We really enjoyed our stay at Alder cottage and cannot wait to return. We had everything we needed and check in with the lovely Mary was super easy. The area is very beautiful and the cottage itself felt like we were the only people for miles. The outdoor table tennis table was an absolute bonus!

We arrived after 9.30 pm, this was no trouble to the fantastic host Mary. Due to our late arrival she very kindly got us some supplies in. Mary gave us directions to various towns and activities we could do with two teenagers. The house was well stocked with all you need. And the table tennis table was a big hit. Thank you for a great stay, we will be back.

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely place. It was spacious and well-equipped. It was particularly delightful to be able to light and open fire for the cooler evenings. Mary's welcome was warm, very helpful and prompt in her communications. Thanks Mary for everything.

This is a lovely property, very spacious with nice grounds. Our host, Mary, was very helpful and easy to deal with. The only surprise was the extra charge for some utilities. We were aware that there was a fee for heater usage which is fairly common here, but there were also charges for hot water and electricity. It should be mentioned in the listing too avoid confusion.

Alder Cottage is a wonderfully quiet cottage with everything your heart desires. A great idyll to relax and escape the stressful everyday life. Maria received us warmly and gave us a list of interesting places to visit in the area. Thanks for the nice stay.

Great property, great host. Mary was kind, helpful and apologetic for the rain! We did however find plenty to do even on the rainy days.
If I made one suggestion, it would be to have a mirror somewhere in the house close to an outlet to make it easier to dry ans style hair.
But really, everything eas wonderful!! Thank you for your hospitality.

Lovely to go off exploring the awesome historical / scenic features that abound and return to a comfortable home base to reinvigorate and prepare for the next adventure.
Mary was a delightful helpful host and our stay of over a week most economical. Local super markets and great pubs made it very easy.

What a great place to stay! Mary, the owner, was so helpful and kind. Quiet, quiet location with a very narrow (!) driveway. The front room was so comfortably decorated, and a great place to read and watch a movie. Kitchen was amply equipped, and bedrooms were spacious. The hot water/heating system was a bit fiddly for us in that we didn't really understand it, but Mary was there to answer all questions. Highly recommend this property if you're looking for some quiet get-away time.

A lovely peaceful break
The property was very clean, well presented, and fully equipped. Mary was very helpful in making us feel at home and provided a replacement BBQ of which we made good use. We drove around the surrounding area extensively and visited Sligo and various places on the Wild Atlantic Way touring route. We were extremely lucky with the weather and had very little rain, so the remote location was not an issue. We enjoyed our trip to The Shed distillery at Drumshanbo and also to Parke Castle on Lough Gill. All the equipment in the property was good quality and functioned well, including the TV and wifi, so we had a very comfortable and most enjoyable stay.

Alder Cottage
We stayed in Marys cottage for 3 nights. The cottage is in a beautiful quiet setting.
It is quite spacious and very well equipped. Our children really enjoyed the table tennis table in the outdoor shed. We brought our bikes and enjoyed cycling on the blue way at Acres Lake in Drumshanbo, we also had a trip to Rosses point beach and took in Glencar waterfall which was amazing! We booked a swim in the outdoor pool in Acres Lake also. We enjoyed or trip to leitrim and our stay in the cottage.

Fantastic holidays
We really enjoyed our holidays at the Alder Cottage. The cottage is very cosy and located in a wonderful nature. You have a good connection to Sligo, different beaches and the hills. We made a day trip to the north ( Wild Atlantic Way). Mary was the best host ever. She took much time to show us the farm. Thanks a lot for the warm welcome.

Stay in the country
The goal of our stay was to be in the Irish countryside away from everything so we could have some great family time and that is exactly what we Got. The accommodations were great and the countryside was beautiful. Mary really out did herself to make us feel at home and we really appreciated it.

Schönes Haus in toller Gegend
Absolut empfehlenswert!

Great Home Base for those who like to hike
House is lovely, very quiet and set well off the road. Looks just like the pictures. Host came to nearby town to guide us in the first time, then we set the GPS in the car and found it was easy access to a decent grocery store and the roads to all the hiking we wanted. We cooked our own meals, but the host provides you with a listing of good places to eat in the area as well as a useful collection of things to do organized by topic. This is a place to get away from it all. Highly recommend. US travelers take note - heat and electricity charges are additional (I understand this is common in EU) but VERY REASONABLE. The process is transparent and the house is a great value for the money. Hope the host will have us back!

Lovely Country Hideaway
My family and I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home nestled around magnificent trees and beautiful Irish countryside this Christmas. Mary is a very gracious host and our every need was met, The house itself is charming, with a lovely fire space both in the living room and dining area.It was spacious for a family of 5, very clean, with all the facilities you would need but also really comfortable and relaxing. We found ourselves cuddled up in the sitting room at night feeling so grateful that we had such a lovely home to stay in while we were in Ireland. The location was ideal for us being only 20 minutes to Sligo, 5 minutes to Manorhamilton, and 40 minutes to Bundoran. We were able to visit Rosses Point beach, Parks Castle, W. B. Yeats grave, and many other numerous outdoor attractions within those times. All my family agree we would love to stay here again and especially would love to enjoy the home in the Summer.

Hier kommen wir wieder her

Rural retreat
I was aware of the remoteness of the cottage but the directions (in French) were not of great help. After driving around for some time Mary met us and guided us in to our delight.
The cottage is a country gem and the area has plenty for everyone. Apart from the cold (which can be resolved through a roaring open fire) we had an awesome week in a lovely setting. Everyone was so friendly and we were met by a bubbly host who started our week with some free range eggs and home made fruit jam, along with a nice posey of flowers. Mary also was happy to provide as much wood as we required for the fire.
There is plenty of help with activities etc from literature at the cottage. Many thanks for ensuring that our anniversary holiday (and first trip to Ireland) was an enjoyable one. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

We had a wonderful holiday! This is a lovely part of Ireland. The cottage is gorgeous. Mary Luthers was a fantastic host, and a great chef! She supplied organic produce everyday as well as cooked meals. If you like peace, scenery, walks, swims in a lake and great fresh food, this is for you.

Alder cottage was wonderful! Mary was very welcoming and helpful as we arrived. We are a family of four, two adults, one teen and one 20 year old. We had many matches and great laughs with table tennis in the stone shed area. The surroundings are quiet, peaceful and lovely. While it rained the entire time we were here, there was still much to do around the area. Sligo and Lough Gill were our favorites. We loved our stay and would highly recommend this for a nice getaway. No wifi was a bit of an issue with the kids, but we adults were fine to unplug for a few days! Thanks Mary, for your wonderful home and hospitality.

Marvellous holiday!!
Alder Cottage is a spacious and luxurious holiday home in a beautiful and unspoilt environment. Host Mary gave us a warm welcome and provided us with tasteful organic meals. Our two children had a great time playing table tennis in the shed next to the cottage.
There is plenty to do in the North West of Ireland. North Leitrim offers great mountain walks and it is an ideal base from where to make trips to the Donegal and Mayo Coasts and Marble Arch Caves. Our children especially liked the Ulster American Folk Park in Northern Ireland. The recently opened Cavan Burren Park is also a recommandation.

Lovely
We had a lovely stay here - 2 adults and 2 kids (6mths and 3yrs).
The cottage is bright, clean, tastefully modernised, and very very quiet. Good blackout curtains in both rooms for difficult sleepers!
Location is great - very good supermarket 5-10 mins drive away, Sligo 20-25 minutes (I think!), Mullaghmore 35-40 mins with a nice beach and a great seafood lunch at Eithna's by the Sea.
Property owner lives locally and is very helpful (and makes beautiful Gooseberry and Elderflower jam on her farm :).
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get away for some peace and quiet. (note: no WiFi / internet at the time of writing, but this suited us fine as we wanted to unplug for a week!)

Classy home and hosts!!
Beautiful property & home. My wife and three daughters had a splendid time relaxing and enjoying this rural property. The home was immaculate and very comfortable for our family of 5. The owners were accommodating and always available with suggestions for local sights and activities.
We completely enjoyed our nearly month long stay. The home is rural but has great access to Sligo and surrounding communities. There are castles, oceans, rivers, mountains, fine dining, live music, and even professional soccer games all within a 15 min drive.
I can't emphasize enough how clean, well prepared, and well maintained this property is kept. We couldn't believe with all the modern amenities the home offered it was the same age as our home state of Texas (est 1845!!).
Many thanks to our host Mary and her attention to detail. Our family completely enjoyed the optional canning lessons she taught and tours of her fabulous garden.
I highly recommend this property, especially for those with families looking to explore Ireland and those looking for the best Ireland has to offer.
