Rejuvenating and relaxing. Perfect. We never got out of our lounge clothes because we couldn't bear to leave our oasis. The flowers, the birds, the curious sweet little gechos. The kitchen was well equipped. The lanai was so comfortable--even a hammock for naps. Lovely outdoor shower and the bed was so comfortable. Wifi was excellent, if you need it and tv offered sufficient options if you felt you needed that. Overall, so peaceful and just superb.

Kalia’s property was an absolute dream. My fiancé and I spent a week at the property and loved it. From enjoying coffee on the lanai in the morning breeze to dinner outside watching the sunset. BEAUTIFUL! We loved all of the flowers and gardens surrounding us and admired the birds singing in the morning. Kalia was so kind and helpful. She was quick to respond to questions and available. She has really made a special place unlike any other!

We had a fabulous stay at Kalia’s place! It was so peaceful and relaxing! We loved resting and playing cards on the deck with the beautiful garden and ocean views. Kalia was very easy to reach and super helpful. We loved the outdoor shower and all the beach supplies. It was hard to leave!

This is our second stay at Hale O Pueo and it won't be our last as long as Kalia will have us. We've found over the years that we value above all things a house that offers privacy and an ability to get away from the hustle and bustle. Hale O Pueo offers both. Kalia has created an oasis on the North Kohala coast where you wake to bird song every morning and other than the occasional gecko or rain on the roof there is nothing but quiet at night. No noisy neighbors, no cars, nothing but beautiful peace and quiet. Kalia may reside in the attached hale, but rarely do you see her and you definitely don't hear her. But, she's around and ready to point you in the direction of a great beach or snorkeling spot. We always enjoy visiting with her and are thankful to have such a gracious and kind host next door. The sunset from the lanai is so beautiful that my husband's only requirement while staying at Hale O Pueo is that we're back at the house by sunset so that we can watch it from the lanai with a gin and tonic in hand. (The lime tree gets a lot of use from us while we're there as he enjoys the limes for his gin and tonics and I enjoy the limes for my water.) And then there's the gorgeous outdoor shower which in my eyes may be one of the most luxurious experiences someone from Montana can hope for. The location is perfect as it's fairly close to Hawi, (which we frequently head up to in the mornings for our coffee) close to Kawaihae Junction (shave ice at Anuenue) and the beaches on the Kohala coast. Hale O Pueo is one of our two favorite VRBOs on the island and I'm already looking forward to going back. Thank you Kalia for yet another beautiful stay. I had tears in my eyes as we were driving away because it's such a beautiful and peaceful place to call home for any length of time.

We enjoyed everything about our stay here. The location was perfect, we already miss the wonderful sunsets.

The place was really nice. It was well cleaned and amenities were as mentioned in the listing. The place is accessible with an unpaved road, so try to avoid check-in at the night. As it gets a little confusing. But, the morning view is worth every driving hassle. Hammock was such a nice touch to enjoy the beautiful view. The neighborhood is so secluded, that the door do not have locks. So once again, if you are not too outdoorsy, try to check-in when the sun is up. But overall an amazing stay.

Kalia made everything about our stay so easy and wonderful. She was gracious with her time when we wanted advice on what to see and do and gave us complete privacy at all other times even though she is nearby. The house was clean, well-stocked, and ample for our needs. We especially loved the outdoor shower, the view from the bedroom, and lots of time on the front porch. It's a great location for both sunrises and sunsets. Personally, we loved the location of the house in Kohala as a base for seeing the rest of the island. It's close to Waimea for the roads heading east, close to a bunch of great beaches on the Kona side, and also close to nice hikes near Hawi. Given that this was our first trip to the Big Island and we wanted a broad survey of what the whole island offered, it was a great spot for us. When we come back to the Big Island, we would love to stay with Kalia again.

We wanted to stay somewhere new on the island and focused on the north end. This rental did not disappoint. We spent hours every day on the lovely lanai watching the beautiful view of the ocean, and enjoying the beautiful gardens and animals that make that area their home. The location was wonderful for exploring all parts of the island. We enjoyed early morning snorkeling at nearby beach 69 and hiking Pololu Valley. The farmer's market at Waimea is another gem to enjoy. We stocked up on food and drinks before leaving Kailua Kona and enjoyed cooking our own meals at the rental. The outdoor shower was refreshing and multiple fans were available for our use to keep us cool. This was a wonderful retreat for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the island. Enjoy!

Although the view is indeed beautiful, I was disappointed that the place is a duplex, shared with the owner, as opposed to a "stand alone" house. I felt that I could not play music as I would have liked, and the sound of water running in the pipes was a constant reminder that I was not alone. The owner and her guests were very quiet, but still it was not what I had hoped for.

The cottage was exactly as described. High above Kawaihae with a spectacular view. The kitchen is well equipped. We loved the peace and quiet. It’s very private but our host was nearby. The garden is amazing.

Quiet, peaceful, easy to get to lots of hikes, beaches, restaurants (including one just down the road, and a poke take out also just down the road). But also easy just to sit on the lanai, surrounded by gorgeous plants, enjoying the birds, the view, whale watching, and serenity. Kalia has to be the quietest neighbor on the planet, we forgot she was in the next house over, and she also gave us terrific suggestions not in the travel books. Comfy bed, well-stocked kitchen, good WIFI, luxurious outdoor shower. I'm trying to think of something that would discourage others from renting this piece of paradise, so I could more easily return, but Kalia has thought of everything. We hated to leave.

In fact the house takes its architecture from homes you might see in the desert. We had a storm come in that brought some rain so we heard the area will transform to a beautiful green. That would be amazing to see. Did I mention the stars? Simply amazing star gazing! All in all a great experience.

Our 10-day stay at Hale O Pueo was perfectly flawless! We reserved our stay 6 months in advance and Kalia was always immediately responsive to our questions & concerns about coming to the big island and staying at her property for our honeymoon. This 700 sq ft home has 9-foot ceilings and is much more spacious and beautiful than the VRBO photos illustrate. There are no signs of wear or misuse anywhere; every piece of furniture, kitchenware, walls, floor, doorways, etc., are in perfect condition. The westerly-facing lanai is large and includes 2 comfortable cushioned chairs and side table, as well as 2 more dining chairs and 3 ft diameter dining table, perfect for any meal. We did not use the Weber grill or hammock, but they are there as well. We found no better way than to spend our mornings and evenings than by watching the sunrises and sunsets on the lanai, along with enjoying the beauty of the dessert garden and all the local birds! The outdoor shower is absolutely private and a great was to start your day. If we ever get back to the big island, Hale O Pueo would be the first place I would consider staying; our experience could not have been better. Thank you, Kalia!!

Spacious and an amazing view! We loved our time here

Truthfully, I cannot properly describe our stay at Hale O Pueo. It was by far the most relaxing place we stayed during our three week trip. (We like to bop around the island, as we have found that different parts of the island offer a variety of things to do and see.) We spent far too much time watching and enjoying the geckos on the lanai. We took too many photos of the sunset EVERY night we were there. (because it was always beautiful) We loved the oasis Kalia has created, the birdlife that goes along with it, and in turn, the birdsong. And the outdoor shower. Which in and of itself is reason enough to book, as it's beautiful (it really is!) and so dang relaxing! You're far away from the hustle and bustle of Kona and the resorts, but not too far away to easily grab groceries or something to eat at Kawaihae Junction, Waimea, or the Mauna Lani. And so close to so many great beaches and snorkeling. Yes, Kalia is right next door, but she is completely unobtrusive, has so much knowledge of the island and is so kind, we loved having her there. We will without doubt be back to Kalia's, as it was perfect for us and the way we travel. It was peaceful, quiet, we were surrounded by nature, and it was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Mahalo Kalia for opening your home to people who can come and enjoy your little spot of heaven on the Big Island.

Love this place. It is a drive, but close to many beaches. Very peaceful, relaxing. So many thoughtful touches,from the blenders. To ice chests, all things beach related. Very comfortable bed, and what an amazing view. Very eco friendly. Loved it and we will be back.
