Attentive staff, beautiful clean rooms, stunning view and best breakfast ever

The hotel was amazing - comfortable and friendly. The staff were very approachable and helpful and the Spa was great.

We had a sea view booked but in Room 1 where we stayed the view is more like a partial sea view - we could mainly see reception and the sea view was obscured. I know lots of people like huge beds but not at the cost of being able to move around a room easily. I would have preferred more floor space that a huge bed that could have fitted 5 people in!

Main course, evening meal, was absolutely delicious. Pudding were rather bland and expensive for what they were.

Cold food, on the first night off duty staff sat around the bar drinking and in reception, made it feel like a hostel rather than a 4 star hotel

Every member of staff was naturally friendly and helpful. Room was excellent. Lovely touch to have gin available. Free transport a great idea. Spa was very good and the view when eating excellent.

Although we enjoyed the food, it was pricey for what it was. Breakfast also was good but there needed to be greater choice and quality. I’ve had better full breakfasts in a B and B.

Everything about this hotel is amazing. From the staff who are so helpful and friendly to the food which is superb to the facilities which are just great. We loved it, would recommend and will definitely be going again.

Beachy. Huge comfortable bed. Complimentary carafe (1/4 full) of gin, with (only) 2 small complimentary fever tree tonics in the room on arrival.

Food was really disappointing. We had 2 breakfasts and an evening meal. Evening meal was OK, nothing special. We were expecting much better. The service was friendly and speedy. Breakfast was terrible on both mornings. Poached and scrambled eggs were watery, fried eggs were more like steamed eggs. I asked to substitute beans for bacon on the veggie breakfast option, however I had half the other ingredients removed as well (namely beans, tomatoes & mushrooms) and given bacon and avocado instead 😩 Avo was very unpleasant, and the bacon was greasy and had dried out. My husbands black pudding was like a crisp! Day 2 (a Monday) breakfast: Avocado and egg on sourdough; absolutely terrible. Avo had a strange flavour and was cold and slimey, the sour dough bread was either stale, or stale-toasted; impossible to bite, chew, or cut. It all got pushed to one side of the plate and left; I don’t like waste but had no choice considering I was given inedible food (possibly yesterday’s scraps). I decided to make toast using the toaster machine, but there was only white bread available in the basket; I brought the lack of brown bread (in the basket) to the attention of a friendly waiter, who kindly gave me 2 slices of brown bread on a plate but told me that was all he could spare as they were running low, and couldn’t replenish the basket either. The staff tried so hard to please but were overwhelmed at times, and had to apologise a lot, which they were very good at! We had 2 fire drills due to a fault; one at 6am and one at 11:00pm on consecutive days. The evacuation process raised a lot of concerns, and we were assured the fire drills had highlighted that they needed to improve their fire safety. The steps out of reception to the muster point were particularly treacherous in the dark and wet; lighting not fit for purpose, and no-one to help anyone with incapacities, particularly on the 2nd night. The steps are an accident waiting to happen (note to management: take heed).

Staff were inexperienced and poorly trained. For example, each time we ordered breakfast it came to us incorrect. Waiter whistled in the restaurant.

Beautiful location

Stayed 2 nights eating breakfast and evening meal on both days. Service was very poor.. waited 25 minutes on both days to be asked what we wanted to drink. Also waited a long time for our breakfast requests.It felt like it was the beginning of the season and staff had no experience.

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights for our babymoon. Would highly recommend for a staycation. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent restaurant on site with a beautiful view. Great breakfast with hot and cold options. I had a pregnancy massage in the spa which was very relaxing. Great location as right on South sands bay. You can walk into Salcombe town however there are a few hills to manage. The hotel provides a free shuttle service to their sister hotel every day as well.

Staff attention to detail was very disappointing felt we always asking for everything - day one my 14 year old daughter given wrong drink after ordering a mock tail instead got given alcoholic drink - sorry but way better at South Sands hotel show customer they really value your custom. HBC Room 101 smelt of cigarettes - was no view from the bed just panelled wall - no fresh towels in the room - very noisy fan in bathroom - silly rule no kids in pool between 10-4.30 - I have a 14 year old who wanted to swim in the pool as sea way too cold. Won’t book again.

Beautiful location, very clean, staff polite and helpful. Really enjoyed the free beach yoga each morning and the spa pool.

Service took ages at restaurant (over 30 mins each time, think kitchen very short staffed) had to book everything (spa got booked up, couldn't just relax and see what felt like when arrived), bed really high up and not v. comfy. Quite isolated location - not much to do when weather is bad so don't want to spend day on beach and can't really walk anywhere as super steep hills and very narrow roads with lots of cars.

Cleanliness of the room could have been better, there was a left over vape in the room from a previous person. Also we were told we would get a balcony and we didn’t.
