Unser Gayfield Square Apartment ist unser fabelhaftes Anwesen mit zwei Schlafzimmern in einer fantastischen Lage mitten im Herzen unserer wunderschönen historischen Stadt. Besser geht es nicht - die Wohnung liegt an einem schönen grünen Platz in der eleganten georgianischen Neustadt. Wohnen und ruhig, aber nur ein paar Minuten zu Fuß (etwa sieben) vom Trubel in der Princes Street und der George Street entfernt und von dort aus leicht erreichbar zum Schloss und zur Royal Mile. Außerdem sind wir gleich um die Ecke vom unkonventionellen Viertel Broughton Street mit seiner großen Auswahl an Restaurants, Cafés und Bars sowie einigen hübschen "lokalen" und schrulligen Geschäften (dem besten Metzger der Stadt, einem großartigen Reformhaus und einem Fischhändler) nenne ein paar!)
Die Wohnung ist typisch für ihre Ära, die bis ins Jahr 1820 zurückreicht, und wurde mit der Pracht gebaut, die die georgianische Architektur in ihrer Blütezeit repräsentiert. Es ist auch ziemlich einzigartig mit einem eigenen Eingang, einem privaten Vorgarten und einer hinteren Terrasse (sehr ungewöhnlich für eine Immobilie in solch einer zentralen Lage von Edinburgh). Die gesamte Wohnung befindet sich im Erdgeschoss mit nur einer Stufe in den Vorgarten und ist daher für Personen mit Schwierigkeiten bei der Treppenbewältigung sehr gut zugänglich.
Der Innenstil ist raffiniert, modern und beruhigend mit einer schönen Mischung aus Alt und Neu.
Das Hauptwohnzimmer ist ein sehr geräumiges 16 x 13 Fuß großes Wohnzimmer mit einem schönen funktionierenden Kamin (lebendes Flammengasfeuer), reich verzierten Gesimsarbeiten und Doppelfenstern mit Blick auf die Vorgärten und den Platz dahinter. Die Möbel bestehen aus einem bequemen Sofa und einem modernen Barcelona-Stuhl, beide aus weißem Leder, sowie zwei antiken vergoldeten Stühlen, die mit einem auffälligen Druckmotiv bezogen sind. Im gesamten Gebäude hängen originale Kunstwerke an den Wänden.
Die Schlafzimmer sind ruhig gelegen mit einem gemütlichen europäischen Kingsize-Leder-Bett in einem und einem weißen Holzbett im georgianischen Stil in dem anderen, ebenfalls europäischen Kingsize-Bett. Die Wandverkleidungen sind in beruhigendem Taupe und hellem Mocca gehalten.
Ein Schlafzimmer verfügt über ein eigenes Duschbad mit begehbarer Dusche und Kacheln in Schokoladenlederoptik. Das andere wird vom Hauptbadezimmer mit Eckbadewanne und Dusche bedient.
Die Küche ist komplett ausgestattet - ein großer Herd / Backofen, Mikrowelle, Kühl- / Gefrierschrank, Geschirrspüler, Waschmaschine und Trockner - eine großartige Kochküche sowie ein sehr geselliger Raum, um während Ihres Aufenthalts am großen schwarzen Granit-Küchentisch zu sitzen iss oder beobachte den Koch bei der Arbeit! Französisch Fenster von der Küche öffnen sich auf die hintere Terrasse / Sitzecke.

The photos do not do the property justice. The facilities and location were absolutely brilliant. Minutes walk from major transport and all major historical spots. The host provided detailed recommendation’s for just about every scenario one could imagine. Would love to stay here again.

We came to Edinburgh for the Hogmanay celebration and wanted to stay close to the festivities. This was a great location, close to restaurants and pubs, also a short taxi ride to most points of interest. The house was very comfortable, plenty of the daily need, dishes, towels etc. The accommodations were very comfortable and clean. I would definitely recommend this property for a stay in Edinburgh. The owner was very responsive and helpful with any questions to meet our needs.

Wonderful apartment located close to the center of the city but tucked away on a quiet street. Property has everything you need and is clean, comfortable and warm, perfect for chilly fall nights. Robin was very helpful and proactive checking in with us to make sure we were settled and had everything we needed. Lots of good recommendations from both the owner and prior guests.

We loved our stay in Robin’s apartment in Gayfield square. It’s wonderful inside, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, nice and warm, and lots of supplies in the kitchen as well. The kitchen overall is very well equipped, we wanted for nothing. Lovely to have milk and prosecco in the fridge, and also sweets and delicious home made shortbread!
The location is excellent too - at the quiet end of the square, yet just a couple of minutes walk to a wide choice of restaurants, plus the buses and trams, and only a ten minute walk from the train station as well.
Highly recommended, this is definitely my first choice of places to stay in Edinburgh.

My step son is at the University of Edinburgh for his semester abroad. This apartment was perfect for us—two bedrooms, two baths. He was able to get away from the dorms for a few nights. The property is spotless, fully appointed with every detail you can imagine. We cooked and ate in a few nights. The beds and linens are amazing. The property is in a great central location—we walked everywhere. The neighborhood is safe and the property secure—very quiet with a beautiful park across the street. I would absolutely stay here again. Robin is a wonderful and attentive host—he kept checking in to be sure we had everything we needed. I have already recommended this property to my friends who want to visit Edinburgh. I will definitely return. Thank you, Robin!!

We spent 5 nights herein late October; the location of the flat meant that we had easy access to everything that Edinburgh had to offer; climbing Arthur’s Seat, going to the old town as well as shopping. We also got the tram over to the West End and walked down to Dean Village and the back to the flat. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance as well.
The flat is very comfortable and has everything that we needed; communication with the owner was first class, they always replied to our questions by text or on the Vrbo chat.

We were 2 couples spending 5 days in Edinburgh after a visit to Skye. The condo was ideally located within walking distance of the train station, shopping, restaurants, and pretty much all the sights of this beautiful historic city. No complaints and would absolutely stay again. I should mention the layout allows for good privacy if you are travelling with friends. Thank you Robin!

We booked this lovely 2-bedroom 2-bath for two couples and could not have selected a better property! Location is great...could get everywhere we needed with ease. The accommodations were some of the nicest we have stayed at...considering we have stayed at VRBOs in Europe for 15+ years. We are two couples who spent a very special eight nights at this beautifully appointed home. It was immaculately clean and extremely comfortable. The attention to detail was amazing. We were even able to enjoy a glass of wine on our first night out in the back garden. Whenever we thought we might need something we realized it was already provided. The proximity to restaurants that provided takeaway made it very easy for us to eat at the home when we were really tired. It was also very easy to walk to the bus station where we picked up our scheduled tours or to the tram stop. Robin was a fantastic communicator and usually responded to any question or concern within minutes. I have already recommended this rental to someone who will be returning to Edinburgh and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to this lovely city.

Perfect place for our first trip to Edinburgh. Location allowed us to walk everywhere and Robin’s information was super helpful in navigation where to go and what to do. Sometimes it's easy to write a review about staying somewhere, and in a sense this is one of those situations. Simply put, there is absolutely nothing that isn't top-notch about Robin's Old Merchant's House suite. From the appearance of the neighborhood and the house itself, to the gardens leading up to the front door, to the tastefully decorated and stylish interior, this comfortable and well-appointed home is truly a delight to stay at.
The suite itself has every amenity, and the thoughtful designer touches and attention to details sets it apart from most others. It's quiet location, the comfortable beds with plump pillows and soft duvets, and the roomy bedrooms (with ample closets and drawers) provide for restful sleeps and ease of dressing. The kitchen is large and very conducive to food preparation and cooking, and the eating area easily seats four around 3 sides of a table.
The location is well-suited to easy 10 minute (or less) walking to numerous local restaurants and pubs, as well as historic cathedrals, buildings, and various points of interest. We could walk to the Hop-On Hop-off bus loop in about 20 minutes, and another 10 minute walk would take us across North Bridge to the Royal Mile. Taxis are easy to flag near the house, and it's also a short distance to Waverley train station.
We had a remarkably enjoyable experience staying at The Old Merchant's House while visiting Edinburgh, and we'd wholeheartedly recommend it's consideration to anybody else.

A helpful property owner and a great location. This is just what we needed after time on the road. The welcoming front garden and the spacious light filled living room made us feel right at home and the washer/dryer was a godsend. The sofa a bit low for oldies but this is a place I thorougly recommended.

We had a wonderful week long stay at Robin’s property in New Town. The location was very central - just a short walk to all major attractions with many wonderful restaurants nearby. The property was as beautiful as in the pictures and the beds were so comfortable. Robin was wonderful to work with throughout the process. His list of restaurants was very helpful - definitely recommend The Olive Branch, Fed, Barony Bar, Devil’s Advocate, Antoinetta’s and Loch Fyne in Leith. We also had an amazing meal and evening experience at the farm-to-table The Free Company in Balerno. It is definitely worth the trip out of the city. We also had a great experience with the tour guide Robin recommended - Mike McKinlay. Thank you Robin for helping make our trip to Scotland so memorable.

The Old Merchant's House is beautiful historic home with picturesque gardens and a park across the street. It is clean, quiet, secure and well appointed. The beds are comfortable and the hot water is plentiful. It is within easy walking distance of Princes Street and numerous restaurants and a grocery are nearby. This apartment was a highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend it and will definitely stay there if we return.

Beautiful and cosy flat in a very quiet location in the center of Edinburgh. Very comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, spotless cleanliness in every aspect.
Our dogs loved the park just a few steps over the small road.

You’ll love this place, from the moment you walk through the lovely garden through the front door and hallway and out into the back patio. The beds are comfortable, and if you need total dark to sleep, you’ll find it here. The quiet location next to a police station and across from a park ensures both safety, quiet, and convenience. It’s a short walk to most of the city’s major attractions. Kitchen is well furnished, and the living area is comfortable. Highly recommend.

Our family had an exceptional stay. The apartment was just as advertised, but the furnishings, location and special touches were above and beyond. Communication with the owner was also exceptional when questions arose. We can not wait to return to Edinburgh and stay here. We were 2 couples staying in Robin’s place and it was perfect for our needs. The suite was wonderful with it’s 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room and kitchen. It was well appointed and Robin was a gracious and accessible host. We all would recommend this property.

The house was exactly as described in the listing. I can tell from my chats that Robin is truly a quality person. Philip is awesome too and REALLY helpful upon arrival with parking. Location was awesome. House was clean and safe. Everything you could ever need was clearly laid out in the booklet in the kitchen. Communication was excellent.
