Brighton Beach Bungalow was an amazing place to stay! Communication with the owner, Laurie, was great and she was always helpful and accommodating. The bungalow was perfect for me and my teenage son. The bed was comfortable and so was the pullout couch. Everything we needed for the beach was available for us to use. It was about a 5 minute walk to the beach and it was great! There were plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance too. This was the perfect place to stay and if we make it to the Ocean Beach area in the future we would love to stay here again!

AC is only in the bedroom and loud not working as should. contacted owner let them know we are living their reply was sorry to hear safe travels. even in a heat wave, the AC should have been cold with bedroom door closed and extremely loud its not working right. will not stay again taken advantage of by the owner

A great place to stay. Close to the beach, restaurants, garage parking, washer and dryer, air conditioner in the bedroom, grills, beach chairs, a fully stocked kitchen, and I could keep on going. Laurie (the owner) was easy to reach and friendly. Highly recommended rental!

Very Nice Bungalow
The bungalow was very nice, clean, and well appointed.
The kitchen has everything you need and full sized appliances.
All linens and towels provided, even beach towels.
Comfortable sofa to enjoy an evening watching TV.
The street is packed with parked cars. So glad for the off street parking provided in the garage.
Walking distance to the beach and to the small community.
The only negative was it is in the flight path of the airport so it can get a bit noisy. This would not stop us from renting this bungalow again.
All in all a very nice and comfortable stay.

Perfect for our little getaway
Loved how clean & well maintained the property was, and how it was less than five minutes for us to walk down to the beach and just a ten minute stroll to Newport Ave! It had everything we could’ve needed. We will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits!

So close to the beach
We also appreciated the filtered water picture in the refrigerator. The towels and beach chairs were very handy and good quality. Too hot to sleep comfortabley on sofa sleeper but the bedroom was cooled by window air conditioner.

Lovely Little Place
We spend a lot of time in SD usually on Mission or Pacific but wanted a little slower pace so chose OB. Short walk to the beach and dog beach, coffee shops and eateries. Enjoyed this little duplex very much, would love if they would consider dogs so we could bring them next time and the close proximity to dog beach!

Absolutely perfect!
We rented for a short 4 day stay kid free! We fkew into SD and the house was only 15m from the airport. When we got in a local guided us to Newport Ave for the food, breweries, and cool shops. It was a quick walk and we took scooters 1 day, which was terrifying but even quicker (we were hungry that day). The beach was about 50 feet from the front door. We spent a few nights on the sand watching the world go by and being hypnotized by the sounds of the ocean. The owner was so nice and t3nded to every question and need attentively. I would highly recommend this place for a couple. Maybe even with kids...sleeping on the sofa bed. We will be back! Five stars from us!!!!

We had a wonderful time at this property. The owners were very nice to work with and accommodating. The listing is spot on. The kitchen is well stocked with the necessary cooking tools. We would definitely stay here again.

Could have been wonderful - wasn't
Listing inaccurate - you can't hear the ocean when you sleep (only when you are outside and it is quiet, which is extremely rare). You can't see it at all. Falling asleep to the sound of the sea was one of our top two reasons for renting this location. The second reason we selected this was the property manager's reply to another visitor's complaint (Aug 2018) about the lack of air circulation - they said that they added an air conditioner after that visitor in response to their complaint. Maybe they did, but there wasn't one when we got there, and it was miserable - hot and stuffy. Two nights of very poor sleep. The small bathroom window was broken and could not be opened, so there is no chance for any cross-circulation at the bedroom end of the cottage. The property manager said they'd put in a/c the second day after we complained when we arrived, and said it would be between 12 and 3 - and never showed up. Never told us they weren't going to show up. Took several hours to reply when we asked for new ETA and then said they'd try to get there the third day and text us before coming. No text. When they showed up they said they were sorry - they were too busy making money with another one of their businesses the day instead of doing what they said they were going to do. Very frustrating after having paid a lot of our hard earned money for this cottage.
Had the a/c been there from day one, and had we not needed help from the property owner, this could have been an overall rating of 3 or 4.
Note that the other cottage shares the courtyard, and since this is the front property, the occupants of the other will be walking by your cottage to get in and out of theirs, so there is limited privacy. Also, since smoking is allowed on the patio, if you're a non-smoker and the other property has a smoker, you have to keep your windows closed to avoid the odor. We had this issue.
Pros: easy walk to beach and wonderfully quirky downtown OB . Plenty of towels - decent quality linens all around. Well provisioned kitchen equipment and dishes. Close driving to lots of SD attractions.
Property is in take-off zone (as is all of OB) to SD airport, so plan on lots of noise between 6:30 AM and 11:30 PM every day every few minutes.
Bring your own DVDs - not BluRay - a small collection of good old VHS videos are on site.
This was our first vacation rental disappointment anywhere - ever.

From my family to yours
My husband, myself and our 2 children stayed in the Brighton condo for 3 nights. It was perfect in every way. The beach is a quick walk away, the house was clean and comfortable with plenty of room for us. I gave it 4 stars because we found the area and boardwalk a little run down/ dirty. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect for my family. Cute home, many extras to enjoy at the beach, and pretty quiet. Boys fished while girls checked out the beach, smoothie bars and shops. Pizza Port was excellent. Also short distance to zoo and La Jolla sea lions.

Nice, comfortable place so close to the beach, within walking distance of restaurants and an easy drive to downtown San Diego. Planes start taking off promptly at 6:30 am, which I did know about but kinda forgot since our last trip out this way in Ocean beach, but not a big deal. House had plenty of items in kitchen to cook with and plenty of towels.

Wonderful stay!!
My husband and I stayed in San Diego for a week long get a away. This was a great place. The location to the beach, dining, and amusement parks (Sea World, Zoo) were just minutes away. We could walk to beach it was just a few yards away. The house had everything we could need. The bed are extremely comfortable. Everything was neat and clean. Decent beach cottage
Nice owners, good location, household amenities are just ok. Overall good. OB is unique and a little different, and if you are looking for that, good choice. The whole area is under the airport flight path so plane noise is always present. Walking is easy to the beach and main area.

We loved our stay and the short walk to the beach. The rental was very clean and well equipped. Towels were plentiful and there was even coffee and creamer from a previous tenant. All in all, a nice place in a good location for the price. DOn't let the deposit scare you off!

Fantastic location
Staying at Brighton Beach Bungalows made our trip easier for everything - we came to San Diego with my daughter for her to move in to San Diego State University: access to the beach where we could go for a dip every morning and/or evening (we were not on vacation), access to the highway I-5 that we needed to take everyday to SDSU, the shower in the front courtyard, the garage, the restaurants/coffee shops and the organic grocery shop all walking distance in the neighborhood! The kitchen was practical and very well equipped. The only thing I strongly suggest to improve is the air circulation inside the bungalow. While it was cool in the morning and evenings outside, unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the cool temperature that much as it stayed hot and stuffy inside due to the fact that the bungalow is tightly surrounded by a wooden fence (as most of them in the neighborhood are) so it doesn't allow for proper air circulation, even when we kept both front and back doors open and that there is no AC. The floor and ceiling fans are bulky and very noisy so it is was uncomfortable and inconvenient to put them on at night but we had to. The ceiling one in the bedroom needs to be replaced with new generation of quiet, green/Eco-friendly fans and/or install AC units of the same - it will dramatically improve the comfort of this place.
Overall we were happy with our stay. Laurie was very responsive and helped with everything we needed, recommending some restaurants/cafes in the neighborhood (all walking distance) and including granting us a late check-in and check-out . Half a Block to the Beach!
The place was nicely updated but still had that old time OB charm. We appreciated that all the outside doors had entry codes - no extra keys to carry around (and lose). There were plenty of beach chairs and boogie boards for us to use. The shower/tub even had a jacuzzi feature with it that was really great! But, really, how are you going to beat a place that is just half a block from the beach? That was fantastic!!
