The apartment is unforgettable and the photos hardly do it justice. The location is unbeatable: you are a couple of minutes' walk from the pedestrianised shopping area and overlooking the river. The living room has stunning views both of the chateau and of the Loire; the bedrooms have a wonderful view of the river. But at least as impressive as the location is the interior itself. The apartment includes an incredible selection of sculptures, tapestries and furniture from the 15th century onwards (some possibly earlier!) which give it a unique ambience. It is comfortably furnished with lots of nooks and crannies for sitting and reading and enjoying the view. The apartment is a duplex, occupying the top two floors (3rd and 4th) of the building. Three of the bedrooms (including the beautiful master bedroom) are on the lower floor, and the upper floor houses two more bedrooms, the living area and a small kitchen. There's a slightly steep staircase between floors, and also (a godsend for us) a lift (the lift entrance on the 4th floor is a private one within the apartment, but on the 3rd floor, the lift entrance is on the landing outside the apartment). With the incredible artwork and the staircase, I might think twice if we had very young children, but our 12-year-olds loved the apartment (as did we) and are already talking about returning next year (as are we). There is short-term (paid) public parking directly outside the apartment, and free parking a bit further away, but if you walk round the corner to the Police Municipale office, €30 gets you a parking pass for the current calendar month allowing you to park in any paid public parking in the city. Monsieur Gros was a very solicitous host only a phone call away, sorting out a small problem with the lock on the building's main door very quickly, and Madame Charles was enthusiastic and helpful in welcoming us to the apartment and in seeing us off. All in all, we couldn't recommend this apartment highly enough. We loved Saumur and plan to return next year, and we certainly plan to return to this apartment.

This is the most amazing apartment right in the historic centre of Saumur. The views from the property are breath-taking: the magnificent Castle, the imposing St.Peter's Church, Loire River the spires of Saumur, the Bridge - all these you can see through the windows!. The flat itself is enormous - it occupies the entire attic space of a 19th c. house, parts of which date from 17th century. The main eating/sitting area under the eaves is vast and spacious, hung with ancient tapestries. Some furniture dates from 17th century! This apartment will appeal to artistic, creative and historically-minded types. It's full of antique furniture and interesting historic objects. It has unprecedented views over the historic centre. But don't expect sterileness and smooth-rolling mechanisms of the Ikea furniture, for there is none! :-) Instead, you will find the ancient sculptures of Saints and Madonnas in the bedrooms, bronze horses (the homage to Saumur's equestrian heritage), antique oak chests, wooden masks, collection of bronze keys and other curiosities, and lots of books on Saumur history. It's an absolutely fascinating place to stay. But it IS a historic apartment, with creaking floors and old-fashioned key-locks, - so if you are into modern minimalism and card-reading locks - the apartment is not for you! :-)) For us (an artist and an architect), it was absolute delight and perfection! :-) Many thanks to the Owner, Gilles, who responded to every query and request instantly and was very helpful with recommendations for the local restaurants. Try Bistrot de la Place and Le Pot de Lapin! The location of the flat is so great, that you can be in the centre of operation in about 2-3 minutes. Re: Covid 19. I am on the Shielded List for medical reasons and had to be extremely careful. I must say, I was impressed that ALL waiters wear masks at all times - inside and outside; and (as per today - August 2020) you must wear a mask inside of any public place like a shop, a restaurant or a historic Chateau. But if you are sitting outside, it's up to you. Covid19 is an air-born disease, so the biggest danger is inside of the crowded poorly-ventilated spaces. If you are sitting at a table outside, the risk is very, very small. There are hand sanitisers everywhere and generally speaking, I think that awareness about Coronavirus is very high. So I felt safe there. On the whole, it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We'll definitely come again!

A very comfortable apartment with plenty of space for the five of us in our party. The views of the nearby chateau are quite amazing. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept very well. The showers were excellent as was the heating - our visit being in December, the temperature outside rather cold but we were all kept very cosy.

This flat was a great surprise for all of us! It is the best place to stay and enjoy Saumur. You feel there as part of the ambience of this city. The view is inmejorable! You could see the Loire just in front of our bed, and also the castel is visible through other windows. It is located at walking distance to the main places. The flat has all the confort, with many rooms and a toillet for each one. There are many social spaciouses areas to share and all the apartament is beautifully decorated with antiques. The hoster send us a Lady who explained every thing about and chek in was easy as well as the check out. Gilles was in contact all time asking for our confort. The kitchen is well equiped even with dish wacher, since the flat capacity is for 8 to 11, with all the confort for each one. If We come again, we would definetly stay there again.

After answering the door buzzer, she said she’d be down tout de suite, but left us waiting on the street for at least ten minutes, if not longer. However, after that less than smooth beginnng the rest of our visit was very nice.The duplex is huge and three of us girlfriends were quite comfortable. It is an excellent location for exploring the Loire Valley. A fine boulangerie is a few doors down and lots of restaurants are close by. The view from the lounge is indeed of the castle and is lovely at night.This is not an apartment to which I would bring children. Lots of hard, uneven surfaces and beams to knock one’s head on. It would also be difficult to keep curious hands away from the numerous antiques.Parking can be a challenge but the restrictions on the paid lot right outside can be worked around with one’s day trips and outings.I can definitely recommend this for your next visit to the region.

This property provides an authentic European experience, both grand in space and decor. Impressive views, great location. comfortable beds, attentive and gracious owner.

To say Hôtel Particulier is eclectic is an understatement. It is strewn over three floors, littered with 16th and 17th century art and furnishings in an authentic 17th century apartment and blessed with modern conveniences. What a unique and wonderful accommodation. We throughly enjoyed our stay here. The views of the Castle were impressive, however, once visiting the castle, we realized we felt like we were living in a part of the castle ourselves. Truly amazing. There were 4 of us as there was room for many more. Ample space for all. The owner, Gilles, is a fine host and interesting man. I enjoyed our pleasant and useful interactions and felt very welcome in his home. We’ve spent time in the Loire but this was our first time in Saumur. It is very worthwhile and well situated for exploring to the East and the West of Saumur. Saumur has a fabulous farmers market as well as a market hall in addition to the usual boulangerie, boucherie and cave à vins. The Carrefour City can fill-in in a pinch but does not compare with the other shopping options. There is much to like here and what an interesting and fun place to stay to enjoy the Loire.

We stayed at the duplex for 8 days in November 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation. We were two couples so we had lots of space to spread out and have our own space. The furniture is amazing some of it 400 years old. Gilles the owner was very easy to work with and very attentive. I would absolutely recommend this beautiful duplex for 8 to 10 people. There were lots of bathrooms and toilets and the views of the Chateau and Loire River are spectacular. Gilles thank you for your hospitality during our stay.

We really enjoyed this property, as well as Saumur and its surroundings. The house is very well-equipped with plenty of space (5 bedrooms and several sitting rooms) and the furnishings are full of historic character Though there were seven of us, everyone was comfortable and no-one felt cramped.The views are wonderful, overlooking the Loire to the North and the Chateau to the East. The proprietor, Gilles, was very attentive. Though we never met, he made efforts to ensure that any problems we might have had could be fixed. We would certainly go back. So a very enjoyable stay !

Loved the place, nice and roomy with updated bathrooms and very comfortable beds. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and bars. Only downside was squeaky floors and doors that come with an older building. The furnishings were beautiful. I would recommend this property for anyone looking for a comfortable place with lots of room in Saumur.

Beautifully decorated and furnished inside with fantastic views of the chateau, river and rooftops. Very spacious - 5 bedrooms and great location in the centre of the old town but also you were in the countryside within two minute's cycle. Saumur is a lovely town and the area has a great deal to offer. Gilles, the owner, is very friendly and helpful.

What a wonderful base for our adventure in the Loire River Valley! The location was perfect - a short walk to the historic square, countless restaurants and shops, and amazing views of the chateau and river. The apartment is also located in such close proximity to wine caves, chateaux, beautiful small towns, and big cities - we were able to see and do a great deal during our stay. The apartment itself was spacious and comfortable for our party of 8, and was just as it is described and pictured - just lovely. Gil was great to work with and very flexible with some unforeseen travel changes due to flight delays. Fantastic family trip in an idyllic setting!

We loved the property. The 2 floors are very spacious with the common areas full of stunning antiques. It has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The view of the Saumur Chateau is breathtaking. It is in town, so you can walk to resturants, shops, markets, wine caves, museums as well as the chateau. Mr. Gillies was very helpful making sure we had what we needed and very quick and thorough will all communication. We would stay there again if in the area. We had a wonderful 2 weeks.

Our week at this property in Saumur was a wonderfully adventurous time. The apartment was across the street from the Loire river and within walking distance of countless restaurants, shops, tourist office, grocery stores, and open market on Saturday. The elevator reached both the first and second floors making convenient to deliver our groceries because the main kitchen was on the second level. The apartment was quiet and dark when needed. During the day, we opened he shutters and let in lots of light and lovely vistas. My friends and I are planning a return trip next year and I hope to stay here again.

The apartment is perfectly located on the Loire river with views of the river, Chateau and surrounding town. The building is historic so has some quirks you'd expect in an updated apartment - the bathrooms and kitchen are small, but well equipped - and the beautiful furnishings, large living and dining areas and location are unparalleled. The apartment could sleep 10 easily but it was wonderfully roomy for 4 couples. I highly recommend this apartment and would stay again if I go back to Saumur.

We spent 1 month in this apartment with our family for Christmas time and New Year. It is very well located in the heart of Saumur, very convenient for shopping or visiting. Nice view of the chateau and river Loire. Thank you Gilles! We recommend it.

A fantastic house full of interesting and beautiful furniture and ornaments. Adequate kitchen if you want to cook (using fresh ingredients from the nearby shops), superb view of the chateau and river. Great restaurants and shops in the town. Plenty to do in town and surrounding area. We arrived by bike and there's plenty of room to store them out of site and secure (bike shop next door too). Friendly service from the owner.

Superb apartment in the centre of this great town.The space and presentation,for the two of us,was fantastic,we thought the overall style and antiquities on display were better than our visit to the Chateau in Saumur,would we stay again if in the area ?
