Amazing place, we were upgraded for 2 of our 3 nights as the River Lodge which was incredibly kind of Pepe. Walter the caretaker was absolutely amazing and on hand for anything you may need. A perfect place to stay in Pico Bonito

beautiful property. The owner and staff were always helpful. the river was low while I visited do made it perfect to swim.
limited food options nearby but great to have use of kitchen.
also it was a short walk to the trails with hanging bridge and admission charge
4.5
Beautiful location in Poco Bonito mountains. Property was built very well. Gorgeous open view from the dining room/ lounge. Rooms were large and furnished very well.
The pool was being updated.
The on-site restaurant was closed and the only option seemed to be to purchase food from a grocery store and prepare yourself. No toiletries. Ask for a blow dryer.

The location was very beautiful and serene, once you get to the location., the roads to the location needs work, its a rough road with a lot potholes but once you get to the hotel it’s all beautiful nature. No TV but you don’t really need it because you are surrounded by beautiful views and sounds
The place could be cleaner, specially the kitchen area but it was cleaned during our stay which we appreciated very much. The location of the kitchen and the dining area; having to go outside and upstairs for food was one of the reasons I did not give this facility a 10. It is a beautiful property and with better care it would be a dream vacation spot. The owner Pepe and the host Walter are both very nice, accommodating and so helpful (thank you Pepe, Walter and Maribel)

I loved everything! Coming back to my country is always so special for me but everyone made my trip even more special and I owe so much thanks to Walter for all his help. The beauty of this place is breathtaking and completely worth it.
The long distance up the mountain is difficult especially if your using any public transportation but in the end is still worth it

The hotel is beautifully located just next to rio Cangrejal and close to the entrance of the national park pico bonito. The hotel offers rafting and are helpful with everything. Walter was amazing and helped us with everything from taking us on early bird watching tours to driving us and walking us to restaurants and the chocolate factory nearby. He has an excellent eye and pointed out amazing wildlife that we wouldn’t notice ourselves. He didn’t speak English and we didn’t really speak Spanish, but we wanted to learn anyways and Walter was happy to help. The toucans were in the garden of the hotel, so if you wish to see toucans while eating breakfast, this is the place. The owner Pepe was also amazing and upgraded our room as well as taking us for a coffee and then to the ferry. The rooms were spacious and clean. Will definitely go back!

Pepe, the owner of the hotel, and Walter, the hotel manager, were the most accommodating at big people in the world. The hospitality was 10/10 and the hotel in the jungle was in a great location to take in the jungle view. I would definitely recommend everyone to go there and I would come back there myself.
Nothing to do with the hotel, but there could be a great led options of places to eat at around.
4.5
Everything about this place is unique. First the location is stunning, in a pristine river valley surrounded by dense jungle, about 20 minutes drive from the center of La Ceiba.
The room we got was massive and the beds were super comfy. The tours offered through the hotel are alone a reason to visit: the waterfall hike was hot but rewarding, and the rafting was so much fun!
But above all what made our stay so special was the staff. Walter lives in the property grounds and always goes out its way to make sure we had everything we needed at all times, and was also great to talk to.
We really didn't want to live!
Not exactly a negative but do bear in mind you are in an isolated place and the restaurant only works on weekends. They do let you use the kitchen to cook your own food and there is a restaurant about 1.5k away.
When picking you up the driver will ask if you want to stop at the shop. Take the offer, it's the last supermarket you'll see for a while.

The view is absolutely amazing. We booked two nights and extended for another two, that's how nice it is!
Walter is the best host we have ever met. He goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable.
We can recommend the river hike/rafting and the hike to the waterfall.
There is a small chocolate factory around the corner of the hotel which is worth a visit!

The breakfast was good and delivered when requested.
I booked from another lodge in a nearby location and Walter picked me up. The room I reserved was an economy room in their hotel, however, they provided a fantastic upgrade to the main house on the river. Walter showed me where another restaurant was located which was a very short walk from the house. He also arranged a taxi to take me to the ferry the following afternoon.
Did not see any toucans but read during my stay that Feb and March are breeding and nesting season so perhaps that explains their absence.

The location is incredible, the view from the hotel is fantastic. Walter and Meribel looked after us and were so helpful (despite the language barrier!). Booked a hike through Walter and it was great. There is a kitchen if you want to bring your own food and drink.
Despite what it said on booking.com, there is a restaurant and bar but they were not open (and heard different answers to when they might be), so to get food we had to travel up the road by car to Omega tours every meal. There was nobody else in the hotel, and no staff on site at all, like a ghost town (Walter and Meribel live down the hill and across the road). Basically it's a room in a building and nothing more, but Walter was helpful with anything we needed.

This was not my first time here,
And it won’t be my last

Everything! Hotel Rio is a dreamy destination and the owner and staff are very friendly. The view from the main balcony is amazing and a short walk to the river. We only stayed one night so didn't do any kayaking or white water but our next trip will be extended for sure!!
Time moves to fast, never enough time at a beautiful place such as this.
4.5
Hotel Río is an eco friendly hotel, so it's pretty basic: a bed and a shower. There's no wifi in some parts of the hotel, which is normal because it's literally located in the jungle! It has a nice bar/restaurant with amazing views. It's a place to go and relax, disconnect from technology for a while, go for a hike nearby, do some river activities, enjoy a book... The staff was helpful when it came to guiding us through the hotel grounds. If you're looking for a budget friendly hotel near Cangrejal river this is a great option for you.

The breakfast was filling and tasty but it was the same breakfast every day, however. Everything else exceeded our expectations.
Limited food choices and no filtered water (you have to use bottled water for drinking and this is rather environmentally wasteful).

It was amazing in comfort and uniqueness to say the least. The view from the balcony is price less, the picture although beautiful doesn’t do it justice. All of the amenities are state of the art and stainless steal. The staff is on call at anytime and with an amazing humbled attitude. Watler was just easy going and offered many alternatives of things to do also offered information about the mountain or local animal habitat. The host Pepe speaks impecable English and Spanish. He has a great inviting, positive attitude that compliments the lodge. He is also super attentive and a pleasure to speak to. The whole experience was perfect and you felt right at home in a tropical rainforest. We enjoyed the whitewater rafting and hike in which the guide was available on location.
Word pf advice being food that you’d like to eat from the local supermarket before you drive up the mountain. There’s also a chef available if need be, we didn’t use it because we had 2 chefs with us.
Although everything was great I would definitely ask more questions about the hike. It was very advanced and intense my father although athletic was not able to complete. Other than that. Thank you Pepe!

The place is situated just 20 minutes out of La Ceiba. The river is known for many activities and the surroundings are amazing. The staff of the accommodation is very helpful and friendly. Walter and his family take care of all your wishes and Pepe the owner will go out of his way to help you with things you need.

Absolutely Amazing place, location couldn’t be better. Pepe was so helpful and made us feel home right away. The view is probably one of the best I’ve seen in Honduras. Would highly recommend this place
