Peaceful location. Lots of space rain or shine. Very well equipped with everything needed for a large family and entertaining friends. Amazing pool and lovely hosts! Fresh vegetables and eggs from the garden plot were great too.

there were 3 poor caged dogs (the kennel had only a concrete floor) right next to the house, a fourth dog was on a short leash the whole day in front of the kennel. They often barked in the night. There were caged rabbits and chickens in the garage. the rooms above the garage had a very, very disgusting smell of the animals living right underneath and those rooms were the bedrooms. we left the house after three nights because the smell was intolerable. there was also a musty smell in all the bedrooms. the furniture also had that musty smell. there was only one working electric heater - and we were 7 People in 4 different bedrooms. the whole house was very cold and uncomfortable! there was also a cat, which always tried to enter the room, when we opened the windows or the door. we really, really would not recommend to book that accommodation! we wrote the owner that we want to leave (via whatsapp and booking) but she ignored us and did not texted us back.

Sandra met us at the airport and helped us transport our many bags. We followed her to the property where she showed us around the house. We had plenty of room and each child had their own bedroom. Sandra gave us some rolls, butter, milk and cookies to start our stay. Nearby (3 miles) was a grocer to buy our staples for the week. There is a gardener...Tony...to take care of the property most days and he handles all of the property details. We stayed 10 nights and he was always available to get items from the vast garden or deal with home issues. The house is conveniently located for easy access to attractions and Sandra may also be able to help with a rental car. One is required to travel the island from here. The house is in a quiet neighborhood area with views of the ocean and quite peaceful. We are quite sad to be leaving the home we have grown to love.

I’m not sure if it’s common but there is no clothes dryer here. It seems most folks use the clothes line. Not really a negative but we are accustomed to a dryer. Also although it didn’t bother us most nights there are barking dogs in the area. One night they seemed to bark all night. There are dogs/cats/rabbits/chickens/geese on the property taken care of by the gardener but if you don’t like animals you should be aware. We made friends with the kitties and invited them in the house periodically. Also there is no spatula in the kitchen and none at the grocery store. I get the feeling they don’t use them on Sao Miguel. Lastly the only real negative is the comfort of the bed in the master suite. The mattress is in need of an upgrade.
