We had a large group and the location was very accommodating and had a lot of great spaces for hanging out and gathering

Rustic housing with fantastic location. Our family needed to be together in a mountain setting. This place was just what we needed. Lodge itself needs some definite attention.

Save your money & book elsewhere. Recently had my intimate wedding at this property, 25 guests (21 "stayed"). We were excited for our stay, an incredible weekend celebrating with friends & family at a rustic cabin in the mountains. But we experienced the opposite of incredible. This property is not on the lake, nor does it even have access to the lake, which the owner told us in a phone call. The check-in process isn't one, you call the property owner from a landline which we attempted several times without answer leaving us without phone service (as expected) & without wifi because there is absolutely no other info provided. The rooms were disgusting. There were used bars of soap in the showers & on the sinks in every bathroom with hair everywhere. The sheets were dirty, strands of hair between them & other evidence that people had slept in those sheets. It seemed that the kitchen refrigerator hadn't been wiped down in years. The place was straight up nasty. The owner then showed up in the basement, unannounced. We told him nothing had been cleaned, showed him even. He said, "Just write everything down & I will be back tomorrow." So we did all of the laundry ourselves. Spent our first evening washing 14 sets of sheets & 20+ sets of towels, which are mostly stained beyond repair. Both hottubs weren't working, so not sure what the club fee paid for. When it comes to the actual sleeping arrangements, don't be fooled by the number it says can sleep in beds, because they aren't beds. They are 3 inch sleeping mats stacked 6 high on top of each other. So this listing actually sleeps only 14 in beds. We attempted to shower, but it leaked through to the basement, making the upstairs bathrooms unusable. The temperature in the bathrooms read 97 degrees, which heated the attached bedrooms like saunas. The "cleaners" showed up at one point and stated, "I don't know how to do laundry." The amenities listed are not accurate (ie. no canoes) and the wifi cannot support the guest count. You can't shut the living room screen door properly which let mice & chipmunks inside. The cleaners & owner then showed up 2 hrs prior to checkout & wouldn't respect a request to leave until checkout time. The owner seems to be worried about losing his business license due to noise complaints than the experience of his guests. At one point he said, "Well life isn't always perfect and this isn't the Ritz. We don't put mints on your pillows."
Will not recommend this place.

Overall, the location and views from the property are absolutely serene and stunning. We appreciated having so much space available to us as we were a party of 22 celebrating 3 birthdays. Vince, the owner, was also very communicative in giving details about the property.
While we enjoyed the weekend as a whole, I wanted to call out a few problems with our stay. First, the lodge was dirty as other reviewers mentioned. This is not to comment on the rustic decor which we were aware of and enjoyed - but everything needed a thorough cleaning (including the feces/dead flies we found in the club room downstairs).
Second, the wifi was not working and there wasn't any urgency in trying to fix it. I myself tried to restart the router with the owner present to no avail. We would have appreciated more effort to repair the internet as we were not expecting to be without it - especially without cell phone service in the area. One of our guests had to drive 40 minutes to Carbondale to take an online exam after initially being under the impression that he would be able to take his exam using the Lodge's wifi. Being unplugged was fine - wifi just shouldn't be listed as an amenity.
Third, a ceiling leak in the downstairs bathroom prevented us from using the top 3 bathroom showers. With 22 guests in attendance, this is unacceptable. The owner told us that it is very hard to get a plumber out to the location; however, he was aware of the leak prior to our arrival and expressed no urgency again to resolve this issue.
Lastly, a Vrbo rental is supposed to be a "home away from home". We did not feel this way as the owner made unexpected visits throughout our stay. We were aware of the hot tub checks in the mornings; however, there was one instance where the owner entered without permission to remind us of the noise ordinance that was not yet in effect. We were aware of this and did not appreciate the intrusion of privacy. When he came to check the shower leak, he took one of our snacks and a beer outside on the deck without permission. This is completely unprofessional.
Like I mentioned, the owner is a nice guy. However, I think the concept of Vrbo is not represented well here. I would highly suggest visiting his website for the lodge to ensure you are his ideal guest (not mentioned in the description).
I've also seen some defensive responses in prior reviews - please be aware we are simply explaining our experience in this business transaction.

Our group arrived in Marble during a once-in-a-decade snowstorm. Vince was there late on Friday night plowing the roads of Marble for us. Because the driveway was so steep and covered in about a foot of snow, he offered to shuttle all 20 of our guests and our luggage up to the house in his own truck. He went above and beyond to make sure we all got in the house safely. His communication beforehand was very helpful as well.
This is absolutely a rustic stay; the property and views are incredible, but you should know going in this is an older property with not many new updates. We knew this beforehand and therefore did not have any false expectations, and as such we had a wonderful time!! Thank you, Vince! We will be back!

Vince was very patient with us as we wanted a wedding in the mountains with about 60 guests arriving on the day of. He showed us where everyone could park, how the duel housing set up works, and made sure to be available and helpful during the duration of our stay. The wedding went well, the guests all had a blast and kept asking us how we found such an amazing spot, and the couple was happy throughout. We plan on coming back over the years with friends and family as the retreat began to feel more like home over the few days that we were there. We are very thankful we were able to use the property and look forward to our next stay!

Vince was very helpful in prepping for our visit, answering calls and providing plenty of info to be ready. The home is huge, lots of rooms and a great lot to play outside. As other reviews have said, it is dated and needs a very deep clean but being it is so remote, you expect this when you book. Our family is casual and wasn't too fussed by the dust, cobwebs, etc. If you have a big family and need a place where people can just relax in a gorgeous town, this is it. If you are used to the Hilton, you'll want to look elsewhere.

We wanted to stay close to home and wanted a place big enough to host 25 friends and family for the weekend. I know the location would be ideal for us with wanting to do a day trip up to the Crystal Mill, paddleboard on Beaver lake and order take out from our favorite Slow Grooving BBQ. Staff was very friendly, the lodge is older and not in the best condition, but beds were clean and we had a wonderful weekend in the slow pace, mountain community of Marble!

This property is nothing like it is advertised, except for the view. We rented the lodge and chalet for a family gathering. When I booked the owner said this was a rustic, lived in lodge and chalet. This was way beyond rustic, it was filthy! The house was dirty with dust and cobwebs everywhere. We found mouse turds in all the rooms. Later we found a dead mouse in the dog's water dish and saw mice scurrying nightly. My grand-daughter saw a rat in the chalet! None of the outside doors would shut and we found the downstairs french doors wide open when we arrived.
The whirlpool shown in the property description does not work, that is a junk room. A hot tub was added, but every time we ran it the breakers flipped. The lights flickered and dimmed, light switch plate was burning hot to the touch. No smoke alarms, we did find fire extinguishers, but they are out of date (1988).
Many of the outlets did not have face covers and the wires were exposed, registers covers were missing.
All the showers and tubs had what looked like black mold in the seams.
The grill didn't work properly and caught on fire at one point. The property is advertised to have canoes for use, when asked we were told the park rangers had picked them up and they couldn't get them back.
Staff was in the house unannounced frequently.
Vrbo recommends to talk to the owner with any complaints. We tried. The owner was very rude and repeatedly stated "I don't want to talk to you." He finally said make a list and give it to the cleaning staff.
I would not recommend this property, it is filthy and a safety hazard.

Gorgeous rustic mountain property. We had a very intimate wedding and could not have asked for a better location. The property is a great size to accommodate guests, and the stunning views are unbeatable.

A group of 20 of my friends and family members met in Marble to celebrate New Year's Eve. We wanted a cozy, rustic cabin getaway with enough space for our large group, and that's exactly what we got. The mountain views surrounding made the 4 hour drive after our flight to Denver worth it.
There was an issue with the hot tub a few days before our trip and since it had been a big factor in our decision to book, Vince went way out of his way (drove to Denver and back to pick up the needed piece) to get it fixed prior to our trip - thanks for that. We really enjoyed it.
We hope to return to Marble Lodge one day.

The property manager and location are fantastic. The views and access to Beaver lake are the best in Marble. This property has incredible potential and character. The kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils and pots you would need to prepare meals. However, the home and property are lacking in maintenance and cleanliness. All carpets desperately need to be replaced and a thorough cleaning and decluttering need to happen for guests to feel comfortable. All mattresses need to be replaced in the main house and some in the guest house as well. Also, number of persons this property can sleep is misrepresented. It sleeps 20/22 in beds depending on what you count as beds(there are some smaller than twin beds in the guest house and floor pads covered with couch covers)...the rest sleep on provided camping gear on the floor. If you have a youth group or adolescents this is a great place for you, if you have a toddler still toddling or crawling you will want to avoid due to the floors. If you are a person that needs things to be clean to feel comfortable this is not the place for you.

Had a large family (35) reunion. There was plenty of space for adults and kids. Plenty of things to do, gorgeous mountain view for relaxing on the deck, large meeting room for group games and gatherings. Had a great time.

The lodge was an ideal location to hold my bachelorette party. We loved utilizing the outdoor spaces, the views, and it was spacious enough for us to spread out.

I wanted to give my family and new wed sister and brother in law a vacation surprise and came across the property. The pictures/video uploaded on site looks amazing and so i booked the property. Our first night/arrival was a night mare. We got to the town around 6:30 pm and tried to look for the house, it took us an hour to find the house because this house on very higher elevation and the driveway to house is very very very steep and was totally snowed in. You do not get any cellphone reception in the area so i wasn't able to call the host. One of our car got stuck in effort to find house and when finally we found the house, our second car was not able to go up the driveway due to the sleet. we had kids in our group and all of use had to drag our suitcases in dark and walk up to the house. When i reached to the house, i called owner, his staff to assist us with stuck car and no one answered. I left owner voice messages and returned my call next morning.
I wish i could post pictures here, the house is very dusty, furniture is old and have so many stains especially chairs in game room and carpet is very old/stains. The lighting is very low in the house main floor. The kitchen is good, mix of old and new appliances with plenty of dishes so that was the the good part.
The staff was not helpful upon our exit. I requested staff member at 10:00am for help taking our luggage to one of the car parked down because of driveway elevation could not drive up and she said she doesn't have time because she needs to get house ready for next guest. It hardly takes 5 minutes. We had to drag suitcases again down the hill. We paid a good amount for main house which i think was very high and we at least deserved a little help with our luggage at exit. The house has a slate says don't mind the dust which is to bring country look to the cabin however, I am allergic to dust. I got sick very first day so if you are allergic to dust, you might want to stay away. Over all it was ok to stay there and we made it work for us but I wish i had idea about very steep/elevated driveway which was not shown in pictures/video, i would've stayed away from this property. It was not convenient to walk up and down with kids and parents every time if your cars get stuck. Also know the furniture/towels and some bedding in house are very old and it would be great if the owner can get stains removed from chairs, get some dusting done in rooms and fix lighting where lamps are not working.

We loved our stay at the lodge! Very comfortable accommodations and plenty of room for a large group. The hot tub is amazing, as was our host and the staff.

Was a great stay to get away. No cell service but a land line was available. No luxury TV or cable, built fires, took walks, read a book, put together a puzzle, wife and I spent quality time together. Beautiful days and never seen so many stars. Accommodations where comfortable. I was a little nervous using some of the older appliances but all worked well. The cabin was very well insulated and even though there was snow everywhere we were snug and warm. My only recommendation was to add smoke alarms for safety even though not required by law. I would suggest that all previous parties have to remove their food when they leave. There was enough food (Can, bagged, bottled) left over if you had a snow in emergency you could survive, but that made it a little too lived in for my taste. We will be back because it was a healthy escape from the suburbs. Vince, Ana and Rob where very helpful, no hassle experience. I'm praying for you Rob to make a recovery.

I want to start by saying Marble is a wonderful little town, and the Beaver Lake Retreat has probably the best setting and location out of all the properties surrounding Beaver Lake. Vince, your host, is very gracious and accommodating.
There are, however, a few very simple but MUCH needed updates this property needs to make guests more comfortable during their stay. The first, and most important, is this lodge needs a very thorough deep cleaning. The carpet throughout is original (from when, I don't know), which has the effect of retaining years of odor. The odor is the first thing you notice when you walk in, which is a shame because the lodge itself has so much character. The second much needed update is new beds. We were in two different rooms, one in the main lodge, and one in the newer guest house addition. All 3 beds had seen their useful lives peak years ago. The box spring on our son's bed was broken, so half of the queen bed was unusable and actually forced him to sleep across two different levels of mattress. Needless to say, that didn't help his back the next day, as we had a full day of hiking and canoeing planned. The bathroom in the upstairs guest house had a bathtub and shower nozzle, but no shower curtain which made it impossible to shower without assistance from someone else, or spraying water everywhere.
This property is a time capsule from the 70's. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but even time capsules can be CLEAN.
It is not my intention to leave a negative review that will impact this wonderful little property in an adverse way. I just hope the host will take this opportunity to make some much needed updates so the retreat can be enjoyed by more people for years to come.

Our party of 2 adults & 3 teenagers loved the retreat. The buildings are rustic, full of character, and make you feel at home and comfortable. It is not like staying at a Hilton – there is no room service, nor claim of pampering luxury. it’s like staying at your cool uncle’s wilderness cabin home. It puts you right where you want to be: at the edge of the wilderness, in a marvelous little town at the end of the paved road.
We brought our own food (there is no grocery in Marble - plan ahead), which we prepared in the large, well-equipped, shared kitchen, and ate in the long dining room which overlooks Beaver Lake and the end of Marble’s paved road. There are many decks to sit on and admire the view – day or night – the starry sky was the clearest I’ve ever seen. The large hot tub was a favorite place to be.
We stayed in the large cabin (not the main house), which features a single large ground-floor room with 2 double beds and an assortment of single beds attached to the walls. (There is a stack of mattresses that can spread out for larger groups), and two bathrooms. Also in the room was a kitchenette – we used the refrigerator, but did our cooking and dining in the main building.
I had visited Beaver Lake Retreat in 2006 after a hard, all-day mountain bike ride (Lead King Basin loop), when we happened to meet the owner in town. He gave us a tour of the retreat, and we talked our way into using the hot tub. We soaked in the steaming tub and watched the stars through the glass ceiling. I vowed that I would return for a real stay with my family. We got our chance in late summer 2015. It was the final highlight of our Badlands / Devils Tower / Big Horn / Yellowstone / Tetons / Colorado vacation. If I am ever lucky enough to get to Marble again, I will be staying at Beaver Lake Retreat.

We were a party of 8 adults a d 6 young girls. Everyone in our party loved this lodge. It has several large decks . If someone desired quiet time ., easily accommodated. Or when we were all together very comfortable. The fire pit was popular both nights we were there.
The large kitchen island was the gathering place. It provides an extensive supply of pots and pans and dishes. 2 large refrigerators were super. All the kids loved the kayaks provide , and safety equipment.
For the adults, we enjoyed the girls feeling very safe in their own place. Although, there are bedrooms upstairs, they all slept together on the first floor.
The owner even returned a lost item of clothes to me free of cost !!
I would DEFINITELY return and recommend.

My husband and I had never stayed at Beaver Lake Retreat before. I knew Marble was beautiful but didn't know for sure what to expect at the retreat. We were totally blown away by how nice this was. As one of the other reviewers mentioned we had the entire place to ourselves. The views from our room were amazing. We had a balcony on 2 sides -- one side overlooking the lake. We had this really cute window seat with big windows looking out on the side that didn't have a balcony. We watched a beautiful lightning storm from that window one night. The hot tub is large and in a room surrounded by windows. There is a fire pit outside for a romantic evening. We had to pinch ourselves that we weren't dreaming that we had all of this for the price. The stay was very relaxing as Marble is a pretty quiet town which is exactly what we wanted. We'll be back!

Marble is by far, one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado I have ever visited. What really made this visit perfect were the accommodations at Beaver Lake Retreat and the gracious hospitality of the owner. It is hard to describe this experience in words, but if you are looking for tranquility and a slice of solitude, look no farther. The views are unequaled and the lodgings are warm and comfortable. The town locals will generously point out options for hikes, four wheel drives, and photo opportunities. If this isn’t the perfect get away, you won’t find it elsewhere! You can truly feel at home when you are away from home. I highly recommend the Beaver Lake Retreat!

It was pretty bad.. House is old and dirty. Big cabin has only one bedroom and owner tried to put 15 people in that small old and smelly building full of rats (couldn't sleep because of the noise from cabinets and found bitten soap with clear teeth marks under the chair by the bed). Owner was rude.
Most people didn't sleep in 'beds' - these were mattresses on the floor.

What a fantastic time of year to visit this beautiful lodge. Two of us had the entire place to ourselves which was truly a treat! The views from every nook of the lodge were outstanding and the colors of the trees changing outside were absolutely phenomenal. I will definitely be returning for another trip. The owner and caretaker were extremely friendly and accommodating and all the amenities of the lodge were great! My only regret is that we didn't get a chance to take the canoe out on the lake. Highly recommend this for couples and/or big parties as there is more than enough space to house a large family reunion or business retreat. Thanks Vince!!
