We loved vacation spots this year from Assateague Island and it was perfect! Glen was so helpful with everything that we needed to make this an easy transition! My husband and our 8 year old go with our “Framily” friends - another couple and their two sons. Plenty of room for all of us!
We love to drive on the beach and it was so easy to get a permit online before we came and the access point was just a few minutes away, as noted. We walked to the beach in the morning for sunrises and it was also just as described - so close!
The views from the deck were great. The outside shower was a hit! Plenty of space to lounge and relax and enjoy all the Avon has to offer. We took advantage of proximity to the Farmers Maekwt and got some amazing tomatoes and other goodies for beach dinners & being close to the grocery store stopped us from eating all of the amazing food nearby. But we did try a good number of the recommendations and they were all great!
We did notice there are a lot of restaurants not open every day or closed last minute or very long ways, but in height of summer season we’re happy to see business thriving!
We found a boat rental about 25 minutes away that was super fun for a day too! And spent some
Time at the lighthouse as well.
Every question we had prior to check in and once checked in was answered promptly and with kindness. We will definitely go back!

We had a great time in Avon. The house is perfectly located where you can walk to the beach, restaurants, pool, tennis courts, and grocery store. There was plenty of space and the decks were amazing to sit on at night and take in the amazing sunsets. It was a quiet and perfect family vacation.

Pros: close walk to the beach. Close to Food Lion and other stores. Good space in the house.
Cons: I'm not sure what is stipulated to be cleaned by the professional cleaners, but they may need to expand to more areas of the home, or they need to do a better job. The ceiling fans all had a layer of dust visible that would have accumulated over months, versus days. And the fans were very wobbly when in use.. One bathroom had a layer of dust where the tile meets the wall. It is bring your own linens, but I think you should be your own everything. Two of the mattress pads were visibly dirty, and so I laundered them on a rival. I did not use the blankets provided. Some of the wooden chairs on the decks showed signs of weather rot and seemed unstable. The outdoor screened area had a door with no screen and the screens in the windows were torn away in some places. The TV in the one master allows for connection to Netflix, but the main living room doesn't, so you have to watch DVD or VHS. The cable is a very basic package. There is a vacuum for guests to use but we found it to have inadequate suction. Overall, this house could be nice, but it needs some updating and a thorough cleaning. Also,, the body of water in the back has alligators in it. This can be expected in the South, but it should be mentioned as some people may have their child kayak on the water.

We stayed at this house the year before, and immediately wanted to book it again. The house is great; clean and air-conditioned and well-stocked. It's right on the bay (or some body of water), which means when you sit out on the balcony at night you get the breeze and almost no mosquitos. The location is a few steps from the beach and right next to the grocery store and dollar store for all your vacation needs.
Glen is an excellent host and knows how to respond to your text messages, and the check-in was super easy. Highly recommend this house... especially for families!

We loved everything about this house! Great location! Walking distance to everything! Wonderful community pool. The manager responded quickly and referred someone to help us and she was amazing! Remember to bring your bug spray. Loved the kayak on the lake. Beautiful sunsets!

Excellent Stay at Surfdancer
We just returned from our amazing vacation at Glen's beach house (Four adults and four young kids). The house was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The central-air worked perfectly, and the house had everything we needed. It was footsteps from the beach, and just next door to the grocery store and community pool. At night we sat on the deck overlooking the bay, which had a lovely breeze and no mosquitoes! Glen was very responsive in answering any questions we had. I would definitely rent this house again!

Wonderful property
We had a wonderful week in Avon. Surfdancer is just as Glen advertised. The home is beautiful and the location is ideal. The view of the small lake is gorgeous and the closeness to the ocean was great it truly is a short walk. The third floor living is a bit of a chore when first settling in for someone not used to stairs at all lol. Plenty of space for everyone and would highly recommend.

Great escape at a fair price
We stayed for a week at Surfdancer for our first time in Avon. The house was as described. Simply decorated and beach themed. The kayak was a plus with the kids. We enjoyed the short walk to Duck Donuts, and to the beach. The kitchen had enough stuff to make family dinners easily, though we still brought our own spices and a couple kitchen knives. We made frequent use of the community pool, which was a huge bonus! The house was more than big enough for us two adults and our 6 kids.

The property was located nicely. Beach was in walking distance and drive-on location was within a mile. The grocery store being less than a mile away was nice as well. Property was clean and the amenities fit our needs perfectly.

Great location for a family stay!
We absolutely loved our stay at Surfdancer! The house was well appointed and was perfect for our family of 5 adults and our four year old niece. The location of the house is wonderful, the neighborhood was quiet yet it was still close to everything we needed (beach, grocery store, restaurants, etc). The neighborhood amenities were great, we really enjoyed the pool and the access to the little lake behind the house. Fair warning, if you plan on kayaking on the pond or fishing off of the dock in the back you need to bring strong bug spray. My husband and I got some of the worst mosquito bites we’ve ever had because we made the mistake of going to the dock without any bug spray on.
The sunsets were one of the highlights of our day every day, truly gorgeous! Overall we would absolutely rent this house again! Thanks for an absolutely amazing stay!

Great vacation rental
Great vacation house. Glenn was very responsive with any questions we had. I was worried about the proximity to the beach since it was on the bay side but the walk was very easy and short. I would rent this house again for our vacation.

Wonderful Family Vacation
We were a family of 8 - 7 adults and 1 toddler. We all enjoyed our stay so much! The house was clean and well-equipped for cooking meals each night. We used the grill a lot. The huge dining table was perfect. We were all comfortable sleeping. Our son used the kayak on the lake. We absolutely loved the gorgeous view from the deck. I'd say possibly the best aspect of this house is the fact that it is on the lake and is wooded and feels very private and has the gorgeous view off the deck which made it feel like a retreat. It was also very quiet and peaceful. That, and the location.... a quick, pleasant 4-minute walk to the beach, and so close to stores and the community pool. You could actually walk to the community pool if you wanted to. Also it was close to the rest of Hatteras Island to the south, which we explored a lot....Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras. Such a beautiful area!
There is a beautiful sound beach a few minutes away with calm waters for children...and we adults enjoyed it as well. We usually drove to the lifeguard beach in Buxton for swimming because we felt safer with a lifeguard with the strong undertow and waves. But all the beaches were gorgeous, including the one near the house! We had a fire on this beach one evening which was so fun. We spent most of our evenings on the deck. I meditated and did yoga on the deck each morning. We used the beautiful, large, clean community pool every day, often twice a day, in the morning after the beach and again in the afternoon or early evening. It is open until 7pm. The fish market close by was nice to have. I recommend you go down to the beach across from the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras... it was our favorite beach and absolutely gorgeous with beautiful blue water! We swam here even though there was no lifeguard. And it is just a beautiful drive down there and felt so otherworldly. I would definitely come back to Avon and would stay at this home again.
We had one issue with the dishwasher and Glen had it fixed immediately and was in close communication about it. Communication with him was very good and prompt from beginning to end of the experience and he inquired about our safe arrival and whether we needed anything when we arrived and was a very good host. He does need to get a recycling bin at the house for guests so they don't have to drive their recyclables to Buxton. It is so important to recycle and that convenience should be provided.

Perfect home for our large family!
This was our first time staying at the surfdancer, but definitely won’t be our last. The house is gorgeous, very spacious, it accommodated our family of 7 perfectly. The location is also perfect. Walking distance to the beach, grocery store and other shops. We had a wonderful time and Glen is great to work with!

Perfect family vacation!
This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and the Surfdancer and Avon were everything we hoped they would be! Glen was an absolutely delight to work with - he's very detail-oriented, so that made the entire process incredibly easy. Everything was just as he described it, his restaurant and other suggestions were spot on, and we had everything we could need and then some! As a mom of young kids, I appreciated that he even supplied a high chair and small baby gate. The walk to the beach was easy - we pulled a wagon loaded with kids and gear - and the beach ... wow. I fell in love! I'm originally from Florida and have been to beaches all over the world, but the Outer Banks were so relaxing, great sand and not crowded, which was the major selling point for us. It really was just a great experience, the family vacation we were hoping for, and we can't thank Glen enough!

Worth every penny, and Every veiw from every angle!,
Owner very active with assistance, beautiful views. Close to everything extremely clean , make sure to take the left turn out the driveway to the path to the grocery store it saves 10 mins of walking. The sun sets... were amazing only thing that threw me was the trash pick up which is in no way in the owners control 1:30am we thought Our truck was Being Stolen! We will be back...and. have more coolers for more space for more fish to take home!!! Thank you Glen for some amazing memories your home was able to provide our family.

3rd stay and we still love it!
We love staying at Surfdancer. The views from the upstairs are worth the price of the whole house! We enjoy sitting on both decks and like the convenience of the location as it is close to great places to eat and easy shopping. We brought our bikes and our 4x4 this time and loved heading out to the ORV ramps close by and in Ocracoke. The house is well supplied and was clean and ready for our arrival. The clean up is easy and fast too. We will be back!!

Perfect in every way!
This is the third year I have rented this property. It is a close walk to shopping, the beach and a short bike ride to the pool. I have three young kids, ages 10, 2 & 1. They can do the walk to the beach just fine. The kayak outback makes for a lot of fun as well! You wont be disappointed with your stay or location.

House and area are exactly as advertised. Beds are comfortable and house was clean when we arrived. Glen cares about his houses and his customers and is very communicative when needed. No need to hesitate if you'd like to stay here! Don't forget to pick up Uglies from the bakery one morning!
