Noisy festival!

The staff is great and the location is excellent!

well presented breakfast, very helpful host and a good place to stay handy for Lascaux and general sight seeing. Also good for Santander port and the town's facilities in fact an enjoyable stay.

This does not only apply to this Pousada and maybe because I am English and getting older but I think showers in baths are awkward and to the older generation not without risk of injury..

Loved this property. The owner really went out of his way to make us comfortable and tell us about the local area. The hotel was full of old fashioned charm , it was really clean and comfortable.

Very unique experience. Gorgeous traditional Cantabrian guest house. Lovely, professional and attentive staff. Comfortable beds, excellent room size, quiet and in the perfect location. The breakfast is great for value !

We received a very warm welcome from manager Juanjo, who then provided us with exceptional service throughout our stay - always on hand to provide help and travel information with a smile. We were able to park right opposite in the hotel's own space and then walk to town in minutes, but despite that proximity, the hotel feels like it is 'out of town' ... so quiet! If you can get one of the end balcony rooms they provide a peaceful view of the local landscape and the French windows can be fully opened at night for a cool breeze. In fact all the rooms are well appointed, with very smart bathrooms - and they are cleaned every day. Breakfast covers most people's preferences, with sliced cheese and meat, toast, rolls, sweet pastries & fruit. Juanjo is always on hand for coffee refills and pair of very efficient ladies turn round the tables instantly for the next sitting - an impressive team! Santillana is a busy tourist town and we really valued this great hotel as a marvellous haven to chill out and relax after our sight-seeing and excursions. I have to say that a huge part of the experience should be credited to the manager, who is quite simply outstanding!

Very hard to think of anything to criticise! So this is just 'additional information': The top floor rooms are in the roof and do get a bit hotter than downstairs, but Juanjo kindly provided a fan for us on the hottest days. Also, the Wifi does not extend to the top floor (we tried three different devices), but if you have a European phone plan with 4g you will be fine. You can also sit on the comfy sofa in the nice cool lobby and get a strong signal there.

Juanjo was extremely helpful in assisting us planning our days out. We spoke to him in Spanish (slowly and clearly!) but we heard him speaking in English to other guests. The breakfast was very good and great value with plenty of choice. The location is ideal, being just outside the old town and even though my wife has limited mobility, we were able to walk around the town during the day and back out to dinner at night. Juanjo gave us a parking spot right outside the guesthouse which made life very easy. We also asked in advance for a room on the ground floor which Juanjo kept for us.

The rooms are looking a bit "tired", especially the bathrooms. The shower/bath became very slippery after showering and an anti-slip mat would make accidents less likely.

The location of Posada de la Abadia is great just on the edge of the village and the place is spotless . Parts of the building are very old but it has a modern feeling inside . Our room was beautiful with a good ensuite .
