Gloriously, unselfconsciously retro. Shiny wallpaper, striped carpets, and lots and lots of dark wood-grain plastic. Teeny-tiny elevators but it's worth the wait. The room even has kind of a retro smell, but in a good way - some kind of robust industrial-strength cleaning products they use, none of this delicate 21st-century stuff. Just like the bad old days except the staff are pleasant and the food is present. The room was huge. Great wellness center in the basement.

Restaurant seemed to keep different hours than what was posted, and was closed for a wedding on Saturday; weddings happen of course, but advance notice would have been nice. Massage in the wellness center was lackluster.

We booked a room but got an apartment with 2 rooms, so it was larger than expected. Toilet and bathroom was separated which was great and unusual for a hotel room. Hotel and room was clean, breakfast was excellent, price seemed to be lower than in similar hotels - during our stay we found out the probable reason.

The room did not have air conditioning and had a tilt window with minimal opening, preventing ventilation of the room. During hot summer days the room heats up, and although the night was chilly outside we were boiling in the room because we were not able to properly open the window and the tilt window did not let in any fresh air, only the huge noise from the street. So a good sleep was impossible. Hotel's response to a similar review was: - They could have asked for the window to be opened by hotel staff - How were we supposed to know about that option when there was a sign posted on the window explicitly stating that the windows cannot be opened? - They could have asked for a room with A/C - We did not need an A/C, and we could not have known when we made the booking that the windows cannot be opened, in all hotels there is either a window that can be opened or there is A/C (or both).

It was our third stay in Hotel Metropol and it is always a pleasure. Rooms are spacious, Spa centre is really nice, breakfast is good and various. Thank you for the hospitality, especially to manager Ariadna. Hope we will back soon.

Toilet ventilation and lamp are controlled by one one switch, they must be turned on and turned off together. Maybe we could use 2 different switch because the fan is noisy. There is no acceptable power supply around the table.
