Front stairs are concrete, uneven and tilted, entry to bedroom by bathroom is NOT LABELLED as hazardous and should be. Repeated entry down to that room continues to offer unsteadiness. A lawsuit is in the future, and probably really injuring some klutz like me! PLEASE go look at the situation before someone gets really hurt.Photos of the entry to bedroom by bathroom are available, not sure I sent to you today? This is a serious risk there, that you cannot see coming, and also the from stairs. Someone is going to be hurt more than I already was. Kathryn

The cottage suited our needs very well! It was well supplied with everything we needed. The laundry machines were especially helpful. The only problem we had was with the lockbox. It was difficult to open initially and we couldn't make it work at all on departure. We left the key inside the house and texted the management about the problem. Overall, the cottage was a pleasure; so much more so than a motel or hotel would have been.

Just the right size for us and dog. Great yard, 5 minute drive to several beaches, covered porch so we could sit outside in the rain, close to everything going on in several towns up the coast. Property manager answered right away when I had a question, just all around cozy cottage. We will definitely stay here again!

Wonderful little two bedroom house with a nice Hollowell family connection. Short walk to Seal Rock beach and local shops cafes. Especially nice is Karl's wood bear carvings. Could use a picnic table in the yard but otherwise perfect!

Wonderful little home equipped with (almost) everything one might need and a great value. (I couldn't find an ironing board.)

This is a small cabin that was fine for just two of us but I would hesitate to book it for a larger group. The single bathroom is super small and would benefit from an exhausting fan. We kept the window open to reduce the mugginess of the home. The beds were just ok, we didn't get a great nights sleep, but it was fine. It's a cute place but in need of a remodel/refresh/update and better ventilation. There was not easy access to the beach from the home but the very large yard was a nice amenity.

The Heron Beach Cottage was just right for the two of us. We chose to use only one of the two bedrooms. Comfortable bed. Small and clean bathroom with plenty of towels. Kitchen was well stocked, including a good variety of utensils, pots and pans, and tableware. Stable wi-fi. The beach was within walking distance, even for us seniors, though the weather this time was quite unpredictable and dramatic - from sun to rain to hail and back to sun! We loved it! The staff at Ocean Odyssey Vacation Rentals provided all the necessary details as needed. We would stay here the next time we visit the Oregon coast.

Uneven ground, concrete steps of differing heights,
unmarked steps indoors.
Contrary to web pix, no view.
Not well cleaned.

Loved it. Dirt road, no neighbors no traffic. No directions that the neighbor would be taking out the trash, until she walked up while I was on the porch and met her. Trash can under the kitchen sink needs to be larger. No extra garbage bags (we left a new box). Garbage under the sink was left with garbage from the last tenant. (obviously an oversight but it was gross). You need reflective tape going into the back bedroom. Two steps down from the hallway is the bedroom. Room was dark I didn't realize I had to take two steps down. I almost fell. Maybe a night light near the doorway or something reflective of the drop off. Lovely place. Very cozy. Not comfortable with more than 2 ppl.personally speaking. The outdoor patio chairs were already locked up-weather was beautiful! We could have used them. Thanks for a relaxing 4 days. :)

Super cute, big yard, all the things in all the cupboards, we had a great stay and we didn't need anything more. Very happy with all of it.
Thank you for a great stay.

We use to live in Newport so old, small cottages are something we appreciate. The cottage had everything we needed and it was in a beautiful location. Thankfully we reserved this location before the upstairs was prohibited and my girls absolutely loved it. If fact they loved it so much that they moved into one room once we got home. Internet was tricky but my son is a tech wiz so he reset it and it worked fine after that. This vacation definitely rekindled our love for this place and the tight living space reminded us how much space we could live without. Thanks for a memorable and AFFORDABLE experience. We'd definitely rent this house again.

I'm not going to rate the house as we where not able to stay there. They had to move us. I will rave about odyssey as working with them was easy and always with a smile. Thanks odyssey for taking care of my family.

This home was fantastic! If you are looking for a family home to stay in, look no further. It’s homey and family oriented. It would be an amazing home to bring kids with as the upstairs is an amazing playroom and bedroom. The yard is also incredible and large! A very short drive to seal rock state park with has AMAZING tide pools. Would definitely recommend this home.

Close to Seal Rock beach and excellent shops. You get exactly what is advertised. Cute comfortable cottage.

Great! Great location, short walk to beach. Not too close to the hustle of town (Newport). If you want luxury, and push-button automaticity, maybe this isn’t for you. If you want reality, originality, and quiet, this is it….it was perfect for us. Loved the porch area with gas grill, and it’s a dog-friendly house. I hope the owners never sell it. I would rent again.

Overall this was a great rental. It was clean and comfortable and in a good location. The kitchen was very well stocked. Our only complaint was the very steep narrow stairs up to the room that had the twin beds. Some of the older folks in our party decided against staying in that room once we saw how odd the stairs were.

We’d come back!
We loved staying at Seal Rock! The location was perfect for meandering down the coast to the dunes and up the coast to Newport and even Lincoln City. And the tide pools just across 101 were incredible during the minus tide while we were there!
I was a little frustrated at the beginning of the booking process-the management company didn’t answer their phones. In the end everything worked fine from billing to check-in. Just be patient-We booked through VRBO, and paid a fee to VRBO and then the rest was billed through the management company closer to check-in. We received several emails with good instructions-it just took me a bit to catch on to their system.
Now for the house itself…It worked for our family of 6, but the house is really better suited for 4 people in terms of table seating and living room seating. The owners generously give their guests access to camp and beach chairs along with sand toys and a few balls/frisbees. There was an ample supply of paper products, towels, and soaps as well as spices and oils in the kitchen. We appreciated the heads up about the dryer burning clothes and air dried our nicer things. We definitely had a few items in every load stained - some came out with treatment after we returned home. Based on finding one item stuck between the rotating drum and the side of the dryer, it seemed to us to be a mechanical issue rather than the dryer running too hot. The stairs were very steep and needed caution even for our active teens, however, it was well worth it for the extra beds!
We loved our time here and appreciated the owners making their beach cottage available and budget friendly! We’d definitely come back!

Great place to stay on the coast!
This place was awesome! Our kids loved that they had there own place upstairs and the bedrooms were perfect for what we needed. This place is a stones throw away from some of the best tide pools on the Oregon coast. The house was clean and had all that we needed to enjoy our vacation.

This property is in a great location. However it definitely needs some TLC and a little upgrading. New mattresses for sure but it will fit two couples OK and it is priced for the age.

Leading up to this trip the rental company was uncommunicative and did not charge my credit card for weeks causing worry that our reservation was in jeopardy. I tried calling and emailing multiple times and never got a real person on the phone to address this, just automated emails. They finally charged my card about a week before our stay despite reserving and attempting to pay nearly two months in advance.
Upon arrival to the property, we had to vacuum and clean surfaces because they were dirty and dusty which was very disappointing since we came to relax, celebrate a birthday, and enjoy being with our 6 month old baby. This also put into question the cleanliness of the entire place such as linens and other areas. The place was dirty despite a hefty cleaning fee.
The front bay windows have a nice view but it’s obstructed because two of the three windows have leaks between the double window panes and moisture and grime prevent you from seeing anything clearly.

Pros: Well stocked with kitchen essentials, plenty of warm blankets and nice towels, quiet neighborhood, big yard
Cons: Garbage/Recycling bins were not marked,
Dryer burns clothes, no dishwasher, stairs are dangerous for small children,
Overall for the price it was ok, however we probably would not stay there again. The house is very very small, sleeps 6 but not comfortably. For a family of 6-with teenagers it was just too tight, especially on stormy days.

Make sure to do your research with this rental company and communicate well. After booking online, I heard nothing. Finally, the week before we were supposed to leave, I messaged them bc we had no check-in info whatsoever. Right after, the company called me three times but I was at work so I couldn’t answer. I called when I got home from work only to find out that they had double-booked. Mind you, we booked back in February and this is March. No one had ever contacted me to let me know this. Only after I reached out did they let us know this. So, they offered us a different rental in a similar area with upgrades, which were great. Hot tub, bigger place, etc. I agreed to this change and then awaited info for check-in. Again, we received nothing. I waited until the day we were supposed to check-in and contacted them again. Right after this, they emailed me check-in info. This entire process was very perplexing to me as I have never had this happen before through either booking service.
When we arrived to our now switched rental, from the outside it looked a bit scraggly and under construction. This was a bit disconcerting but the inside was very nice and updated. Seems the outside isn’t quite finished yet.
When my husband and I were getting ready to go to bed, we noticed our bed sheets were very dirty. There were stains that looked like blood on one of the pillowcases and hair, crumbs, stains, etc on the sheets themselves so we stripped the bed and washed those, replacing them with a clean set we found in the closet.
Other then these issues, everything else was fine. The rental itself is much bigger then it looks and nicely laid out. The location is fantastic and we really enjoyed the hot tub.

The Heron Beach Cottage is a cute, cozy, comfortable place to stay near Seal Rock beach which is a fun beach for tide-pooling and bird-watching. The house was very clean and well-stocked. The only thing that was less than cozy was the lack of heat in the bathroom. We initially had problems communicating with the property manager, Ocean Odyssey Vacation Rentals, because they did not answer the phone number listed by VRBO or return messages left at that number or respond to messages left through the VRBO website. However, when we called VRBO, we were given another phone number for Ocean Odyssey and the contact we dealt with at that number was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully this difficulty was just a temporary one.

First off, the property: it's a cute house with a fully stocked kitchen and a mammoth yard that was popular with Steller's jays and juvenile robins during the mornings. It gets very dark at night and you can see so many stars! There's a swing, four plastic Adirondack chairs, a nice deck, and a grill (which we didn't use but it looked gigantic under its cover). The street is very quiet, as is the whole neighborhood. There's beach access about 50 yards south on 101 (look for a path with stairs by the RV Cove sign on the west side of the road).
The living room is small with no coffee table, but plenty of seating (I loved the window seat--so warm and cozy in the afternoon) and the tv (one of three in the house!) is quite large, at least by our standards. The DVD system baffled us, but maybe those with more experience with such things would have no trouble with it.
The bed in the main bedroom (the only one we used) is a little soft but still functional. The bathroom is on the small side but, again, functional. The main bedroom has a screen in the window but the second bedroom on the main floor does not. (In general, most of the windows don't open and there's no screen door--a little annoying for a fresh air addict.)
The twin beds are in a converted attic space--the room up there is large enough (though the ceilings slant), but the stairs to get there are very steep and also narrow. I banged my shin on the stairs, and my partner worried about smashing his head on the descent. If I had agile short children who regularly climbed trees and ladders, I wouldn't worry about them sleeping up there (though I bet it's hot in the height of summer), but I'd never opt to sleep there myself, nor would I put any clumsy or distracted children up there.
It was challenging to get the key code or any sort of assurance that my second payment had been received by Ocean Odyssey. I emailed and called about half a dozen times before I finally connected to someone in the office there who, happily, had no trouble giving me the code and confirming payment. Admittedly, the voicemail wasn't working on my phone, but I had given my email address several times over. That bit of uncertainty was a little bit of pre-vacation stress I could have done without. But we're all stressed these days and, it all worked out in the end. Let me add one star to that "communication" item.
The beach at Seal Beach was better than expected--look for pelicans on the rocks!

This property was perfect for our family size and needs. We have 3 kids ages 14, 11 and 8. The 11 and 8 year old were able to use the twins upstairs and the 14 year old got his own bed downstairs. I think the stairs would be a challenge for anyone with a toddler and should consider bringing a gate to keep them off the very steep stairs. We were provided everything we needed including outdoor toys for the massive yard and a fire pit including wood (though we didn't use that). Our only downfall for this property was that it felt like it could benefit from a deep clean throughout to address the dust and cobwebs. Understandably a house in the woods will have indoor friends (spiders), so extra attention to underbed areas - where kids like playing hide and seek - and so on would have been really nice. Otherwise, an incredibly lovely home that we would love to visit again. Could easily walk to the beach or be there in about 3min by car as well as lots of local shops/eateries within walking distance as well.

Perfect for our small family. Very clean, well appointed. Great yard - very private. Only 2 suggestions - time to upgrade the furniture in the sitting room and also would be good to have open shelf in kitchen for dry goods. Property management was exceptional.
