Wonderful apartment close to the Capitol. Everything in walking distance

We took our 2 grandchildren to DC on a summer “field trip”. This was a perfect place for 2 adults and 2 grandchildren ages 11 and 13. There was enough room to use an air mattress so they wouldn’t have to share the full size sofa bed. The kitchen lacked a pitcher but that was found at the nearby Safeway which is quite nice. The location is indeed close to the Metro and there is a variety of restaurants close by. We definitely recommend this apartment in a quit and upcoming neighborhood. We picked this property for location to a metro station. Even though the house is located in an alley, it was a great neighborhood, safe, well lit. We walked to & from the metro at all times of the day without ever feeling nervous. Cool building history, beautiful outside & in. Would have loved more towels & silverware, but overall not a big deal, easily picked some up. Would stay again & recommend to others.

We stayed here for the holiday weekend. The place had everything we needed to cook a couple meals and hang out. She even set up a Christmas tree for us! Location is close to dining and short driving distance from the main attractions on the mall. I’d stay here again!

Staying here was a treat! The property is beautifully designed, very well appointed, quality built, clean and comfortable. Julie responds quickly. The location is marvelous. Easy in and out of the city. Plenty of services in walking distance. Delightful neighborhood to walk around. And only a long walk to the Capitol and the Mall.

This place was perfect for my family of 3! Great location, easy walk to the Metro, clean, and cute. Highly recommend for parties of 2-3 people.

We stayed in the lower unit Dec 1 thru 8th, 2018 and it worked perfect for my husband and I. Communication with Julie was excellent and arrival instructions were clear. She always answered my emails immediately which I very much appreciated. Loved the unit which was modern, spotless, quiet and very comfortable. We even had our own little Christmas tree the owner was so sweet to put up. Eastern Market and Metro were fairly close and it was about 1 1/2 mile walk to Capitol. The bedroom had a very comfy queen bed and the bath had a super walk in shower. The kitchen was out of this world. Great assortment of cookware, washer/dryer, etc. I brought my own cooler full of frozen gourmet meals for the week which worked out great since we were so tired from walking all day. There was also a lovely table to sit at and enjoy eating those meals. This was by far the best Home Away experience we have ever had and I would highly recommend this property for a couple wanting a quiet place to stay.

My wife and I have stayed in the DC 5 or 6 times over the past couple of years, visiting our kids and grandchildren. Each time we have stayed at a different VRBO or AirBnB property and without a doubt, this was the finest property of all. Perfectly located near Pennsylvania Avenue, metro stops and the Eastern Market, it is a hidden gem within a traditional Capital Hill neighborhood. "Hidden" because it is off of a primary road which provides an extra buffer against vehicle and pedestrian noise. However, it is very easy to find. Its rectangular design honors the historic carriage house that once occupied this spot. It is well lit and very secure. The interior was extremely spacious, including the living area, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. All appliances were modern and worked to perfection. The shower was nice (once I figured out which button to push and which ones to leave alone - it took me all of about 30 seconds;)). The bed was comfortable (read firm mattress) and there was ample closet space. A really unique and intelligent feature was the exterior movable wall (bottom unit) that controlled exterior light and provided additional privacy. It was a bit chilly, so we will need to wait to explore the roof-top terrace during visits in the warmer times of the year. In our previous visits, we stayed in the traditional federal row house style units; quaint and interesting, but no more. This unit has so much room, both inside and out. Without a doubt and without any hyperbole, this unit is the best value in DC in terms of price, comfort, location and convenience when compared to the other places that we have stayed. Julie and Karl certainly have a gem.

Convenient location, well equipped rental.

This was our first VRBO experience, and it was excellent! I stayed here with my wife & 12 year-old son while touring DC. The unit is very new renovation of an old carriage house. It has a modern/industrial vibe. All of the finishes are several steps above your typical rental/flipped apartment. The large kitchen is stocked with all of the accessories you may need (including a Keurig with assorted coffee!). The washer & dryer came in very handy (they even stock detergent). The bed is firm (which we liked). This internet was fast (no problem streaming Netflix). The owners live nearby. They communicated quickly & were extremely helpful. Two things to be aware of: 1) There is another apartment on the 2nd floor. You will hear the tenants walking around. 2) The apartment is in an alley in the middle of the block where locals park their cars. The unit is located in a nice neighborhood right next to an elementary school. There is a CVS 1 block away & a Trader Joe's 4 blocks away. It is also just a few blocks from the Eastern Market Metro Station making it very easy to get to the Capital/National Mall/Smithsonian. There are some great restaurants nearby as well. Overall, we highly recommend this apartment!

We stayed for 3 nights in September and can't speak highly enough of both Julie and Karl and their property. We can't think of a single area which didn't appeal, from the fantastic overall design (with some charming historic features retained) to the many thoughtful and generous touches which they included for visitors to use. The helpful information folder told us everything we needed to know about the apartment and the area. Never having been to Washington previously we also found the quiet and safe neighborhood made our stay more enjoyable. Back home again in Australia, we think Washington DC and this property in particular were highlights of our holiday in the US and they definitely exceeded our expectations. My fiancé and I stayed here for the weekend and it was absolutely perfect. If you begged me to tell you one thing I didn’t like about this place I wouldn’t have an answer for you. Karl and Julie are amazing hosts that live near by and leave you with everything you need. The house is very clean and has a modern yet cozy feel. The rooftop deck offers some amazing views and is a great place to relax and enjoy the weather. Next time we venture to DC we need to look no further than this place for our stay. If you stumble upon this gem on HomeAway please don’t look any further, you will not regret staying here. P.S. the shower is really cool, added bonus.

We were so pleased we decided to stay at this apartment rather than a hotel. The apartment was very well appointed, and had clear directions for using it. The location is close to the Capitol and the Mall, with the Metro and various stores (Trader Joes, CVS, dry cleaners, etc.) nearby. The owners were great to deal with, and this apartment made our stay very enjoyable. We will definitely stay there again when in D.C.

We came for Labor Day weekend with 2 teenage boys. The space is beautiful! We learned it was featured in Washingtonian magazine! We met the owner upon arrival and he was so gracious. If you want the quintessential DC local experience, this is the place! If you have large teenagers like we do, the sleep sofa only fit one 16 year old boy. We brought an air mattress for our other son. Would recommend!

I would highly recommend this rental. The location and neighborhood made the trip so enjoyable. It is very close to public transportation, grocery stores, restaurants and Capital Hill. The rental is beautifully designed and thoughtfully arranged to make it comfortable and convenient for guests. The neighborhood is clean, safe and friendly. We were impressed that many of the neighbors greeted us and introduced themselves. This is not a typical rental. We felt very fortunate to stumble across a true gem. We will make every effort to stay in this rental during our next visit to D.C. The quality and comfort are outstanding! You will not be disappointed. Some of the highlights include the comfortable bed, the spacious kitchen, the bright airy living space, the shower, and most of all the hospitality provided by Julie and Karl.

Our family absolutely loved our stay here. The hosts are very helpful and friendly and they have an organized "manual" with suggestions on things to do in the city, info about the area, etc. My wife and our children were in DC for a trip to visit the city and see the monuments. The metro was within walking distance and took us wherever we needed to be. Also within walking distance were restaurants and two grocery stores. 11/10 would book again if we ever come back to DC.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this creative and modern beauty in the Capitol Hill district of DC. The unique and fresh interior was fully equipped with a beautiful kitchen and laundry facilities. Loved the specialty shower system, the dual IKEA closet systems were appreciated to totally escape our suitcases, and the roof access with dinner table to enjoy meals outside and for lounging under the stars. Julie and Karl are the very kind owners of this one of a kind property that I think you will love as much as we did.

We stayed there while visiting DC for my son's graduation from Georgetown Law. Neighborhood is super convenient and close to everything we wanted to do. The house is amazing... loved the modern features! Owner of property was close and very helpful during our stay. When and if we get back to DC I would definitely book this property again.

Enjoyed our stay and proximity to everything! Clean and well kept. Cool design and nice rooftop. Liked that there was a Sonos installed. Only downside was the thin ceiling which you could hear people walking and talking.

We loved staying in this home! It is 3 blocks to the metro, the grocery, and a lot of great pubs, restaurants and cafes. It felt very safe. There are people out walking all the time. The amenities provided by the homeowner include all the basics + toiletries and a hair dryer, basic cooking spices, oil, etc., a full set of dishes, pots and pans, serve ware and bakeware. The kitchen is beautiful! They’ve got a ROKU TV which lets you log into your fave streaming content like Netflix and Hulu. Board games, cards and Wii are great for the kids. Read the provided home notebook for great tips, maps, etc. We left our metro fare cards in it like the renters before us so that the next family could use them. The home was perfect for us: 2 adults and 2 tweens. I highly recommend this spot for your DC trip!
