The cabin is beautiful and very comfortable. The lodge is well-maintained, offering scenic views, peaceful sounds, and incredibly nice people. My partner and I stayed here for five days following a trekking holiday to relax and reconnect, and it was exactly what we needed. The staff was not only caring but also attentive, genuinely listening to our feedback and making small changes daily to enhance our experience. We had an amazing time.
Be aware that there are lots of bugs around. Given that it's a wet forest, it is to be expected, but I was still surprised by the number of mosquito bites I received. It didn't help I took little precaution about it, so a lot of it i's my fault.
Another point to be aware is access to town. Driving in is not always possible (only with 4x4 as you need to cross a few ankle high streams), and town is around 20min drive away. Personally this enhanced the holiday, as I wanted to get away from it, but you should be aware

Vriendelijke ontvangst en behulpzaamheid van alle personeel. Erg mooie groene omgeving met vele vogels. Mooie bungalow met terras. Goed ontbijt en dinermogelijkheden.Laarzen beschikbaar voor wandelingen. Mooie wandelingen dichtbij.

Sacha Urco Lodge is owned and run by Sol and her Biologist husband Juan. It is set in 150 hectares of beautiful primary forest with trails to walk within. We ate a delicious home cooked meal there on our first night and breakfast was equally good.
We walked trails within the reserve and saw monkeys, toucans and lots of other lovely birds.
Our accommodation was beautiful, made from locally sourced natural resources.
The natural beauty of the lodge and surroundings, and the personal service by the owners makes it a wonderful place to stay.
Everything was great.

Accomodation are exceptional. Well built chalets, large room, large terrace, large bathroom. Lots of natural light. Very clean. Lodge right near a large expanse of preserved forest, several hikes available departing from the lodge. Excellent food, many organic products grown in the kitchen garden. The owner is super helpful.

Breakfast was great and location was away from town of Mindo . It was secluded and really nice to get away
The Owner Sol was very helpful and a great cook along with her assistant. The lodge was organised and very quiet and if you want to see Hummingbirds there are hundreds of them and very friendly. I would stay here again maybe next year on our way to the coast

the location was amazing, and the staff was very kind. they have gone above and beyond to preserve this beautiful forest
P.S make sure to try something with their local cheese
the accounting at the end did not make sense to me, however they followed up with me and amended the issue ASAP.
Really appreciated it.

This is near the end of a valley away from Mindo- as such very peaceful and "away from it all" - however of you want a meal in Mindo you have to get a taxi and go 25 mins down a bumpy road. The cabana 2 was lovely and it really could sleep 5 if a family ie parents and 3 children- NB the steps to the loft beds are steep. The walks from there are lovely- but on this occasion the manager was new and found it difficult to direct us- he didnt know the paths. Also the tours one could get- he didnt know how to access them ( apart from the butterfly farm) and so we organised them ourselves out of Mindo. Breakfasts good.
It gets very damp in a cloud forest...! we had to dry out clothes that were hanging inside on the balcony when there was sun. there was no fan downstairs in the cabin to do this and we brought our own washing line and pegs. As above although the new manager was a very nice man he didnt know all we needed and his boss the owner who was sick didnt even avail herself at a distance to answer questions. We saw her finally the last morning of a 4N stay.

The cabins were beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The breakfast and dinner were limited and homemade. Not a huge selection but excellent and accommodating to vegetarians and kids. Flexible on schedule.

The good part - the hotel is situated in a lovely place, with beautiful views over the river and of forests, there is a pond. The staff was very polite and helpful. The food was OK, enough for me, not sure if the same could be said about a healthy man. For breakfast slight modification of what you get in most any hotel in Ecuador (a.i. . instead of just bread with your eggs empanadas or llapingacha), plus fruit, a juice and tee/coffee). The shower is abundant and hot, the bed comfortable. The room was just in front of bird feeders so I could observe some really nice birds including tulcans and tulcanets, there is also feeders for hummingbirds - which on the other hand is what you would find most anywhere you stayed in Mindo. In the early morning hours agutis can be seen on the grounds.
I've stayed in a few places in Mindo, including an actual lodge, this one was the least favourite and offered less added value.
The hotel is not cheap by Ecuadorian standards. Nevertheless the room where I stayed constantly smelled of food, starting with breakfast eggs and finishing with whatever was cooking for dinner service) as it is above the kitchen and dining area. Not sure if there is anyone who dreams to come to forest destination and then stew in kitchen fumes all day, and as to restfulness - all the traffic of dining area also almost non stop, if nobody eating then cleaning up. Of course that only extends to the double room, the cabins would not have the same problem.
The walking opportunities - the only path that seemed to be fully available and maintained was the one by river, a short one. The path to the top of mountain seemed to have been abandoned, in any case it was blocked by a rope presumably indicating that it was not open for use. Similarly closed gates, ropes. electric and barb wire etc. closed passage in most places where one would like to go for a walk on the property.
With above in mind, going to this quite remote place does not seem to be worth it on its own merit and certainly not great as basis for exploring Mindo. It's 20 minutes in car to to Mindo, 7 dollars minimum each way in taxi, more than an hour if you walk - while it is not a difficult walk (no uphill), its going by other farms and not forest actually, also be ready to wade 2 small rivers crossing the road in the last km.

Lodge in the jungle near the Mindo river. Big wooden bungalo with the balcony, with WiFi, hot water and so on. Amazing handmade food. Many hummingbirds and other birds near the lodge. Walking trails in the jungle and among the river.

The property is gorgeous and very secluded. It is about 6km down a side an unpaved side street in the first beside a river and several hiking paths.
The staff. Mateo was awesome.
Very comfortable and secluded rooms.
The location might not be for everyone. It cost $6 per trip into Mindo, but I thought I was worth it. I would definitely come back.

Sacha Urco is beautiful and intimate with just 4 rooms, right on the river, with lovely grounds and hiking trails, from easy to challenging. Our room was very charming and comfortable, the included breakfast was a delicious home cooked meal including fresh juice, eggs, and home baked bread. We enjoyed two additional meals there during our stay, both delicious and lovingly prepared. The Manager Mateo is a gem, always totally helpful and accommodating, with attention to every detail. He welcomed us at our 1am arrival, and had breakfast ready for our 5:30am birding mornings. He was a wealth of information about the area, from birds to activities to restaurants, and genuinely engaged in welcome conversations with us. He made the Mindo portion of our holiday truly delightful.
The road to and from town was horribly rutted and rough, due to huge rains early in the year. It took about 20-25 minutes one-way, and including crossing through water 3 times. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is required to make the trip. Sacha Urco is truly a “getaway” destination, and worth it.
