Average at best. Our room was freezing. No additional bedding for warmth. Sheets were subpar and the mattress was uncomfortable.

The Inn is the epitome of charming. The staff are attentive and really go out of their way to assist and please. The breakfast is excellent and the special price-fixed dinner was outstanding!

We haven’t been here in 15 years and we had fun memories. It did not disappoint so a wonderful, cozy service, friendly, beautiful architectural old homes.

Booked this place due to its unique Victorian character. Neighborhood very sketchy… near courthouse and jail. Advertised free breakfast, when entered dining area buffet of only gluten full selection, nothing was gluten free. Breakfast menu offered egg dishes for $25. We checked out and went in search of a diner.
Also, our room didn’t have a phone! Do they assume everyone has a cell phone? I think this is a safety issue, especially in case of an emergency.

I really loved this place - the check in and check out folks were SO welcoming and accommodating, I will definitely stay here next time. The bed was comfy, the room was VERY quiet even though on the first floor near the restaurant/bar and parking lot. I didn't get to use the bathtub but 100% want to come back just to use the bath salts and fanciness and eat in the restaurant.

Very nice place. Old but well kept. Interesting building. Staff were extremely friendly helpful and professional. The dinner we had was one of the top 5 meals I’ve ever eaten. Very warm friendly place to stay with lots of character

This property was in an excellent historic building that is well-maintained. All of the staff were very friendly. Check-in was very smooth and welcoming. The room was very nice and had many unexpected amenities. Please note - this is an older building, so walls are a bit thin, but that didn’t bother us.

Unique rooms and facility. The walk to the restaurant area was good and we were lucky that the Friday market was happening. Lots of community activities, local artists and street food and beer vendors. A really memorable stay and a highlight of a great two week road trip down the coast from Seattle to San Francisco.

Check in was very easy and the property was pet friendly, so we were able to bring in our miniature schnauzer. There was even a back door we could bring our pooch in and out of without having to march him through the lobby and possibly disturb other guests. Sarah greeted us warmly and told us about nearby dinner options since the restaurant isn’t open on Wednesdays and even gave us a great guide as well as a simple information sheet with WiFi password, check in and out times, as well as bar and breakfast hours. (There is a free wine pour at night and complimentary breakfast worthy of a five star restaurant included in the stay.) The entire property was immaculate and handsomely appointed, including our room with queen size bed, armoire, dresser, and desk. There was a basket of goodies you could purchase from, which included chocolates, wine, and other yummy eats. The bathroom had plenty of room to spread out your toiletries and provided huge bath sheets and robes that were plush and comfy. They also had great spa worthy amenities that smelled fabulous but were not overpowering. The bedding and pillows were ultra comfy, although we barely used them since it was warm. Troy, the manager, was super friendly and was happy to talk shop (since we are in the hospitality business ourselves) and give great recommendations for things to do next time we visit. If you’re ever in Eureka, this is the place to stay, especially if you want easy accessibility to Old Town and the waterfront.

We loved the personal attention at check-in, complimentary drink and breakfast, and the intimacy of a bed and breakfast experience. There are more rooms than the BBs we have stayed at in the past, but it was still quiet and charming. The location was ideal for our trip up the CA northern coast.

This is a beautiful property that is well-cared-for. The staff were gracious and helpful. The food was excellent. And the music in the lobby in the evening was lots of fun. We stayed in the main lodge, which is my preference for this hotel. The only downside is Eureka's continued struggle with homelessness.

This place is stunning. Very well maintained, keeping as close to original as possible while still doing maintenance. The Inn and the town of Eureka are a perfect union. We stayed in room 201 facing the Arbor. There are many homeless ppl in the area but it makes no difference on the scale. Breakfast is delicious and made to order. There are fresh cookies in the afternoon and fresh muffins/pastries in the mornings. They take providing a high standard of service seriously. Carter House is the embodiment of an old fashion inn by the sea. We loved it there and God willing, we’ll be back!

We chose the Carter House for a one-night stop on our way down the Pacific Coast because it was advertised as a very special inn. The inn was fine - room was clean, bed was comfortable. But, they are still using silly little plastic containers of shampoo, so it was certainly not eco-friendly. We were told to expect an amazing breakfast, but it was just average with very few interesting options (eggs and bacon and breakfast tacos - both containing meat) and no vegetarian options. Unlike most hotels and inns, the Carter House did not have an in-room frig or access to a community refrigerator for travelers. On the plus side, it is in a nice section of Town within easy walking distance of restaurants. Also, the check-in staff was very friendly and helpful.

We loved the room and proximity to Old Eureka. It's unfortuneate Eureka has a fair amount of homeless individuals in the area.

Douglas checked us in. He was wonderful. He takes great pride in Carter House and it shows. We loved the uniqueness of this historic hotel. It was like taking a step back in time, in a good way. The extra touches like the complimentary breakfast that goes above and beyond by an amazing chef and a complimentary cocktail at a cool bar each night was a welcome reprieve. We also appreciated the proximity to the Redwood forest. Driving thru the Avenue of the Giants was incredible. We will be back!

Stayed here for final night of road/hiking trip. Comfortable room, really nice breakfast including choice of hot items individually made and served. After a long day of hiking, we were disappointed that their restaurant was closed that night (they had sent us a message ahead of time), but even their interesting bar menu was also not available. No worries, we had a decent meal at nearby Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe.
