Prachtige grote ruime kamer op de hoek van het oude gesdeelte van het hotel. Wat een mooi ingericht echt Engels hotel. Lift aanwezig. Mooie trappen. Voldoende parkeer gelegenheid. Heerlijk gegeten en goed ontbijt. We hebben genoten.

Excellent character with friendly staff, ideally situated in town
Property looks slightly dated in places and needs some financial investment to improve some of the area’s

Staff very friendly
Wi Dow in room was u safe as a hinge was broken
One night no wi e or baileys availsbke. Chap we spoke to his attitude was ‘too bad’ so complained to management. Also they were not giving correct measures of Baileys, ie a single measure should be 50ml and they classed that as a double. I queried it and was told a double was 50ml which is incorrect.

Location good. Breakfast ok but coffee not great.
Tired and scruffy decor. Some lights that didn't work.

The people were very nice

Very easy to find. Very easy check in process, very freindly staff. Room was large and so was the bathroom. Both room and bathroom very clean. Plenty of very hot water. Shower took a bit to get the temperature sorted but all good in the end! Beds and pillows very comfy. Plenty of tea, coffee, sugar etc for my stay. Can't comment on breakfast, as not a breakfast person! Hotel was very quiet but is close enough to walk to shops, beach etc. Ideal location for travelling into Ipswich for work. Would recommend this hotel and would book again when working in the area.
Just a small thing, maybe a few more plug sockets as there aren't that many in the room.

a;; went well

Size of car park and rooms and eating areas were good. Reception and bar girl were friendly and helpful . Evening meal and breakfast was good quality and plentiful. General feeling was old fashioned and quaint, very likeable.
They had run out of 3 Ales on the Sunday evening., shower could have been better., but minor quibble

Location is great and breakfast was enjoyable

Heating not working had to request a electric heater
3.8
Room was as expected which was as we requested (thank you) breakfast was good bathroom a little tired but acceptable.
Just a miner issue with no kettle or T V remote in room on arrival also had to ask for heating which thanks to staff was soon put right.
3.8
The staff went over and above in order to make our stay enjoyable.
The restaurant was very cold. The breakfast service could be improved, especially the toaster situation.

Have stayed here several times and always return. An old hotel with great charm, a bar and excellent free parking in the grounds.
A few more power sockets around the room.

We love staying at The Orwell Hotel because of its location and friendly & welcoming staff but also the character & history it has. Excellent value for money too.
We found the Dining Room & bar area fairly cold to sit in for any length of time, the staff explained the heating can be temperamental as it’s such an old building and recommended warmer places to sit etc, the staff do try to help as much as they can.

Location and character
Having stayed before Breakfast is normally very good , being self service but this time sadly constantly ran out of everything.

Not much - the hotel is dated.
This was my second stay in three months. Both times I have been allocated an old room.
This hotel needs an urgent refurb which I see has started downstairs.
The bathrooms and bedrooms are very dated and the corridors, carpets etc need urgent attention.
Shower curtains should be replaced with modern glass, carpets are worn through and stuck down with tape and doors in the corridors are rotting. While walking down the passage one looks onto unkept roof tops.
3.8
Comfortable, clean, well decorated room.
Bathroom with underfloor heating.
Excellent food.
Ambience.
Price.
Nothing to dislike.

The bad was very comfortable and I slept well. The room and bathroom were clean. The location and price suited our needs.
I felt the bathroom, although perfectly adequate, was dated and tired. As an older person climbing in and out of the bath to shower is becoming more of a concern, which will only increase as I get older!

A lovely old grand hotel that is a little tired round the edges but is great value. Lovely friendly staff. Huge rooms. Have stayed a few times and never disappointed.
Some of the furniture in the lounges needs cleaning. Mainly the arm rests. Could be fixed with removable arm covers. Is a bit off putting when sitting in them and eating.

Nothing.
Receptionist was pleasant and helpful but all 3 rooms - Disgusting
- Checked in - Given Twin Room (Had Booked Double). Retuned to Check in with bags having gone to room. Not advised room was Twin during Check in. Incidentally, 'that room' was awful. Disgusting Bath / Bathroom.
- Asked if we'd like to pay to 'Upgrade' I said No thank you....just a Double Room Would be fine. Went to room...same as above. Disgusting Bath / Bathroom. Room in poor condition, gouged walls. Hand towel with what looked like 'Make-up' on it which I took to the Receptionist at Check-in.
- Returned to Check-in - Given James William Suite. (Third time lucky hopefully), If that hadn't been acceptable we were just going to leave / go home.
Room in same condition as the others. Old, Dated, Valence of bed 'thrown' onto base. Navy Blue Throw over bed heavily stained - disgusting....absolutely awful. Quick shower - Change - Out into town and 'Happy' to leave in the morning. I'm 62 years of age - I've stayed in lots of hotels (as we all have)........but this was an absolute 'Shocker'!

The Orwell retains much of its period charm whilst working her way into the 21st century. The facilities are great quality, comfortable and clean. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We had a very good breakfast
Room was too hot with no way that we found to reduce it.

Clean beds and a perfect location for us but rooms are in real need of uprating

Good variety to choose from
All very good no complaint at all
3.8
Good size room and comfy bed. The entrance to the hotel and all the ground floor was very grand
Tricky shower to maintain a temperature and a shower curtain instead of screen. Fans needed in the room as no air con. Little bits here and there made it feel a lot like the priority is to functions and not so much to guests staying. Room service menu is just the restaurant menu of which nothing you could really eat in your room at a small table

As i have mentioned in a previous revue over all the hotel is a great place to stay but for us things have changed and again for us not for the good an example of this is the main dining room this all ways looks great with round tables and white table cloths but no longer small square tables have replaced them and with no room when you had the Sunday Roast they would bring the main meal with the vegetables in separate dishes but now it is on the main plate as there is no room to put further dishes on totally out of keeping of the main roommate breakfast they were constantly running out of things and you would have to mention there were no eggs or what ever not acceptable ,and on top coffee used to run out as well so it has taken the edge of this stay such a shame but one thing I am glad to say is that the staff are 10 out of 10 nothing is to much trouble for theme are now left in a situation as we do have a further booking for a special occasion next year but not sure if this will be now taken unfortunatly.

Good parking, our room and the location.
Lots of cigarette ends and other litter immediately outside main entrance which was not cleared during our two night stay. Window boxes full of dead plants. The breakfast’s were very disappointing and should have been a lot better. The breakfast items that should have been hot were cold and the plates that should have been warm were also cold.
Every member of staff with whom we had contact in all areas of the hotel were in desperate need of some training.
