Two moms weekend get away was great! The stay was wonderful and yes there was initially a musty smell, but nothing that a little air freshener couldn’t fix along with some open windows. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.

After staying at "The Monkey" back in 2021, my girlfriend and I were excited to return in October, 2023. It was a wonderful place with a great location, well equipped kitchen, easy check-in, and very close to the beach. We LOVED our first stay. Everything was the same as in 2021, except the cleanliness. Whoever is charged with cleaning the place should be fired by the owner. This review pains me because it is a great place. The worst part of the stay was the overpowering musty smell in the back cottage. We ran the ceiling fan, opened windows and purchased 2 containers of "Damp-Rid" to try to alleviate the smell with no success. The smell was strong enough that sleeping was difficult. Other issues: 1. Two dead cockroaches. One in an empty dresser drawer and one on top of the dryer. 2. Baseboards that had not been wiped down for some time. Very dirty. Likewise with the top of the refrigerator. 3. Once you open the windows, the sills were filthy. This was not simply the result of one or two missed cleanings - this was accumulated dirt. 4. The window sills on the front screened porch were filthy. 5. The outside shower walls were moldy and algae was growing on them. Yes, it is what you might expect from an outdoor shower, but it would be easy to take a brush and a bit of bleach water and clear the growth. 6. A broken toilet seat in the back cottage bathroom. 7. The shower head in the bathroom of the main house had mold growing on it. A disappointing stay.

Property was very clean and comfortable. We felt like we were at home. Loves that the beach access was so close. Very good coffee shop down the street.

This adorable cottage had everything we needed! Even some coffee to get us started and shampoo/conditioner which we forgot! The beach was so close we could run back and forth as needed. And the cutest coffee shop was also steps away. The hot tub completed our perfect trip! We had a little storm but it just added a little excitement! We would definitely stay again and bring some friends/kids next time😁😁😁

We had a great time at this cute little house. It is a short walk to the beach as advertised. Loved relaxing in the hot tub. Outdoor shower was truly handy. The third bedroom is a private room that would be great for traveling with friends or older children. Well stocked kitchen and screened in porch with everything you need for a beach day. I highly recommend it!

Loved the location. Great beach experience even though it was a short weekend. House is sweet. Plenty of room. Some difficulty with lighting but nothing that couldn't be handled. Thanks so much for accommodating a short stay and late booking. So grateful for availability.

Property is well maintained, the location is superb for both beach and other activities. We plan on staying here again.

Family of 5 came to spend Labor Day weekend and Flying Monkey met all of our needs. Great place to stay ,close to beach .We will be back!!

This was my first time staying at a little cottage like this and it was worth every penny, the location was perfect for getting our little one to the beach and back and we were close to plenty of food options. The inside of the cottage was clean and so cute and felt so cozy, I would love to stay here again!

We had a fantastic trip, and the place was terrific. The house had everything we needed and was an easy walk to a beach that wasn’t crowded, even during high season. There is a cute coffee shop and another breakfast/ice cream place about a block away, and you could either walk or take a short drive to tons of shops and restaurants. The layout of the house worked really well for our group, and our host was extremely communicative and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

This property was perfect for us: separated from the higher density hotels/resorts, easy walk & access to the beach, & walkable to get coffee etc if we wanted. Not every street has beach access at the end of it but Arch St. does…super convenient. Property provides a wagon & lawn chairs. Plenty of outside space to shed sandals & rinse feet or shower off before going into the house. Washer/dryer in convenient location by back door to master suite. Owner’s communication was prompt & helpful. Very easy check-in & out process. Check out especially was easier than many VRBOs we’ve used. A well maintained property. Enjoy!

This was our second stay at the flying monkey and it was just as fabulous as we remembered!

This beach house was perfect for a long weekend. With a fully equipped kitchen, we were able to grill and make most of our food at the house. It was so close to the beach, we went every day even though there were thunderstorms. We were able to wait out the rain, then get plenty of beach time in as soon as the sun was back out. It was a great place and we'll definitely look for availability the next time we head to OBX.

We stayed here and we're pleased with the location. It was central to the actives on Roanoke Island, Wright Brother's, and the Wild Horses to the North. Nice easy walk to the beach and this area of the beach was quiet. Our pre-teen son loved the second suite, he got to enjoy his own apartment lifestyle. We'll probably be back one day to see more of the Outer Banks and North Carolina.

As always, the Flying Monkey was just what we needed for our OBX vacation. Great location, clean, stocked with what we need and comfortable. We have stayed here several times and will stay again! Thank you Larry and Tracey!

The house was nice and clean. Lots of character. Location was fantastic. Owner is friendly and outgoing. Highly recommended.

This was a great get away for our family (wife and little kids 2 & 4). If you want to relax and have a nice time at the beach, this little getaway is a great place to book.

We are a group of retired 65+ teachers. The cottage is delightful, bright and very clean, nice comfortable furniture, and well- equipped. The distance to the beach was a little farther than we anticipated, but the beach wagon was helpful. We enjoyed our stay!

This was our first time visiting the OBX and the house was absolutely perfect for us and our 18 month old. Plenty of beach gear so we didn’t have to travel with too much and a very short walk to the beach which was not crowded at all. We were very happy with our stay

This was a really wonderful surprise property for our beach weekend trip. The house was comfortable and clean, with everything you could need tucked away. It had card games and board games and the couches and chairs were comfortable. The beach was just a short walk away and the wagon and chairs provided helped make that super easy. 5 stars overall!

A perfect and quiet rental so close to the beach. Exactly like the photos and very clean with paper products stocked. Great for a couple or family. Very cozy and the hot tub is 10 out of 10. Would stay again

We stayed here with our granddaughters and their partners, it rained the entire time yet we had a great visit, eating, playing games and resting!!

This quaint cottage had everything we could possibly want for our spring break beach getaway!! It was super clean, stocked with all essential items and beautifully decorated. The proximity to the beach, as well as shops and restaurants, was ideal. Larry was very responsive and accommodating. We will absolutely return… actually can’t imagine staying anywhere else on the Outer Banks.

Stayed here in March, easy walk to the beach. Hottub was wonderful and relaxing. Bright, clean, nicely furnished and decorated. Beds were very comfortable. Hope to come back soon.

I was so pleased with the location to the beach. I could get up each morning and get there quickly. The place was cozy and there were enough rooms for us all.

Great house! Perfect size, all one level. Clean & stocked with amenities. Two minute walk to beach access & quiet friendly neighborhood. Screened in porch for enjoying morning coffee. Will definitely recommend & keep in mind for future stays! Thank you so much!
