Cute Ryokan to get a true Japanese experience sleeping on futons, wearing yukatas, and dipping in the onsen. The owners were really nice and offered to pick us up from the station, but we had two car rentals which they paid for parking for us. Night stroll in a quiet neighborhood was amazing compared to the hustle of Tokyo.
Woke up to a beautiful view and only disappointment we couldn't stay longer. The owners called the monkey park in advance for us to make sure we'd see some activity (we didn't ask them to). Highly recommend staying here for a future trip.

Our host went above and beyond to accommodate us and our limited itinerary. He offered to take care of our luggages and drove us straight to the snow monkey park entrance. He even recommended great spots for sake tasting, drinks and snacks. He went and fetched us after park hours went we still weren't back, we didn't even have to ask. Unfortunately, we missed him as we didn't received his messages so give him you number or always check your messages. They lent us yukatas which we used while we leisurely stroll the nice onsen village.
None!! It was great!

Very nice and centrally located family business. The couple that runs it is super nice and accommodating. They picked us up at the station and even gave us a free ride to the monkey park. The ryokan is spacious and has a nice private open air onsen. They also give you yukatas and a key to unlock all 9 public onsens on the main street, dont forget to get a furoshiki from the store to stamp at each bath. The main street and public baths at night were unforgettable! The owners will go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable, I would recommend supporting this small business over a larger hotel! We even forgot a bag when they dropped us at the station and the owner drove back down to deliver it to us within 15 minutes!

The room was very spacious. The Onsen facilities were exceptional and very special. We were not used to sleeping on a futon Japanese style but it was quite comfortable for a short stay. The local village and restaurants were very good.
We didn't find the Japanese wheat pillow comfortable, but that was just that we weren't used to them.

It is a family run ryokan. We were greeted at the train station. The owner gave us a lift to the snow monkey park. His wife cooked an excellent breakfast.
cozy and lovely

The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff was always sure we were comfortable.
The resturaunts around the area were closed at seemingly random times. I assume this is because not many people come during the summer time.

The owners are really nice, super friendly and helpful. They went to the Yudanaka station to pick us up and to drop us off.
The Ryokan is close to the restaurants and the onsens, so it's a small walk
The private outside onsen was amazing. It was cold and raining, so getting into the hot water felt even better
If you pay 1,000 JPY you can get a Japanese breafkast. Man, it was a huge breakfast, I couldn't eat it all.
You have free tea and coffee in the ryokan lobby

The room was very comfortable and the futon beds were great, The room had both japanese chairs and western style armchairs which was lovely. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful and as a bonus spoke great English,, The Onsens in the hotel were really good including an outdoor onsen for private use. Also, we walked to the monkey park in less than 1 hour and the surrounding area was lovely with many local restaurants, We also had a key to get us in to the 9 local onsen. The owner offered to pick us up from the station but we wanted to walk and did this in about 25 minutes, We did however accept a lift back to the station for our early morning train.

The owners went above and beyond - storing our luggage after we checked out and offering us lifts to and from the station. The ryokan was homely and lovely and the private onsen was perfect
Nothing - I liked everything

Everything about this charming Ryokan was sublime. Our room was spacious, warm when outside was freezing, and utterly comfortable - especially the beds. It was our first experience staying in a japanese-style hotel and it exceeded all of our expectations. The onsen facilities were great. They also provide you with everything you require to use the 9 public onsens in the town (gown, overgrown, sandals, towels and, crucially, the key). Read up on onsen etiquette if it's your first time but definitely give it a go. We visited all 9 in the space of about 90 minutes. The Japanese breakfast was delicious and comprehensive (fish, soup, rice, vegetables, pickles etc). The hosts were kind and charming, and spoke English. We will miss them!
Our room overlooked the side of another building which was a bit of a shame.

Everything was about the property was great!

The owners (husband and wife) are incredibly helpful and excellent hosts. The inn is a typical Japanese accomodation in a typical Japanese village and this alone is an authentic experience. Our room was very big and could accomodate 6 people very easily. The onsens are wonderful, particularly the family one. In addition the guests will provide you the key to experience all local onsens at no cost.
Just a minor nuance but it would be nice to have a microwave in the room or in common area. Bear in mind that the nearest convenience store is few kms away so you need a car.

The owners are soooo nice and friendly!!
if there’s more storage space in the room could be better

Breakfast was wonderful, I loved the open-air bath, and the owners were very friendly)
The pillows were too big and hard. It is not a big problem, but would prefer to have a possibility to choose small and soft pillow to sleep.

They were very kind. They picked us up at the train station, drove us to the monkey center and back to the train station. The also helped us get proper shoes for walking in snow. Very lovely and attentive stuff

Really nice Ryokan with a very helpful owner who would pick us up from the station and drive us to the Monkey Park.
