The location is great—walkable to everything in town—and it’s surprisingly quiet. The main floor is also great, with a lot of chairs and tables and deck space. The basement was a bit gloomy; it’d be perfect if you had a large party you wanted all together, and maybe all the kids could stay down there, but none of my friends or I wanted to. We instead used the front porch for one of the bedrooms, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable, though the front door didn’t lock. The only other thing we’d change was cleanliness; there was an old hairbrush on the floor when we checked in, hair ties on the floor in another room, and cobwebs on the inside of most windows.

Great location with very close vicinity to all of grand marais. Everything was a short walk away and the view was nice. The house was not great. I am especially not impressed given the price of this rental. Our bed was uncomfortable and the frame was very noisy. The deck and general exterior of the home is in need of a refresh, it looks like it has not been maintained for a long time. There were spider webs everywhere, bird poop and dust on the glass, chipping paint, and the deck is in need of staining. The basement is very musty and the basement bathroom and bedroom were not appealing.

The location of the cottage is wonderful. Waking up and drinking coffee on the deck while watching the boats in the harbor is priceless!! Truly restful!!

We enjoyed this home and it's proximity to downtown Grand Marais. We walked all over town and also drove to the Gunflint Trail and Grand Portage. Comfortable, clean and has a great view.

I was here for funeral services for my partner. A couple of friends came with me and we chose this cabin as it was both beautiful and close to the places we needed to be.
I really enjoyed how large it was the ceilings are so high, the kitchen was very nice all the bedrooms were clean and well put together. We didn't use the fireplace but having the seating area around it inside was just lovely. As well as the deck, we did not grill anything but there was the opportunity to do so on a very nice girl. I very much like the enclosed front porch with a comfortable couches that could alternate as beds. I feel like you could probably put 12 people in this place along with the finished basement with a full bed and two couches.
I did feel like it was too big for us but I know in the advertisement it says you could put about 10 people there and that is accurate.
The only reason I didn't give overall five stars is because of the hot water situation. I don't know if it was just that time or if that's a current thing there but I took the first shower of the trip and after about 10 minutes the water ran cold. So my friends waited till the next day to try their hand at it with similar results. We were okay since they weren't only three of us. But I think it would be difficult if you brought 10 to 12 people up there and your shower went cold after the first person didn't even take a full shower.
Other than that it's secluded, with lovely views all around. I would stay again.

House has lots of great spaces to spread out. We easily had room for 6 of us to eat together and play board games. Incredibly convenient for walking to anything in Grand Marais - we barely used our car. Kitchen was supplied with everything we could need. The basement was set up well for a teenager to have their own space.

Truth in advertising. :) Lake Superior is just outside its front door and coupled with the fact that you can walk to just about everything one does on a vacation -- shopping, eateries, breweries and the famous Lake Superior beaches. The Gunflint trail is just outside of town for a leisurely drive or exploring the backwoods on a guided fishing trip. Like to gamble? It's just 34 miles away in Grand Portage. You name it and it can be done. We had a great stay and will definitely plan a trip to come back soon. Thanks -- Kevin and Lori.

Enjoyed our stay again this year. Close enough to walk to shops and restaurants. Pretty view of the harbor. Responsive to questions and issues.

Good location, clean. Well equipped kitchen. Enjoyed the fireplace.
View was not "panoramic " as blocked a bit by one large tree. Also the furniture and mattresses were quite worn and in need of replacement.
Still had a great time.

Right in the heart of the action in Grand Marais, Stones Throw is a spacious yet cozy spot with a wonderful deck just off a very nicely set up kitchen. Super clean, had everything we needed. View is great too!

We experienced a great weekend at Stone’s Throw at the end of June. The home was comfy and inviting, and spectacular views of the lighthouse and Lake Superior could be seen from the main level of the house. And what great timing for the lilacs to be in full bloom for us to enjoy the back patio that looked out upon the lake!
We had everything that we needed from both a kitchen and bedroom standpoint, though much time was spent either walking around town or hiking/canoeing in the BWCA. If schedules line up, we would love to return here next year for another weekend up north!

We loved Stonesthrow cottage. Everything was neat and clean. Had. Everything needed for our stay. Bedrooms were great, even the basement was a nice area to sleep. It was close for our family to walk to whatever we chose to do. Would definitely stay there again

It would have been helpful for us to have more separate sleeping space for everyone. We made it work. Very convenient for getting to places down town. All & all a fine place

We moved our yearly trip with friends back a month to take in spring. While we were met with snow all weekend we still made the most of our weekend in heaven. The location is amazing and the people are even better. Hungry Hippy, tavern, the shops and amazing candy!

This is a great cabin - so nicely appointed inside, with a great bathroom and bedrooms on the upper floor, and a very well-equipped kitchen. The basement room isn't AS nice, but it's perfectly fine, and provides privacy if someone particularly wants it. It's definitely no problem for someone to sleep down there!
In addition to the house itself, the location is absolutely perfect. Right by town, but not where any noise might bother you, and with a gorgeous view over the water. Check-in was easy and the owner answered a question for us super fast. Stone's Throw is great!

Our stay with 9 people was great! Quick reply from manager with questions/ requests. Plenty of room, the adult boys slept in the 3 season porch, some of the nights they got a little cold but they didn’t mind. My favorite part was the one block from Java Moose.😊
Thanks for a great stay!

We rented 'Stones Throw' cottage for a slow re-entry after a week out in the Boundary Waters. It was exactly what we needed and more. The location of this home is perfect and we were able to walk everywhere in town. We especially loved quick access to morning coffee (Java Moose) and the brewery. The view from the deck cannot be beat. We spent plenty of time enjoying the water views and watching the world go by. The house is perfect and spacious and had everything we needed. Everything was super clean and cozy. The outdoor garden space was lovely and bursting with color! Thank you so much for giving us the perfect place to reflect on our time in the BWCA and enjoy the beautiful town of Grand Marais!

Traveled up here with my mom, grandma, and 3 kids for two night stay. We found the place with no issues. The house was very clean. I knew ahead of time about the basement bedroom and planned accordingly and packed an air mattress which fit perfectly in the living room. Super kid friendly, my son loved the garden. The beds were comfortable. You are walking distance to everything in the town which is very clean and well kept. The view was nothing but amazing. Hope to return again!

Our extended family really loved the coziness of this home and perfect location for accessing all the shops and restaurants! Make sure to say “hi” to neighbor Joan-she’s a delight!

Decoration great. Plenty of dishes Need serrated knives. The grill needs replacement. Very dirty. Plenty of tables. Maybe a sleeper sofa in one of those table areas The 3 bedrooms were a bedroom down very steep steps to get to and to the other bathroom It’s not even another bedroom. It was damp and musty. The coffee cups could be placed lower to where you could reach them. All the appliances were in excellent condition.

This was one of our family's favorite rentals in Grand Marais, and we have come at least once a year for several years. We weren't sure how we'd feel about staying in town instead of on the shore, but it was fantastic! We could hear the waves crashing and see the activity in the harbor while still having all the convenience of walking to everything in town. The house was very clean and really had absolutely everything we needed. Furniture and beds were very comfortable and the property manager was super responsive with any questions we had. The house itself, in combination with the location, make this a very hard property to beat.
The only potential downfall for me is that the third bedroom is in the basement. It's a well appointed basement, with a little living area and a bathroom, but if you're not expecting that arrangement it can be surprising! It wasn't a problem for us but we could see how it could be for others.

A spacious rental in a perfect location. Great view of the harbor, and close to everything in town. It worked wonderfully as a base for North Shore exploration. We loved having room to spread out and really appreciated the nice kitchen, the comfortable beds, and the thoughtfully placed reading lamps. Thanks!

The house was very clean, nicely renovated, has an amazing view of the harbor & is so conveniently located! The beds are comfy. We were bummed the porch wasn’t really an option since it’s a 3 season, but the living room couch was comfy, too. We walked everywhere, when we weren’t sitting on the porch soaking in the view & the sun. Such a great stay!
