House had a heavy musty odor and lots of mildew in the lower level. Had to move my guests to a hotel and both my host and VRBO were very difficult to deal with.
3.7
The location is ideal. It's quiet with a beautiful view. The house is very old and doesn't have central ac. The window units kept it cool, but were very loud. The bottom floor is very musty and damp. The moccasin made up for a lot, but it is very expensive for what you get.

Booking, communication, location & affordability made this booking smooth as silk! After a very challenging right months of medical issues that nearly claimed me, a quiet weekend fishing with family & friends was in order. We look forward to staying again, if we don’t move to Stonington permanently!
3.7
The Stonington house was wonderful, it was just as the listing noted, location and views are awesome, and I really appreciated the very well-supplied kitchen, including ice maker! The space is great, separation of floors gave us all some space to spread out. Furniture and appliances are new, mattresses are excellent. Thank you so much, we are looking forward to another visit!

A great relaxing place
We were up there for a wedding. Had plenty of room, great views, and very comfortable. My parents, brother, wife and I would highly recommend this house!

Wonderful relaxing getaway
We had a wonderful family vacation, it was just what we needed. Picturesque views right off the living / dinning area. We were fortunate enough to see the super moon over the weekend while sipping drinks on the front deck. Very close to everything you need. Would definitely stay again.
3.7
We were disappointed with the overall appearance of the unit. All the trim was peeling and the deck needed staining. Curbside appeal was lacking.
The ground floor level was very musky despite constantly running the dehumidifier. We immediately advised planned guest to stay away. They would have been sleeping on the lower level.
All windows other than the two picture ones needed cleaning badly. All doors were difficult to open due mainly to humidity resulting in swelling. The screen door to the deck was missing a roller and very difficult to maneuver.
The stairs to the main floor were steep and for us in our seventies, to be safe, required side stepping to descend.
AC worked, but the inside standup units were very noisy and had to be running since most windows were difficult to open.
We were disappointed with this rental, however we did enjoy stay because the view and location was good.

We arrived after dark and the porch light was not on, which made the house difficult to find. Not a huge deal, but when we attempted to turn the light on ourselves, nothing happened. We thought maybe a light bulb had just recently burnt out, but the nest in the light fixture says otherwise.
The downstairs/entry level was much warmer than upstairs and muggy. The higher temp was OK for me, but the other guests would not have been able to sleep on the lower level (even though there were tall oscillating fans in both bedrooms). We believe there was a third portable A/C unit downstairs, but we did not discover it until the day before we left, as it was in a corner between/behind couches.
The downstairs shower did have great water pressure, but a slight leak. I just kept a small towel on the floor and it wasn't a safety issue. The downstairs dehumidifier beeps loudly and a "Empty" message blinks when it needs to be emptied. It is easy to remove the tray, but emptying the tray could be challenging for some as the tray is not light when full. It does need to be emptied often (every 6-8 hours) so that it runs continuously. Even with it running continuously, we did notice a damp/musty smell. We did not have a bug issue.
There was a washing machine and dryer, but the dryer was $1.75/load. Our group was three adults and a toddler, and we stayed a week. There were four bath towels (total) provided in the bathrooms; we did not see any extras on sight anywhere. However, we also did not reach out to the owner for additional towels.
To reach the main floor, there is a narrow, steep, full flight of stairs. The handrail does not extend the entire length of the stairs, as there is a storage closet at the top of the stairs. The handrail (a 2"x4"?) is attached very close to the wall, making it harder to use than normal round handrails. Would not recommend for seniors.
Although the temps were mid-70s to mid-80s during our stay, the upstairs needed the two portable A/C units ran continuously to keep the level cool. One of the A/C units stopped working and the owner brought a repairman within a few hours. Turns out it was just a blown fuse.
There was plenty of tableware and cookware. Additional tupperware, tin foil, and baggies would have been nice for saving excess cooked food.
All doors to the outside stick, so we used as few as possible. So while this location had a great view, we only enjoyed it from the inside.

The house is exactly like the post. It’s in a nice spot, saw a beautiful moon rise over the bay. House is older in avg. condition. Pay laundry was chintzy.

Overall the location was fantastic, very close to all the touristy hot-spots but far enough to be pretty quiet. Awesome little seafood shop is just a 5 minute walk. We had a fantastic clambake during our stay. The kitchen has everything you need for a week's stay.
The upstairs (bed, bath, living room, kitchen) were very clean and comfortable. The downstairs (bed, bath, family room with tv, bunk bed bedroom) was very musty and damp. There was a dehumidifier in the family room that wasn't running when we got there. We turned it on and emptied it periodically, which helped some, but it really should be running all the time. The downstairs shower stall leaked water onto the floor no matter which way you pointed the shower head. I would recommend bringing towels and linens. The listing says they are provided, but we were only left 4 sets of towels and we clearly registered 5 people for a week. So we had to buy more to get us through the week. Also, there is a washer and dryer, but it has a pay dryer. So if you're going to need to use it, bring quarters. We also bought bigger sheets for the queen bed. It was very comfortable, but probably needed deep pocket sheets as they kept coming off.
Overall, it's a cute little house in a great location. It just needs a little attention to those details mentioned above.

We usually rent in Maine over the summer but due to travel restrictions we decided to stay closer to home for some seaside time (we're from New Haven county). Nice, older home in super quiet neighborhood, beautiful views-- would regularly see 3-4 heron from deck. We like to cook and Sea Well Seafood market just across the marsh was convenient and had a fantastic selection of fresh seafood at very reasonable prices. Property was great home base for Mystic, beaches and Watch Hill. Will return and stay longer next time. Thank you!

First, I don't take giving a bad review lightly. This is somebody's livelihood. However, in this case I feel obligated to give this review. Margaret was very nice, and was very easy to communicate with... UNTIL we had problems shortly after checking in. She met us there and I immediately noticed a very musty, damp smell on the first floor. We innocently thought it would be solved with opening the windows and letting in some fresh air. When my daughter was upstairs showering I noticed that the shower was dripping into the laundry room below causing a pretty large puddle all over the floor. The fact that the laundry room seemed to be the hub of the smell was no coincidence. The perimeter of the room had a black substance that appeared to be mold. So my headache and my asthmatic son already needing his inhaler within the first 60 minutes was a bad sign in staying any longer. Shortly before the finding of the leak I heard yells from the kids upstairs that there were ants all over the main floor kitchen/living room area. Not a big deal... I texted Margaret telling her of the ants and I did hear back from her asking where the ants were. And that was the last I heard from her for a long while. I texted her many times after about the issues of the ants and the leak and the unbearable smell, and she never got back to us. My husband even left a voicemail explaining the situation and that we would have to leave because of the smell. Still Margaret did not get back to us. I actually did not hear back from her until the next afternoon around 1pm... almost 20 hours later. She proceeded to tell me that my accusations were unfounded and that she has rented all year without any complaints. This I know to be untrue because the people that left before us complained about the smell and the bugs. Another thing to note; although the house is listed as having A/C, only the upstairs does indeed have A/C. In our case the weather was expected to be 105 degrees, and although the downstairs was noticeably cooler, the nights would have been unbearable with no A/C. It just would have been nice to have that included in the listing. I did give the property 2 stars because it was in a nice location, and would be a nice house if it was properly maintained.

The home was in a great location. Walking in on the basement level, there were two bedrooms, sitting area and bath. It was very damp and musty. A dehumidifier should be run always. It played havoc with allergies. One of the air conditioners quit within 24 hours, there were a lot of bugs. I would not stay again if updates were not done. The top level was nice, the furniture was new and comfortable.

Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood. Near all Mystic attractions.

Our week long stay was good: fabulous view and location near Mystic town. Nice outdoor deck, brand new living room furniture, and home was overall clean upon check in. Quiet neighborhood. The home is old and needs more work. The steep stairway connecting the two levels is dangerous, some stairs warped and a hand rail that begins 1/3 of the way from the top. Not safe for anyone, but especially treacherous for seniors! The basement shower leaked a bit, and on the final day the upstairs bedroom a/c seeped through to the level below. In addition, the owner needs to communicate better and be more aware of particulars. Weeks before, we asked to move back our check in/check out dates by one day, and she kindly allowed that we could check in Monday vs. Sunday. However, she claimed not to know or have approved our request to extend, when my email request weeks before was clear—including my identifying the specific check out date. As a result, we had to secure a hotel for the last night and she refused to issue a refund. Also, she “allowed” that we could use the washer/dryer for one load of laundry, saying it was only for the use of the housekeepers. However, the VRBO site lists washer/dryer as an amenity for tenant use. In the future, we recommend owner pay more attention to details and be clearer about intent in order to avoid the misunderstandings we experienced.

Property was equipped. Wish we had a longer stay. :-)

We enjoyed the house. Was a great place to stay.
The owner was very nice and great to work with. She was very responsive to our needs. We wanted a dehumidifier and she brought one right away. She wanted to make sure everyone was happy with the house. I recommend the house as a great choice for your stay in New London or Mystic, Connecticut. Also it is convent to Newport, Rhode Island.

Very relaxing stay
My family and I has the best time staying in this home. Margaret was so accommodating to my last minute request. The home was clean spacious and fully stocked. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The grocery store and lots of great restaurants were a hop, skip and a jump away. There was fresh seafood for us to prepare for dinner within walking distance. I ate breakfast on the deck overlooking the water every morning. I was so relaxed in the peaceful quiet and there were many beaches close by--Misquamicut was beautiful. After a busy day out and about we would come back home to stare out over the water and eat ice cream! Margaret was great, answered all of our questions and gave us great info about the local activities. I cannot wait to go back.
