Über diese hausUnterkunft
Kailua Beachside, 2 Houses off beach, 2bed/2bath, Sleeps 8, Ocean & Mtn Views

Pros: The location is perfect, I counted 200 steps to the beach. The owner provided beach towels, chairs, toys, boogie boards. We love the beach and really enjoyed being able to see the sunrise, go back to sleep, and then having a whole beach day within steps.
The shower/bathroom situation was good. We especially loved the outdoor shower and the shower on the lower level being separate from the bathroom. Since everyone fights over who gets to shower first after the beach.
They have lots of pots and pans, and serving dishes. No dishwasher, but a big sink for handwashing. I saw earlier reviews complaining about food being left behind, but I appreciate having certain staples so I don’t have to buy them. I would suggest doing an inventory of spices and things you would want to have on hand for cooking before you go grocery shopping.
There was a propane BBQ, and the owner provided a tank. We grilled a lot, and that was tacky appreciated.
There are plenty of places to sleep, my brother and his kids took one bedroom and me and my kids took the “master” bedroom and the common area. But wouldn’t suggest renting this place with someone you are not comfortable sharing right quarters with.
Cons:
They need more forks, for some reason there are only a handful of forks and lots of spoons and knives.
There are quite a few windows that don’t have screens on them.
The kitchen faucet needs to be replaced. It’s a crap shoot how to turn it on/off or hot/cold. When you are washing

I really loved the overall feeling of this rental! You can't beat the location! Being so close to everything and two minute walk to the beach was lovely :))

We loved the location. House was fine as we are laid back family. I had several questions early on about the house and taking care of the property ( where light switches were, what we could use, etc) for the property manager that I messaged in the VRBO app but never got a response. We were a family group of 9 and we fit but property probably more comfortable with 6 people.

We had a great stay! It was located right by the Marine base and it's only a couple yards from the beach. We where able to cook for our while family which was nice! Safeway and other stores aren't that far. They had plenty of beach towels for the whole family. The laundry machines worked great. Highly recommended.

We loved so much this beautiful property, is just 2 minutes from the Kailua Beach, very convenient when you travel with kids and they want to be at the beach mornings and afternoons for play and relax.
The house is well equipped with umbrellas, beach chairs, boards, toys and beach towels. As soon as you arrive the property you can go directly to the beach, you'll have all that you need.
The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need.
The wind at night is delightful!
The house has plenty of windows.
Mark was very accommodating with our early check-in and check out, easy to work with.
We would definitely book again!
Thank you for everything Mark, we had a wonderful family vacation at your house.

It's a good idea to inform your guests that they need to be able to climb a stairway to get to the dining and sleeping area in case they may not be physically able to do so. The photo on the ad gives you the impression the living area is on the ground floor. It was comfortable for my family of six.
Some of the small kitchen appliances need to be cleaned of thrown out.

This house was even better than we thought it would be! The beach access from the house is AMAZING!! We had a wonderful trip!

I liked the access to beach didn't like the curfew most people that go on vacations like to go out once in a while anyways we got one complaint cause we went oit and got home after midnight. Either way everything was good we had fun.

My family and I enjoyed our stay here in this nice, cozy house near the beach. The location was wonderful for our needs.

Went in early April so weather was mid 80’s and strong breeze. It has an authentic feel vs a high end/modern vibe. Its functional and beautifully located. We didn’t try the air conditioners so can’t speak for that. There were a few outlets that didn't work and struggled with the internet a bit (too stubborn to just call the owner, but when I did he had us online immediately. Loved having the outdoor shower, indoor first level bathroom with shower and laundry downstairs kept all the sand downstairs on the easy to sweep tile floor. Loads of beach towels to use, one house walk to a beautiful beach. Kitchen had loads of supplies to cook and with several different rooms everyone has some space. Parking was right in front, backyard was nice to relax in (yes the house next door is under construction but its nearly complete so they were doing paint touchups and landscaping, likely done by the time you read this) and it was super close to plenty of shopping. I would totally stay there again.

Do yourself a favor. If you have any standards at all to not book this location. Completely misrepresented in listing. So much so that we were forced to find other accommodations in the area after our arrival and initial walkthrough. We expressed our concerns immediately to Matt and were basically told to pound sand. "Master Suite" is nothing more than a bed in a converted attic/bonus room. No closets. No TV. No bathroom. Not even the largest bedroom on the property. Shame on VRBO for allowing this. VRBO customer service rep couldn't even give me what their definition is of a master suite (don't ever count on them for true customer support). Electrical issues throughout the property including kitchen lights that didn't work, electrical tape over non-functioning light switches, missing fixture covers and no lighting (or handrail) in stairwell leading to the "master suite". Paper towels and tissues stuffed into screens which we assumed was meant to plug holes and keep bugs out. Outdoor shower filthy. Dirty refrigerator. Dirty HVAC vents. Major active construction next door (which I was told 2 months prior to our arrival would be completed other than landscaping) with any ocean views nearly completely obscured. I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture. Bottom line is there are many, many other properties to consider when vacationing in Kailua. Do not rent this property.

Great house very close to a fabulous beach.
Lots of things we loved about this place, beyond just the proximity to a wonderful, safe beach. The house has lots of character, with what appears to be new floors and ceilings, and is well equipped, with beach furniture, outside shower, lots of fans, etc. A few things would benefit from being updated (stove, cutlery, kitchen tap, BBQ) but these are all relatively minor. The new build next door has taken the seaview from masterbed room of the house, but this doesn't really matter as it's only a few steps to the sea. Future guests are advised to bring eye masks to sleep, as there are no curtains, and also to try both of the entry codes given (the one given to us in the only email response from the owner was incorrect, but the other code in the standard notes worked). Overall a great place for a chilled family holiday.

Total failure
We arrived on schedule at the unit. Great location, located a few houses from the beach. The mechanical lock box was not working, either the code given was incorrect, or the batteries were dead. I texted, and called the owner Mat at the contact number given, over an hour went by, no response. The tenant who owns the other half of the house walked by, I told him who we were, and that we needed to contact Mat, he said something to the effect of “good luck, I’m try to get a hold of him too”. It was getting dark, almost all of the hotel rooms on Oahu were full. You ask yourself, what happens if this person does not get back to me? What’s my fall back? I waited about another 30 minutes, I called and called the contact phone, nothing. We drove to Honolulu and stayed at a hotel. Mat did finally respond, sometime between 90 minutes and two hours later, he gave me his actual contact number, why this is not given when the property is booked is a good question. It was a very stressful and totally avoidable situation, if we had either been given the correct code, and or the batteries were working, and or Mat provided a good contact phone number then none of this would have happened. We also noted that there is a very large new home being built right next door, expect construction noise, and it would appear that the new house will block most or all of the ocean views.

Frat boy flop house
The positives of this property are the location ( two houses of our favorite beach) and parking
Everything else are negatives.
Cleanliness: at the beach we expect ants and roaches, however, rat poop and pee on the trundle bed (not ok). The refrigerator: or cleaned, full of open containers of other peoples food.
When we got there the codes we were given to get the keys from the lockbox were not correct and the phone number we were given for the property manager was not working. We had to disturb the permanent tenants to get the correct name and phone number of the manager.
When we got there the cable box was broken and had to be replaced.
On day 2 the only fan burned out.
The most important thing is that there was not a single comfortable place to sit in the entire place!
There were no curtains on any windows. No privacy.
Construction next door…….. on scaffolding, directly outside our windows form 6:45 am to 4:30 pm.
Missing window screens in every room.
No beach equipment. We had to buy 3 beach chairs ($100) and give them away when we left.
Basically this is a “frat boy flop house” too many beds and no comfort or cleanliness.
E cannot recommend this rental to anyone!

Great Covid Relief at the Beach!! 5 stars
We were able to spend almost two months relaxing a few steps from the beautiful beach here in Kailua. This home is in a residential street 2 houses from the beach with the ocean easily seen from the windows. My favorite was waking up and looking straight out at the sunrise over the water. Drifted off to sleep each night listening to the waves. This was perfectly situated for our needs, close to the beach, quiet neighborhood, swimming, body surfing, close to great shopping and restaurants. We were minutes away from hiking trails and botanical gardens. We were able to explore many other beaches and fun tide pools. Honolulu and the airport were only 25 minutes away for great day trips for eating out, visiting Waikiki beach, hiking Diamond Head, and visiting Pearl Harbor. We took great trips up the coast towards the Polynesian Cultural Center and enjoyed a great zip line adventure.
Despite having 7 family members, we each had enough beds and sleeping arrangements as well as available bathrooms and showers. Beds were all comfortable. It’s great having a third outdoor shower when needed to rinse off after the beach. When any questions came up, we could always reach the owner via phone, text, or email with a quick response to our questions. We had a great adventure that was both relaxing and filled with memorable activities. What a great way to pass a pandemic with kids getting schoolwork done so they could then go swim in the ocean. A great trip for sure and would love to come back.

Kailua Beach
This home is in a quiet neighborhood and is steps from the beautiful beach. The home is clean and comfy. We were 5 adults and 1 baby and there was ample room for all of us. The first floor has a washer/dryer. It also has a bathroom (one room with a toilet and sink and another room with a shower and sink) which makes it easier for everyone to get ready. Of course the second floor has a full spacious bathroom along with the living areas and bedrooms. The nighttime trade winds which blow thru the windows along with the sound of the ocean make sleeping cool and peaceful. There are fans available too.

Perfect for our family
This property was perfect for our family of 5. There were plenty of beds for everyone and the A/C was so nice at night! They had everything from for the beach including boogie boards. And nothing can beat the location!

A local was impressed with the location
Our son who lives on the island was impressed with the location. Steps from a beautiful swimming beach. Great for morning walks on the beach.
2 miles from a sunrise hike @ pillbox hike
1/2 mile from a Safeway grocery store and plenty of good food.
No Honolulu traffic
Safe quiet neighborhood
Nice house: comfortable beds and all the pans & utensils you need. Mark is quick to get things fixed when needed.

You can't beat the location!
It's all about location for me. Being this close to the beach, and a really good beach at that, it is all worth it. The nearby shopping area has a lot of good restaurants and shops, without feeling the congestion like you would have in the bigger cities.

Cute place and perfect location
Great place for our families, parents got bedrooms and kids slept on futons in common room. We used the barbecue area and outdoor tables for dinners. Safeway is 5 minutes away for groceries. Owner was quick to respond to requests (like when we needed more gas for the grill). Of course the best part is location a minute from the beach!

Great location and value!
It's an older house, but it really grew on us. We came to love its functional nature and charm. Sure it's not ocean front, but being just a couple hundred feet from the beach makes this an amazing value. Outside warm shower, laundry, multiple bathrooms, functional kitchen all make up this wonderful place. Would recommend to others and would stay here again the next time we visit!

Great place for families
We enjoyed being so close to Kailua Beach for boogie boarding and walking.. The house worked well for the 7 of us, and the neighborhood was very quiet. Mark responded to our questions and requests kindly and quickly. We cooked at home, and found the kitchen well supplied with pots and dishes. The washer and dryer were very helpful. The air conditioning was surprisingly appreciated.during the afternoons as it was hot during our stay. Thank you for a comfortable, happy and memorable stay!

Great place to stay. Close to the water.
The house was great. Beds were comfortable and the futon in the tv room was easy to fall asleep on. Coffee maker was good to have and used it every morning. We liked that there were spices and other food items already there so we didn't have to purchase extra. TV is nice and has wifi so we used it for watching Netflix. The two showers were nice so we could get ready faster in the mornings. Probably the best was having a kayak right there. It took two of us to carry to the beach but we were able to get past the waves and kayak in the bay.

Amazing time in Kailua, HI
There were 7 adults in our group and we all loved being 2 houses from the beach. We had been to Kailua many times and we were there to relax and enjoy the beautiful ocean. The house was comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood and we could walk to many things, downtown area and stores. We also are retired military and it was great to be one mile from the Marine base to take advantage of the grocery stores for shopping. The house had all the amenities we needed to cook most of our meals which is what we prefer to do. We had a few issues with picnic table and dishes but Mark addressed these very quickly. We had a beautiful breeze everyday and did not need to use the air conditioners most of the time. We definitely would return again. Thank you Mark for allowing us to relax in your rental property.

Wonderful Cozy Rental
This was a perfect rental for our family needs. It had ample room and spacious layout. The kitchen was equipped with all the basic needs. The standout feature was the location. The beach was a minute walk and the water gear available with the house made it a favorite spot for us. There were many cute shops and restaurants located a short drive from the property. Mark was communicative and provided great instructions from beginning to end. In summary, this was a wonderful vacation spot for a family.

Cute with lots of character! Great setup & very close to beach!
Husband & I renewed our vows in Kailua and really loved our stay! Access to the beach is just down the culdisac. It was very convenient to have all of the beach accessories available to us. The house setup was perfect for us! There was so many sleeping places we were finding more beds under beds daily lol. My husband and I very much appreciated our secluded suite on the top floor. The views were phenomenal and the sound of the ocean was soothing. This house was the best of both worlds, met the needs of our big family yet was romantic at the same time. The kitchen had all the equipment and utensils we needed. We loved being able to cook! Costco is driving distance we stocked up. I can go on and on about the house we loved it!!! It was very nicely decorated as well with lots of towels & extra blankets. The owner responded with any questions we had quickly. If you want to be close enough to city life but still enjoy quiet time this is your spot!

Peaceful and close to beach
My family stayed here for a little over a week. We enjoyed how close the house is to the ocean. The body boards provided were fun to use and the waves at the beach were just right. The front door has a code lock so we could leave our keys and valuables inside the house while we stayed at the beach. The outside shower was so nice to rinse off the sand because it had hot and cold water faucets. We usually cooked breakfast and there were plenty of plates, bowls, cups, and silverware. The house is located at the end of a street so there was very little noise allowing us to sleep with the windows open and listen to the waves.

WOW what a great property
We have a big family and this worked great. House layout is fantastic with enough room for us to get together and for us to have space. Beach toys were great. Beach was right there. Bathroom by the front door was much appreciated. Can't wait to come back. Kailua is such a great town.

Loved the Beach and the Community
Pictures don't do Kailua Beach justice. Its right out your front door. Kids loved it and the entry area was perfect for potty breaks with sandy feet.
Nico's restaurant is amazing and walking distance away. Will certainly come again.
