This was our second time we stayed at the lazy Elk. We really liked the upgrades to the back deck and the dock. The views are great and everything in the home was comfortable. We really enjoyed the pontoon. The kids had such a blast at the rope swing heading into panther creek.

The directions were very clear to get to property. Owner was very responsive to the small issues that arised. The cabin is absolutely stunning, and the view is unreal how beautiful it is!! Boat rental went smoothly and SO fun! Everything was very clean, beds were so comfortable, plenty of supplies and towels for our large group, kitchen really is fullt syocked for your needs.

We cannot say enough positive words! The location is spectacular with a wonderful view of the lake and the Smoky Mountains.
We especially appreciated the use of the ATV to ride to the private dock, which is on a secluded cove. Swimming and kayaking nearly every day were so enjoyable in the pure, clean waters of Fontana Lake.
The cabin was very clean and well maintained. We were pleased to see it stocked so well! We had plenty of paper products, kitchen bags, and even shampoo, conditioner and body wash were supplied. They even had beach towels available for lake use and for the hot tub. We forgot to pack coffee filters (the one item) but were pleasantly surprised to find extras in the cabinet. Additionally, more than enough firewood is provided, which we appreciated the night we roasted marshmallows!
The grill was immaculate and both dining on the deck and having our morning coffee there was something we relished. Nighttime was perfect for relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying the stars, sounds of nature and incredible views.
We were blessed to have communication with our hosts. They were extremely responsive and a pleasure with which to interact.
So pleased are we that we wasted no time in booking next summer. We cannot imagine a nicer or more beautiful place to be.

We stopped here after a couple days in the Smokies and on our way back to Nashville. Wanted to experience the South side of the mountains.
Although it was only a couple days, the visit was outstanding. Amy and Eric were great hosts. The Lazy Elk had EVERYTHING we needed and the view was amazing. We used the boat on our only full day there and it was great. What is special is that there are maybe 10 houses with any view of the amazing lake and even fewer have boat/dock access. Fontana Lake is huge and we saw maybe 5 boats the whole day. We enjoyed the boat, grilling, hot tub and the outdoor games the two nights we were there. Although a very quick trip it was the most relaxing part of our vaca. A truly special place that is a great getaway for the busy smokies. Lots of hiking right off the lake as well.
Highly recommended and 5 stars across the board!!

Had a great time. House and location was as described. Very remote and nice for relaxing.

This cabin was possibly one of the cleanest and well stocked with essentials I have ever experienced on a vacation. The view was absolutely unreal. The owners were great to communicate with and very friendly. We rented the pontoon boat all week, which is a must if you plan to get on the water. The entrance to the dock was a bit underwater at the beginning of the week due to the lake being so high as that area had seen a lot of rain. You could still walk through it, but it was knee-high and was a bit difficult when stepping in. By the middle of the week, the water had receded and you were able to step down without stepping into water. The dock is large and well kept with a sitting area, which we enjoyed. There was construction with another cabin off the back deck, but did not obstruct the view. The noise of machinery was literally the only downside, but we just went down to the lake during most days. Overall this was an amazing place to stay and I look forward to coming back!

What a wonderful home!! Stunning views, great location/dock for all sorts of water activities (really enjoyed the kayaking), and the house had everything you could possibly want. Plus the host is amazing! Had the place decked out for my sister’s birthday celebration - what a warm and welcoming surprise. And the host (Amy) was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Thank you Amy for everything! Hope to get back again soon.

Wonderful cabin. The view to the mountains and lake is breathtaking but now at least partially obscured by a cabin being built behind the property. That means you have a neighbor in view from the front porch and another from the back deck. That can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. We were looking for seclusion so that was a bit of a surprise. Otherwise, a beautiful cabin and area.

Once again our family had a wonderful stay at this comfortable and well-equipped home. It is remote and that's what we like about it. ATV provided for trip down to the dock and we rented owner's pontoon boat which was so much fun. The view cannot be beat, pool table a plus, we cooked all our meals and did not lack for anything. Owners are very responsive and a plumbing problem was fixed same day as call made. Comfy beds and plenty of room for all to spread out.

Overall, we had a really nice visit. We traveled with our one and five year old children. Leading up to our visit, Amy was incredibly responsive and helpful!
The property looked a little more worn than the pictures showed. There were cigarette butts and bottle caps around the playground, the porch fire pit didn't work, and there was a lot of stuff in bedroom drawers which made it difficult to unpack our own things. We were disappointed to not know about the new construction going on in front of the property. Workers were on site most of the days we were there.

Very nice property. Welcomed my Wife turning “29”. Host made her fill extra special with a banners, balloons and a nice bouquet of flowers. Enjoyed our walks on the trails, trips to the private dock area, relaxing in the hot tub and playing pool. Very secluded. Loved the view of the Lake. Definitely planing a trip back

Our stay at this cabin was truly remarkable! I consider myself quite the cabin enthusiast and have frequented many, but this one easily ranks as the best I've ever experienced. The views from this place were nothing short of breathtaking; I was completely captivated by them. The listing was entirely accurate, and the host's responsiveness made the entire process smooth and hassle-free.
The cabin itself was not only beautifully designed but also impeccably clean. However, the absolute highlight was undeniably the incredible view. Whether it was enjoying our morning coffee on the deck or marveling at the starry night skies, I was in constant awe.
If I had to mention one small drawback, it would be the distance from the nearest grocery store. My advice to future guests would be to stock up before heading up the mountain. But this minor inconvenience is entirely beyond the host's control. I personally prefer the distance away and the quietness of the cabin.
It was undoubtedly a 5-star stay, and I can't wait to return. Thank you to the host for sharing this incredible cabin with us, everything exceeded expectations.

We enjoyed our stay so much we didn’t want to leave. The bed slept like heaven, i love the Christmas decorations and we didn’t expect to see them. The location is amazing and theres so much to do at the cabin everyone enjoyed and hung out on the deck. I want to come back in the summer

View was beautiful, several Windows didn't lock or close all the way to latch and 3 of 4 smoke detectors were removed. The fireplace in the living room was broke. Pilot light would not stay lite. Spoke to owners several times but were not able to have fixed. The ceiling fan light in the second bedroom had 4 lights that were all burn out and had to replace so you could see. Upstairs Bathroom vent was caked with dust and mold. Had to vaccum ourself. Couch in living room had recliners, only one worked. Hockey game coffee table in living room broke. Dish washer front panel kept falling off, washing machine reaked of mildew. Two mile road going to the house was less than well maintained as advertised. Road has many ruts. Would not rent again. Owner needs to go make many repairs and make sure items work before renting.

Driving up to the house was quite an experience. It built up the suspense and anxiety of whether or not the pictures of the property did it any justice. Let me just say once we pulled up to the cabin we were amazed at how spot on and gorgeous the view was from both the parking area and the back porch!
My visit to the Lazy Elk Cabin was for a laid back bachelor party with the guys and the cabin met our needs and then some. We loved waking up to the view and how secluded it felt in the mountains.
The side-by-side ATV was our saving grace getting up and down the mountain to the dock where three kayaks and the pontoon boat resides as it was quite a steep hike heading back for those of us attempting to walk it.
Speaking of the pontoon boat, I highly recommend renting the pontoon if only for a day to really take in the stunning views surrounding the lake. Amy sent us some awesome coordinates for hiking trails on the other side of the lake regarding waterfalls, creeks, and an overgrown ghost town from the 1890s as well as the spot of the rope swing shown in the pictures.
Visiting at the end of September was also a real treat for us as there were not very many boats cruising around in the lake and it felt like we had it all to ourselves minus the tens of house boats tucked away in the coves. Along with the quietness of the lake the weather was perfect for us to spend a lot of our time on the back porch enjoying the view, hot tub, and firepits both gas and wood-fueled.

We had a blast. The place was perfect and clean. Beautiful area and boat rental was great too. Not a single complaint.

The cabin exceeded our expectations. Off the beaten path you are assured of peace and quiet. The cabin was well stocked with kitchen equipment, paper and cleaning supplies and more than enough entertainment to keep teenagers away from their iPhones for the majority of the days/nights. The views from the cabin and dock area are breathtaking! The pontoon boat, kayaks and water slide were a huge hit for our group and the hike back and forth from the cabin to the dock was plenty of exercise. We will be back!

The porch is incredible with views to last a lifetime! There is everything you could hope for and more right there-gas fire pit, pool table, ladder golf, dinner table, hot tub, and more with a swing set a few steps below. Kids and adults all had something to do! We enjoyed our days on the large dock and kids loved the water slide. 10/10 would recommend-we loved our stay!

This was an amazing property! The views are stunning and if you are traveling with family, the large porch is perfect for eating, grilling, or just spending time together. The owners were gracious and communicated everything well.

This property is absolutely amazing! The views are spectacular and you could spend all day and night on the deck. The house offers a great setup and everything you need. We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!

The view from the deck is absolutely amazing! We spent most of our time on the deck enjoying the view while playing pool, cornhole, ladderball, grilling and eating all our meals on the deck, soaking in the hot tub, and just relaxing in the rocking chairs by the propane firepit. It is the most fun and functional deck, with an amazing view! We also had fun making smores by the campfire while our younger kids played on the swingset. Plenty of firewood is provided.
We also enjoyed an afternoon on the pontoon boat and tubing. Fontana Lake is beautiful and quiet. There weren't many boats on the lake. The rope swing was a hit with our kids (which is not by the dock, but not too far by pontoon boat). The kayaks and slide on the dock were great too! The ATV ride to the dock was a little scary for me, but our kids loved it and my husband had fun driving it. It was nice to be able to use since it would be a long walk down to the dock without it.
The cabin was clean, comfortable, and cozy. It was also well stocked, and had a lot of fun games and puzzles.
Amy was always responsive and went above and beyond when I asked for a special request.
Only advice would be to follow their directions, and be sure to turn LEFT at the mailboxes. I followed google and turned right, and the owner of that property wasn't very happy.
Highly recommend and can't wait to come back again someday!

To say this is a beautiful location is a gross understatement. The scenery is stunning, Fontana Lake is the prettiest and clearest lake I’ve experienced in NC. The property is exactly as advertised. The ATV was key (although I didn’t expect we’d use it as much as we did). Signage was professional and super helpful. There is a bit of home construction starting in the area so I think it was less peaceful during our stay than may have been the case for previous guests. But it wasn’t bad. Kitchen was well stocked, lots of towels and chairs - most of everything you’d need to make for a comfortable stay away from home. Hosts were extremely helpful and quick to respond with information and recommendations of places to see around the lake. Checkin and checkout were seamless. No complaints and we’re considering booking again next year.

The cabin was beautiful, the views were amazing! We had a wonderful time sitting on the deck and using the fire pit. We used the boat one day and it was awesome exploring Lake Fontana. The cabin was very clean and has all the amenities that you will need to cook, the outside grill was great for cooking dinners. We will definitely be back!

This was a great, one of a kind place to get away and enjoy beautiful nature views! It is very remote, so the roads getting there can be tricky. Definitely read the owner’s driving directions thoroughly and prepare by looking up the route ahead of time. It can be a long drive to stores and things to do, but the owners have done a great job stocking the cabin with activities and games. We managed to keep 3 kids having fun there all week. We found the beds and furniture comfortable, and the view really is breathtaking!

If you want to get away from it all in a secluded area, this is the cabin for you. There is a two-mile single-lane gravel road that takes you to the property. The views were incredible; the cabin was clean and stocked with amenities. We spent most of our time on the deck overlooking the lake taking in the astonishing scenery, reading, playing pool, and enjoying the hot tub. This time of year, there was not much activity on the lake, which created an entirely quiet atmosphere except for the wind blowing through the pine trees, which we loved! We also enjoyed walking in the woods and not having "time" dictate our steps. 2 clocks on the desk do not work; for us, it symbolized time standing still at the lake house. We came away truly refreshed and look forward to returning in the future. We did not partake in the water activities due to the time of year. The lake was low, resulting in the docks being too steep to get to. However, this did not take away from our trip in any shape or form—just information for travelers looking forward to water activities. The property manager responded quickly and had a great sense of humor (inside coffee joke lol). We are both incredibly blessed to have had such a beautiful weekend. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Communication was good throughout the whole process and understanding what to expect was easy. The place had so many more amenities than a typical stay from a well-stocked kitchen, towels for the hot tub, and hand lotion. The view from the cabin was as pictured and a great location for disconnecting and spending time as an extended family. The location is about 40 mins from town so you want to plan accordingly.

Loved the views, lots of room for our family and my mom and dad. We loved the remote feeling and the privacy. The house had everything we needed. The communication was fantastic from the start and when we needed help it was quickly resolved. Thank you for opening up your home. We had a great time.

My wife and I both had a three day weekend from work and chose to hide out in the mountains for the few days. The cabin is great. The long driveway through the woods, a wonderful welcome package waiting for us. Cabin was very clean, large showers and comfy beds. The high speed internet is a definite bonus with how remote the location is. We used the hot tub, the gas fireplace in the great room, the charcoal grill, and the gas fireplace on the deck. We are already planning a trip back for a longer stay with the rest of our family. 10/10 definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful experience at The Lazy Elk Cabin. We all used the hot tub, played games, had s’mores by the fire, and used the side-by-side to check out the lake. The kitchen is stocked with nice cookware, and all of the basic spices, which made cooking very easy for a large family. The entire cabin was decorated for Christmas, which made for a very cozy stay. We would without a doubt stay here again and recommend to friends/family. Thanks for the great stay!

The cabin was well appointed and our family enjoyed the out of neighborhood experience. The welcome honey & croissants were so tasty & appreciated.
The views are unbelievable. Thank you for making our Polar Express weekend magical for our Grandchildren. The light snow Sunday morning made it EXTRA special.
The property management company went above and beyond sending me items we left behind.
Can’t say enough good things about this whole experience. Thank you!!!!
