As enjoyable as ever

If traveling to Luxor while in Egypt this villa is a great find. The house is very nice includes many rooms for guests with a great local style. The food was excellent with many options for vegetarian and meat dishes. We did several meals at the house and enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere. The location is within walking distance to local restaurants to eat at we enjoyed one across the street where the owner Ali brought us on a sunset dinner boat tour. For local tours of temples and tombs you can get either transport by car or a 5 min boat trip across the Nile. You are able to book tours with the house guide if you need assistance. During our stay Syed was alway available to help with anything we needed while at the house truly a pleasure to have around and made the trip very enjoyable no worries about meals he would set everything up and assist whenever we needed him.

Do not expect a brand new villa with top of the art heating, cooling and lighting. Instead, you will find a modest but typical villa, which is sufficient for a stay of several days, and help you to feel as an explorer of the last century with the Nile just in front of you and the super monuments and tombs not far behind you.
Rather than the roof top at the 4th level (although climbing stairs is an excellent cardio training for the visit of the Valley of the Nobles) and rather than the swimming pool (separated from the villa by a street), the reason why you should book this villa is the staff managing it under the supervision of Khairy.
Khairy will organize your visits and answer all your needs, Saheed will discreetly take care of you all day long, and Mahmoud will provide good breakfast and dinners, so that, at the end, your only constraint will be to choose among the many incredible sites that you must visit.
Whether you are a group of friends or a family, we recommend you to contact the host Christopher who will ensure a good communication from your booking to your arrival, before you pass in the safe and professional hands of Khairy and of his team

Stay at Riverbank House and it'll be the best holiday you'll ever have. This spacious home on the banks of the Nile is a tranquil oasis. However, the real stars of Riverbank are the staff who will take care of you. Nothing is too much trouble and the chef's meals are all from fresh local produce made daily. The house manager knows the best sites to visit and is a mine of information. All you have to do is to relax and you'll be taken care of!

Wow! What a lovely time we had while visiting the Riverbank House! The house exceeded our expectations and the pictures couldn’t possibly do it justice. The communication with Christopher before our arrival was easy and clear. We were blown away by the beauty of the house and it’s incredible view of the Nile from the rooftop!
The meals prepared by the cook were top notch! I’m not kidding when I say that they were some of the best meals of our lives. Khyry really made our experience special! He came along as our guide and made our kids (3 boys, 10 and under) feel so comfortable. He had the ability to keep their interest on each topic and made it so much fun! He is a wealth of information on the many incredible sites around Luxor! Khyry was also able to facilitate anything we needed as far as transport to and from the airport as well as finding a great driver for us to Aswan. We will never forget our time spent at the villa! Thanks from the Smigelski crew for such a warm and wonderful stay!

Our stay at Riverbank House was one of the highlights of our Egyptian holiday. Views of the Nile from the rooftop terrace were spectacular and the meals prepared for us were delicious. The villa was comfortable with charming character and a great base for exploring Luxor. Khyry provided invaluable assistance for our sightseeing, meals and activities. If you are travelling with a group or family, then I would recommend Riverbank House.

Pros: 5 rooms, 5 baths, 3 stories. Beautiful roof top deck to take advantage of the view of the Nile, especially in the evening. Private swimming pool in an enclosed courtyard, with chairs and tables complete with umbrellas. Area around the pool has bathrooms, a small "garden" and nice lighting. A guide is available for trips to Valley of the Kings and other places; Khyry (guide) speaks English quite well and tries hard to make the excursions interesting. Comfortable bed (the room we stayed in is all I can vouch for), air conditioning, ceiling fans, seating area out front. Location on the West Bank of the Nile, pretty much right on the river. Option to have meals provided for a fairly nominal amount of money. We took advantage of the dinner on day 1 of our stay and it was well prepared and presented. The owners were always responsive (they are not in Egypt) and willing to assist in all requests. It was a pleasure doing business with them.
CONS: The only air conditioning on the lowest level is in the two bedrooms; the kitchen and living area do not have air conditioning. If you want to prepare your own food, the kitchen can be uncomfortably hot. The only TV is on the lowest level in the living room. If you want to watch TV in comfort you're pretty much out of luck; Luxor is hot most of the year, and the lack of air conditioning makes it uncomfortable. I'm not even sure the TV or cable works. The cooking utensils, pots and pans are not the best, and by the 4th day of our stay we were fighting ants that were invading the kitchen. The owners arranged to have someone available to clean dishes and maintain the kitchen, but the dishes often had to be washed again. We used one room and bath; there were only two bath towels--no hand towels or wash cloths--in our bedroom/bath combination. Upon searching all the bedrooms I found a washcloth and hand towel in one of the downstairs bedrooms. The sink in our bathroom did not have a functional stopper; a minor inconvenience for most but I wear contact lenses and need to close the sink drain to insert and remove contacts so I don't lose them. The faucets on the sink were lose; the towel rack was barely attached to the wall. The shelf over the bathroom sink was drooping down and could easily fall at any moment. Overall quality of workmanship was poor throughout the house; maintenance was not the best either.
I recommend it as a good place to stay on the West Bank, but don't expect 4+ star quality.

I am a seasoned traveller but Egypt had so far remained outside my radar so it was with great excitement I accepted an invitation to spend a week at Riverbank House in Luxor. It turned out to be a truly memorable trip in every way...The house is very beautiful with domed brick ceilings, gorgeous carved wooden doors, lovely floor tiles, spacious high ceilinged ensuite rooms with ceiling fans, latticed arched wooden windows in traditional Egyptian style, exquisite dining room furniture in wood and mother pearl , everything in the house has been designed with taste and refinement. The roof terrace where we had our breakfast in the sun every morning, has a wonderful view of the Nile and its feluccas, dahabyas, small colourful boats and huge steam ships ... The Valley of the Kings and the balloons that hang over it can be seen from the back windows. The Eastern bank with the Winter Palace , Luxor and Karnak temples is just a short and very pleasant boat ride away... And there is Khyry. Khyry , the Egyptian friend of Pamela and Christopher who with his good humour and intelligence will resolve any problems, organize your outings, camel rides, tomb visits - where he can be your knowledgeable guide - , take you to the nicest restaurants, protect you from persistent touts... he really is your key to Luxor! And opposite the house there is a beautiful , secluded swimming pool with a small garden , an oasis of calm and sunshine...
I was forgetting to mention the food, the heavenly food cooked by Mahmoud... Guava or strawberry and banana juices, wonderful falafels, delicious tahina, fish from the Nile , stuffed pidgeons... Real feasts at breakfast and dinner!
As I was invited by one of Pamela's sisters, I had the luck of meeting her and Christopher, two of the best hosts I have ever met as well as two of the nicest. To have built two houses as gorgeous as River Bank and Villa Rosamund from scratch is amazing, I really admire their passion for Egypt, for Luxor and for making the stay of whoever rents their beautiful houses a unique experience... one that I was lucky to have been able to enjoy and
I would love to share some day with my family... maybe renting the house for a few days and then sailing down the Nile from Luxor to Aswan on their dahabiya, stopping at villages on the way , watching sunsets and full moons on the river... I truly can not think of many more enjoyable ways of spending a week in Egypt away from the crowds...This is the one!

Wonderful place to stay in Luxor!
This is a beautiful house in a wonderful location - you will enjoy sitting on the roof and listening to the sounds of the muezzin calling to prayer as the sun sets, and watching the life on the river. Khyry is a real 'fixer' and made all aspects of our stay very easy. He arranged for our trips to the tombs, organised a morning of camel riding, and even horse and carriage rides around Luxor. As much or as little as you want, he will facilitate and advise.

What a amazing experience!!
Our family of 5 have had a wonderful stay in this most gloriously designed and well facilitated property. Riverbank is a subtle icon in its own right, located right on the bank of the Nile (opposite King Farook's Winter Palace and the Ancient Luxor Temple itself). The views from the roof terrace and the first floor of the Nile are wonderful, we spent most mornings from 5am onwards watching the sun rise, the early fishermen in their little rowboats and the hot air balloons rising above this calm arterial river. Turn around to look to the rear of The Riverbank and you see the stunning views of the desert mountains, Valley of the Queens, the village, the banana plantations. So much greenery met by the dry desert mountains in the distance. Really Stunning!
Everything was perfect during our 4 week stay, I realise that this is a 'statement' but Khyry who takes care of the guests was waiting at Luxor airport with an a/c vehicle and a meal waiting for us at the villa. Khyry understands hospitality, but he offers this naturally and genuinely. He is now a friend, whom I would l hope to keep in touch with.
Highly recommended are the optional meals that were offered to us purely as an additional service for our convenience. Mehmood is an excellent chef with lots of experience and culinary ideas and Saeed his assistant was always on the ready to help, accommodating in every way.
Overall a great trip in a great villa which is superbly placed to explore Luxor and enjoy its greatest asset the Nile.
Oh and I can't forget the new swimming pool in its own grounds and facilities also the local stables for very affordable horse riding. The Dahabiyah cruise, which is also available is out of this world, tranquil, mystical sailing from Luxor to Aswan with historic temple and site stops at Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Silsila Island ending in Aswan.
I could go on.... :-)
Thank you Christopher, Pamela, Khyry and his team.

A memorable and outstanding holiday
Forget cruising on the Nile - if you really want to see Egypt in all its many facets, stay at Riverbank House. It's a most beautiful home, light and airy, with a simplicity and faithfulness to its Egyptian design and detail, with fantastic views across the Nile to the Temple at Luxor and the Winter Palace to the front, and the mountain at the back. It is so peaceful, and with Mahdi and Sayid preparing wonderful meals, and Khyry organising all our excursions, wherever we wanted to go, nothing could be more relaxing. Partly because he accompanied us, and also because the local people are so warm and welcoming, we felt entirely safe.
We adored the trip up the Nile in the dahabiya, and the richness of the bird life in the shallow waters of the banks is a joy for anyone interested in ornithology. Visiting the temple at Esna was a bonus - it was fascinating to see how the Greeks and Romans adapted their own religion to incorporate Egyptian gods and goddesses.
More locally, there is plenty to do. We enjoyed swimming in the hotel outdoor pool, set in pleasant gardens, just a short walk away, and it was interesting walking through the village and along the paths by the banks of the Nile, seeing how the local people make use of the fertile soil to grow crops and feed cattle, a little glimpse into true Egyptian life.
Of course, if you want to visit Egyptian tombs and the Valley of the Kings, these are right on your doorstep.
Altogether, I cannot think of a more lovely place to stay, looked after by such attentive people, and with such varied and interesting things to do and see: a perfect and memorable holiday.

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Riverbank House in Luxor. The house is modern, clean and secure. The staff were warm and caring and catered to all our needs. They made our stay especially memorable by making arrangements to celebrate my wife's birthday. I wholeheartedly recommend this homestay to families and large groups who want to have a memorable time in Luxor.

This house in Luxor is absolutely amazing and we have enjoyed every moment of being around the house, in the surrounding village, and popping to the main city over the Nile!
The staff looked after us so well, with good humour and care; such nice people. We asked for daily meals, and what a treat they were; better could not be found outside - this is a must and quite inexpensive.
The local manager knows everyone and everything that is going on; from politics to pharaohs and was able to produce an academic, a tailor, a boat, some camels and everything we needed - we settled in and got to know the area within hours, making friends and being made to feel just so welcome.
And to be in that location, with the village behind and fields next door..gazing over to the Old Winter Palace hotel on the banks of the Nile....wow.
Naturally we did the usual things from a tomb and temple point of view, and of course these are wonders to behold - but I really think that just mixing with the locals and taking a stroll along the tracks, nipping to the shop, taking a donkey ride and motorcycle ride (we managed to borrow these for a couple of hours) was a high point for us all.
We will certainly want to go back, hopefully often. The kids were in great form and had one of the best trips ever. Not a moment of boredom for them. We plan to return with friends and family as soon as possible.
Being slightly security aware, particularly in that general region, I have to say that I felt completely at ease everywhere.

I can only echo the remarks in the previous reviews. Khyry is a huge asset, ably assisted by Madhi & Hadjadi. You have the chance to visit at leisure places not on a "group" agenda to cross the Nile in your own boat, or dangle your fingers in the water while sailing in a felucca. I cannot rate a stay at Riverbank more highly.

It was a great privilege to stay in
Riverbank House, to revel in the Nile flowing past every window and to be introduced to Khyry and his team. He showed me his country from the “inside”, which is rarely given to a visitor to experience, and Mahdi, Ahmed and Sayed cooked, cleaned and provided security with great competence and courtesy. Mahdi's food and artistic towel arrangements would be quite at home in the Winter Palace Hotel.
It was all beyond imagination - the place itself and the people are equal in my memory to the great antiquities and the beautiful river. The House provided the most comfortable and atmospheric base from which to explore the wonders on its doorstep and Khyry's advice was invaluable. He is the "go to" man for information and can provide
a solution to almost everything, from how to get to your chosen destination and what to eat when you get there.
It was the most memorable of holidays and I have already signalled a strong wish to return!

I was invited to Luxor for a week and was lucky enough to stay in Riverbank House. This house is newly built in traditional style, immaculately clean and stylishly furnished with views from all the rooms. Riverbank House is on the West Bank of the Nile, opposite the Luxor Temple, Karnak and the famed Winter Palace on the East Bank. The bedrooms are comfortable with ceiling fans and large wardrobes and the sitting areas are large, cool and comfortable. The rooftop area is a perfect place for breakfast, overlooking the Nile on one side and the Valley of the Kings on the other. The efficient staff treated us like royalty - (Mahdi's omelettes and pancakes were legendary!).
We spent many fascinating hours visiting nearby museums and tombs, and sunset in the desert is an unmissable experience.
Another highlights of our stay was a trip down the Nile on a felucca. There are small, pleasant restaurants nearby, with fresh food and wonderful service, some of them prepared to cook to order. We also enjoyed an evening of entertainment at the nearby Al Gezira Hotel Restaurant with a Whirling Dervish! The local people couldn't have been more friendly and we were welcomed with open arms by all the Egyptian people we met, including the children, who spoke to us in English!

The listing is accurate on all fronts. The location is directly facing the Nile, which is fabulous! Hours spent on the roof terrace gazing across the water at passing sail boats and river bank birdlife; turn 180 degrees and marvel at the sandstone mountains - tombs of the Kings, Queens, Nobles and Workers.
The layout and facilities: Everything was as you can read on this site.
Visiting from November to April is probably the best time heatwise (it almost never rains all year!) The evenings are cooler and the need for air conditioning was not necessary! Each room has the traditional ceiling fans, very effective if needed. Bedrooms were much larger than expected; very tradi in style (cool tiled floors; wood- carved shaded windows; efficient en-suite bathrooms with shower/bath (and plenty of hot water). Mattresses extremely comfortable and nb. the pillows – they surpassed my own travel pillow! For those who love to soak up the light the roof terrace was, without doubt, the place to be: sunny (with optional shade and cooling fan if needed) magnificent views; for peaceful, spiritual shade, then the first floor sitting room was the perfect.
Great kitchen. Breakfast: the ever-smiling Mahdi prepared breakfast: fresh fruit juices, fruit salad/yoghurts, omelettes or pancakes, and fresh local breads. For dinner try local restaurants recommended by Khyry. “Africa” excellent roof terrace dining room and the local hotel, El-Gezirah Garden, very good buffet supper with live music. You can inexpensively use their pool.
We were met at the airport by Khyry, who manages this beautiful home and who can take your holiday from “special” to “sublime”! I cannot recommend this man enough as he takes care of all your plans and he made our holiday completely stress free. We felt safe and valued throughout our stay. Here, on the West Bank, life is very peaceful; like stepping back in time. Banana groves and agricultural land 5 mins walk. Access to tombs and historic sites relatively tourist free and the whole atmosphere was one of timeless history. Oxen, donkeys, camels, goats exist side by side with the ever impinging modern lifestyle. Visited the East Bank, Winter Palace (pool side lunch) Karnak’s Temple and Museum (superb guide, Ahmed,) and the souks.
Evening G&T“Sundowners” on the roof. Rooftop BBQ.Walk along the banks of the Nile with torches. Driving to the desert to watch the sun set – all forever etched in our memories!

Amazing Authentic Villa on the Nile
The listing is accurate on all fronts. The location is directly facing the Nile, which is fabulous! Hours spent on the roof terrace gazing across the water at passing sail boats and river bank birdlife; turn 180 degrees and marvel at the sandstone mountains - tombs of the Kings, Queens, Nobles and Workers.
The layout and facilities: Everything was as you can read on this site.

Sejour inoubliable
