Initially, we were a bit nervous about not being Oceanside, but we quickly realized it was the perfect mix of ocean and sound waters! This place has everything you could ever dream of—an amazing kitchen, spacious and comfy bedrooms, a fun game room, and an incredible outdoor living space! Everything, from the pool to the hot tub to the living spaces, was sparkling clean. The canal location was a bonus for fishing, crabbing, and kayaking. There’s something for everyone to enjoy! The ocean is just a hop, skip, and jump away! We loved the privacy and seclusion of this spot. A definite 10/10 from the Aldrich family! Ron and Marianne are the sweetest and super responsive! We’ve been coming to OBX for years, and this house is hands down our favorite. We can’t wait to book again!

We had a wonderful vacation at Serene Dream with our family - kids and grandchildren. The grandchildren were ages 9-19. The house was great. It was a lovely home and had something for everyone from the well appointed kitchen, to the game room for the kids, to the pool for all. The parking passes to the private parking for those who wanted to go to the beach were a life saver to keep from having to hunt for and pay for parking. A couple of the older kids rode bikes one day that were there in the garage. We cooked on the grill every day. The kids and adults alike enjoyed the fishing and crabbing from the backyard. You really didn't have to leave the house if you didn't want, but if you did, everything was right there nearby and easy to get to. However, you would never know it by the way the house was tucked away in the cul-de-sac and trees on the water and was so peaceful. The owners were so nice and easy to get along with. We will definitely plan on staying here again.

House, amenities and grounds were all excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There was always something to do both inside and outside. Had a blast discovering what the OBX are about from the historic end to the beach end. Comforting knowing you had the house to come back to and continue the day with fishing, crabbing or inside game room. The house was stocked with anything and everything you could possibly need. The hosts were very friendly and responsive when needed. All and all a great time. Peaceful and relaxing

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our spring break stay at this VRBO location. The convenient location made it easy to go to the beach, the store, and wonderful restaurants. We were traveling with two 12 year old boys and needed an area where they could ride their bikes unsupervised without the worry of dangerous traffic. The boys found nearby parks and trails leading to the beach plus many areas to safety ride their bikes.The property had basketball, large yard to pass ball, a recreation room and the canal to fish, so the family had plenty to do even when it rained. The location was close to the unique area of the Duck shopping center (always a favorite pastime.)
The home was so well laid out with plenty of room for my husband and daughter to work. Each bedroom had access to their own bathrooms and televisions. We enjoyed the well equipped kitchen and plenty of eating spaces. The hot tub was conveniently located off of the great room. Our hosts were excellent to work with and provided answers to all of our questions! We all were very delighted with our stay!

Our family consisted of nine - one 4 year old great-granddaughter; two grandsons and their wives; our daughter and her husband; and ourselves (seniors). Ron, the owner, was exceptional to work with... kind, generous, helpful, answered all questions, and most of all, a very caring man. It had been quite a few years since we'd been to OBX so this visit/stay was special. And the weather for this time of year was perfect! I highly recommend this property for family and friends to gather for any occasion... wonderful location!

We loved everything about this property. The house is gorgeous with everything you would need. Trees on the sides and front give it a very private feel and is on a cul-de-sac so there is virtually no traffic. The back yard is right on the canal and provides a very peaceful setting and view. Shopping for groceries and a Walmart is very convenient at less than a mile away. The owner of the property was great to deal with and contacted us to make sure that everything was satisfactory. We would definitely choose here again on our next trip to the Outer Banks.

I spoke to Ron prior to leaving for our vacation to his property. He never mentioned anything about the air conditioning unit not working properly on the second floor. He called to tell me there was a gift certificate for cookies and we would have to pay a few dollars because they increased their prices. His daughter was at the house and she used one and had to pay. He was upset that the cookie company was charging us. He should have informed us about the air conditioner when he called. As posted in the previous review on September 6,2023, the air conditioning was not functioning on the second floor. We arrived on September 9, and still not working.
Ron offered to reimburse us for fans and inflatable mattresses. There were 3 fans at the house when we arrived. His daughter was there the week before we arrived. The nighttime temperatures were cooler than our week. The upstairs nighttime temperature was 83. We carried mattresses downstairs so everyone could sleep where it was comfortable. Our granddaughter slept in the primary closet. Our son slept in the dining room.
It is a beautiful home at a great location. We enjoyed the pool and the beach not far from the homeWe had a wonderful time and made the best of the situation. Ron did refund us an additional $100.00 stating it was what he would have reimbursed us for an inflatable mattress. We paid for five bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms and a huge game room. We could not use two bedrooms, one bathroom and the game room.

The House advertised on VRBO as 5 Bedrooms, 5 baths etc. Only 3 Bedrooms and 4 Baths were were inhabitable, the upstairs Cooling was inoperable. the Temperature upstairs was around 92f during the day then around 85f during the night. Needless to say you cant sleep in that comfortably. I will use other means on the next Family Trip.

This was our second time staying at Serene Dream, and it did not disappoint. There is so much to love about this place. The location is perfect - close to a couple of grocery stores. The house is quiet and private. And Ron is the perfect host. Serene Dream is truly a hidden gem of Southern Shores!

We had a great time, and everything about the home was just as expected. Perfect home for fishing, crabbing, kayaking, swimming in the pool, going to the beach, or staying home and cooking and relaxing. The home itself seems so secluded, but it is also conveniently located close to shopping areas. The owner is fantastic.

Lovely one story home, with handicap accommodations (ramp and bathroom, extra-wide doors). Best equipped kitchen we have ever encountered - absolutely EVERYTHING you might need! Easy access to a nice beach, lots of walking trails. We paddled on the canal - which is currently more fresh water than salty. Owner obviously cares for the home and the comfort of the renters.

We, as a family have vacationed in the outer banks for the past several years. This house seemed to be the favorite of everyone. Pool was warm, even in late September. Hot tub was wonderful. Fishing and kayaking in the canal was awesome. My wife raved of the fully stocked kitchen. And she absolutely loved everything on the ground floor, no stair climbing this year. Fun for everyone. Ron is an excellent host, called to check on us and was ahead of the curve, fixing the upstairs air before it was even a problem. Love, love, love it!!!!

The property was fantastic. It had the most supplied kitchen we have ever stayed in. Anything you needed to cook was there. The rest of the house was great also. Any movie you wanted to watch, there were enough tv's to accommodate everyone. Best of all there was a pool for the kids to use everyday we were there. It was a wonderful week!! Thank you Ron.

It was just me and my husband but we needed a handicapped accessible house and this house was wonderful! We also wanted to have our dog with us which was fantastic. The handicapped bathroom is wonderful! We kayaked several times down the canal into the sound and the canal was much more interesting and beautiful than I expected. Gorgeous homes and landscaping and lots and lots of boats on boat lifts. The pool is warmed somehow and even though it was September the water was 85 - 90 everyday. We went to Andy Griffith's favorite restaurant Basnights (he lived in Manteo). We had to wait to be seated for 15 minutes even at 5 PM. But it was worth it! Excellent seafood and a water view. The owner Ron answered questions thoroughly and immediately and was extremely nice.

We just got back from our vacation and I can't say enough good things about this property. I loved that this place was so secluded and private. We utilized the pool every day and the dogs really enjoyed the big back yard. The kids loved all the games that were available to play. The house was very spacious and set up perfectly for our family! Everyone had a great time and we have already said that it will be our new go to place for vacations in the OBX. The owner, Ron. was very friendly and easy to communicate with. I can't recommend this property enough! You won't be disappointed!

We had a great time for our first ever trip to the Outer Banks. We couldn’t of picked a better rental. The beach house is beautiful, the location is so nice and quiet, and really kid friendly. The owner was always so easy to get ahold of and very caring. Nice walk or short drive to the beach. We felt very safe in this neighborhood. The house is very well taken care of, the pool is wonderful, and it pretty much has anything you could ever need. Thank you Ron for sharing your home with us and hopefully we will be back soon!!

We enjoyed the property and the house is very comfortable and larger than we had anticipated. The location is convenient and in a quiet cul de sac. I'll start with the good: We had a truly lovely stay at this house. My family and I hoped to make this an annual visit.
While there, we broke a piece of glass covering the kitchen table, called the owner to explain and apologize, and were thankful we'd purchased the extra insurance that covers damages.
BUT THEN the insanity began after we checked out ... The owner accused us of leaving the house "in a shambles." According to the report from his housecleaner, multiple surfaces were covered in vomit, we left bags that appeared to have drugs in them (supposedly they considered calling the police), the doors were wide open, every entrance was soaked in dog urine, four towels were destroyed, and on and on. I asked if the house could have been broken into, as that's the only explanation that made any sense. According to the owner, the housecleaner arrived right after we left.
For days, we received messages, blurry pictures of our supposed infractions (apparently any better photos weren't available because the housecleaner's SIM card malfunctioned. Very convenient timing, I must say.). After being forwarded the exorbitant cleaning bill, I contacted VRBO unsure what to do or how to get our security deposit back.
WELL ... It turns out that VRBO is the one who refunds a security deposit when you have the extra insurance, not the homeowner. Even if we'd left the house in a shambles -- which we did not -- the insurance would have covered the owner's expenses. Thus, I'll let you decide what this scenario looks like.
It's such a shame, because we loved the house and purposefully let some things go (swing by the canal was broken, outdoor furniture was stacked in the garage so we had to lug it outside if we wanted to use it, bikes were broken, outdoor shower was broken, etc.) because we were enjoying the relaxing environment and didn't want to be annoying renters.

Serene Dream was a perfect location to relax and enjoy the Outer Banks. The house had everything we needed, was in a quiet, relaxing neighborhood with nice canal views, and just minutes from the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a more gracious and informative host, either.

The name of this vacation rental saya it all. You could not have asked for better. Anything and everything you may need for your vacation was already thougjt of and provided for you! This is a quiet, well kept, beautiful property with all the amenities. Fishing and kayaking in the backyard.....what more could you ask for?? Absolutely nothing. We will be back time and time again!!

This house is beautiful and in a nice shaded neighborhood on a canal. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool.. Lots of great attractions nearby. Beach access was a 5 minute drive. We saw deer while biking through the neighborhood. The marina was conveniently located. Nicely stocked kitchen. Ron was very communicative and helpful. Would definitely recommend this house for a family. I wish we could've stayed 2 weeks instead of just 1!

We had a wonderful time at the serene dream property. It was perfect for our trip. We traveled with another family. My family of 4 with our friends (family of 7) fit perfectly and loved this beautiful property! Ron was great to work with and the property was tucked away in a nice private neighborhood but still nice and close to the beach! You will love your stay here! Our kids enjoyed the crabbing and fishing in the canal along with the pool and hot tub. They loved the game room in the evening hours too! You will enjoy it just like we did!

I can not say enough about how much fun we had. Ron was excellent with communication and genuinely cared about our stay and that everything was perfect. We didn’t get to enjoy the pool as much as I would have liked. It was too cold most days but that’s Mother Nature and can not be controlled. We still had plenty to do and it was a much needed relaxing week. Thanks Ron for all your time and answering all my questions. Would recommend this place to anyone and everyone

Very quiet neighborhood. We spent much of our time on the deck - large backyard area. Pool, hot tub, fishing the canal, watching the dog play, or just sitting and relaxing with morning coffee. The beach, grocery stores, shops and many good restaurants within a 10 min drive. Compared to other homes we have stayed at in Outer Banks this one is at the top of the list. We will stay here again!
