Lovely historic building (not the castle shown in one of the photos!) and comfortable room and bar area downstairs. The beds are way too soft though!! Helpful friendly staff.

We were shocked by the state of this hotel. The rooms wasn’t cleaned in ages, dust and spiserwebs everywhere. Lights not working, soapdispenser broken and paint coming off the walls. The curtains couldn’t be closed properly because they we broken. There was even a yellow spot beneath the sheats from a previous guest, disgusting. Stay away from here if you care about hygiene and your health. We talked with the manager about this, he apoligised and promised us a compensation yet be determined. If this brings change remains to be seen. Our impression of this hotell and the Fletcher-chain as a whole is rock bottom. If Hotel Hell is looking for places to make more episodes, look no further...

It’s getting very tired and needs a revamp for the price you pay—it’s in an excellent location in a beautiful environment but there are better alternative options to choose from in the area.

On arrival we were tired after a long journey. The receptionist really needed to go back to hotel school to learn how to welcome guests. She was cold and unhelpful. When we asked if we could eat something in the hotel restaurant, we were told “it’s full”.. we asked if she could check .... “no” was the one word answer from the kitchen . They couldn’t be arsed to serve us... so went out to find something in the town ... were virtuallly everything was closed at 20.30 hrs... not a good experience. The room was drab and in need of renovation. Clean enough apart from the stained carpets.. this hotel needs to get some more friendly and helpful staff.

I like the ambience of this hotel, which started as a wrecked old farmhouse but brought to life again as an interesting and attractive hotel with a countryside feel to it. The rooms are now getting a bit down at heel and could do with some update, but that has not stopped me coming back here on visits to the area because the other advantages of the hotel are so nice. Breakfast offers a good choice and is in the same building whilst evening meals are in the old castle building over the road. There is also a nice park with lakes you can walk around, which makes a good start to the day. Altogether pleasant.

Beautiful location but the rooms could use an overhaul. We were up on the 3rd floor (no lifts) which made trips out with my dog a bit of a challenge.

Comfortable inn with beautiful surroundings. Rooms are a bit worn but comfortable and clean. Nice breakfast and cozy bar with a wide selection of Belgian beers.

The hotel was ok, never quite as you expect in the pictures. But the staff were friendly enough and the breakfast was good and varied. Room needed updating but had all we needed. Local area had a good restaurant Juliette and the bar in the hotel was buzzing, tho probably because of the people with us. It was a good base for where we wanted to go so it did for us.

A modernized old building in a very nice semi-rural location, with evening restaurant across the lane in an attractive old castle. Meals in the restaurant are delicious although somewhat expensive. Breakfast is in the main hotel building and is very good. The semi-rural location offers a pleasant walk around lakes in the valley. Fairly convenient also for nearby Aachen as well as South Limburg Holland where it is actually located.

Ok hotel, bar open late which was good however seemed to lack in staff as had to wait. Breakfast was overpriced for what was on offer 16 euros pp. much better value in town centre. No air con in rooms but it is an old building. Should remove the fridges from the rooms as they do not put them on.

I intended to offer a surprise to my family and indeed it was a surprise, but not a good one! The hotel was not refurbished since 1983 when former owner created the hotel from a distroyed monumental building (former farm house, convent, next to a great castle - as annex). Rooms are ruined, dirty, missing elementar things for so-called 4 stars hotel (i.e. no toiletries offered in bathroom). Overall image: worst than a old 2 stars or hostel in a way; see pictures. The current owner (who purchased the hotel 6-7 years ago) simply make plenty of money there without doing anything to improve. Fletcher Group asks quite high price (as for 4-5 stars) and offers anything for what you pay. Rooms and hotel need first a major cleaning and then a total refurbishing. Only breakfast was great; however you do not go to a castle hotel for breakfast only... A no go fi considering romantic gateway or travelling with kids, even if surrounding area is great, plenty of nature - a big park, ideal for walking; GAIA Zoo and a nice medieval castle (now a good restaurant) next door. Avoid Junior Studio because they ask lot of money and you get what you see in pictures! Better stay next time in Rolduc Monastery hotel in vicinity (at least having the feeling of something impresive!). For sure not return soon to the castle hotel, at least not before they clean and refurbish the rooms... By the way, apples trees in front of hotels are great, good fruits (but nobody pick up them!)

Hotel nicely located in quiet environment next to the zoo. Nice room size, but interior is outdated with old carpet and wall paper. Refrigerator in room but no safe. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom has been updated. Free wifi and parking. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Fee for dog not mentioned on hotels.com and high at €15/night.

Great staff - very attentive. Good location for travelling, activities for the kids for a weekend away.

Dont be misled by the photo of the castle. The actual hotel is not in fact there, but situated a 2 minute drive away on the other side of the road, in another building completely. That was the first let-down. Plus points; friendly staff, great breakfast. Negative points; a very dark and tired looking room painted in a depressing green colour, cobwebs on the ceiling, ticking pipework any time the room above used the bathroom, lack of sound-proofing, and a strange smell in the corridor.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for business travel. It was a good choice, conveniently located in a beautiful and quiet environment. It is surely a nice place to stay in if you are in search of quietness.

I stayed at the hotel for a business trip. I was pleasantly suprised at how nice the accomadations were and the staf was excellent. One of the best parts of the hotel is a phenominal running/walking/biking trail practically beginning at the front door.

The hotel is a short walk to the zoo - with a secret entrance in the garden, castle and they had a pretty nice spread in the morning. The only down side of the place.. which isn't really that bad was the decoration of the hotels. My husband and i thought it could use a little love, but other than that, it was great for our one night stay with our little boy. The castle across the way also has a fabulous restaurant inside.
