We actually felt it was an ok stay. The room appeared orderly and the sheets smelled clean. The bathroom had good lighting. The jetted tub was a huge disappointment. I always book a room with a tub because I love to soak. The jets were moldy and didn’t work at all. I couldn’t use the tub after taking a close look. The breakfast was excellent and the woman serving us was pleasant. They have a very nice eclectic library. The whole place has a run down appearance. I probably wouldn’t stay there again and I feel bad saying that as the hosts were nice folks. Maybe it’s just getting to be too much for them.

Rooms where decorated nicely, there was no smoke detector in the room, bath sink fixture works but one handle was broken, exterior was in dire need of care. Rob the owner did cook up a great breakfast.

Arrived late at night Understandably no one there to greet us. Then, however, the toilet in the room wasn’t even operational They never should have rented the room

Given this place currently scores an 8.8/10 on hotels.com, we were extremely disappointed with the state of disrepair and lack of cleanliness we experienced. I would strongly recommend looking at reviews across multiple sites if you are considering staying here to set your expectations. My best guess is this place used to be very charming (hence good average reviews here) but has gone downhill in cleaning and maintenance in recent years. When we arrived for our check in around 8pm, no one was there, but a folded letter with our keys inside was on the desk so we headed up to our room based on that. When we got to our room, we discovered the doorknob for our room was broken and wobbled all over. There was a deadbolt to lock the door, but the knob itself was not usable. We went to use the toilet and discovered it only flushed some of the time. We tried to use the shower and it drained very slowly. The glasses in the bathroom had grime inside and there were hairs on the tub from a past guest. There was no cell service and the internet was limited to a shared WiFi (no password protection) that only worked when we went downstairs into the common area. We tried to call to report the plumbing and other issues but the number listed on our reservation was disconnected. When we found the host the next day, we checked out early and let them know of the issues. They were defensive so we didn’t push further on the plumbing etc. Chances are it’s still in disrepair.

Not a bad place for the money.

It was a great place to stay for the night before my marathon. I am grateful for their understanding of waking up before the crack of dawn.

We made reservations at 8:53 AM and arrived at the hotel around 6:30 PM. After asking us if we had reservations, the owner checks his PC and says, “You do not have reservations”. After greeting us with this a few minutes later and after a bit of a panicked search he indeed realized that we did have reservations. Our room was not ready and as they hastily prepared our room we felt anything but welcomed guests. The king size bed was not overly comfortable and the pillows were “broken”. Needless to say, our nights rest was uncomfortable. After showering the next morning we decided to pass on the free breakfast included in our stay because of the less than acceptable hospitality of the owners. At 8:30 AM we departed.

The parking lot wasn’t shoveled and there was ice at the bottom of the steps when we were leaving! We will not be staying there again!

Property could use a good Spring cleaning and refreshing of rooms with new sheets and pillows. Breakfast was delicious and location was great.

If you're into old fashioned, old bed and breakfast stops then this is your place. It's old and a little creepy with tiny, steep steps going up to the rooms on the second floor. Large room, but kind of dark and dingy with old furnishings and an even older TV. You will not be hooking up your Roku here and forget about getting wifi even though they list it. Only got half a roll of TP and 2 tissues in the tissues box. I noticed an earlier poster said the same. No soap in the bathroom and there were 3 small bottles of conditioner but no shampoo. I thought breakfast was very good, but it is a very limited menu choice. Hosts were very nice and as they say, they are doing it their way. You also get several pages of rules when you get there, so watch out for that.

Ron is a good host. He is a great cook offering a great gourmet breakfast, pumpkin pancakes, spinach omelette, muffins to name a few items. Coffee, tea and cookies always available. Place could use some upkeep and deep cleaning. A bit dark could use a few more light bulbs. It was nice to enjoy having the windows open but the noise from traffic on the busy road a block away. It is in a good location if visiting Conway.

Breakfast was outstanding

The breakfast was slightly above average, good but not great. The entire property needs to be refreshed. The picket fence was falling down, the outside plants needed to be trimmed (overgrown and shabby), the window in our bathroom wouldn't close, the faucet in the tube dripped continuously and the floor in our room had numerous step-ups and step-downs which made going to the bathroom during the night treacherous. The bathroom had two very tall and narrow step-ups to get into. My girlfriend slipped and twisted her ankle and knee the first time she came out of the bathroom and that was during daylight. I don't recommend this B&B

Great breakfast

There's not a lot of curb appeal to the exterior of this property. In fact, I thought it was closed when I arrived. The parking lot is small and it was tough finding a good spot for my truck. The pool and grounds were mostly unkept. The inside is very rustic. The sink in my room didn't drain very quickly, and there was a missing fixture in the bathroom. When I arrived, the gas stove was running and the room was 80 degrees, so I had to run the A/C and crank the ceiling fan. The cords for the blinds were tangled and unusable. When I arrived, the toilet had been used and not cleaned after. The TV is outdated. The sheets and towels were clean. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was friendly. I didn't make time for breakfast but did grab a coffee to go. There were other snacks available. The area is quiet at night. There are dozens of choices for hotels and B&Bs in this area and it is very competitive, so I was happy enough to stay here for a night, at the price I paid. I did not spend much time in my room. I could not find a WiFi network and was not given any details for such. This is not a luxury B&B but a serviceable place to lay your head.

My husband and I stayed for a long weekend. Owner was very pleasant and location was great. The room we stayed in was ok, the bathroom had quite a few issues that the owner knew about but unfortunately he has been unable to find an electrician and plumber to fix the issues. The food was amazing and the rest of the house was beautiful, we will just know not to stay in that room again

It has a charm on it’s own. A true bed and breakfast.. and the food was hands down divine!

We had a quiet stay the breakfast was first class and well worth the stay. No pool or TV but did I mention the breakfast it was outstanding.

The bathroom was unsafe for tall people and repairs were needed on the floor and window. The room was fine except for the bathroom. Other rooms looked much nicer than ours so we were confused by the lower standard in our room.The breakfast was the best thing about this inn. The food was excellent and waiter was outstanding!

The food was very good, but the pool was covered up and lots of debris. My room was not what was pictured online and bathroom especially in disrepair. A towel rack fell off the wall when I tried to place a towel on it. When I tried to adjust the angle of the shower head, the whole thing broke away from the wall. There were multiple patches on the walls that were not painted over. Shabby.

Room was comfortable and clean, staff were pleasant.

The Red Elephant is reasonably good value. We used it as a base to explore to the fantastic National Parks. The breakfast was reasonable and would really suit those with a sweet tooth. Lots of cream, chocolate, and pastry options. The only real downside was the strong smell of oil etc when breakfast was being prepared - it emanated throughout the b and b and I found it overwhelming. Still, good value in an expensive part of the area. Local restaurants were excellent!

Loving our stay! Breakfast was incredible. I’ve never stayed in a bed and breakfast like this before. Will be coming back for our next NH trip!

We have stayed here twice now, once in the summer & once in the winter & both times the deck stairs & deck is very unsafe to walk on & its the only way into the Inn. It is in great disrepair & the planks lift right up when u step on them. Most of the rooms need work and could be cleaner. However, we over look all that because its a beautiful house with big rooms & each room has a different theme. The gentleman that owns it is always so very nice & makes delicious breakfast! Its located off the main road & is quiet and cozy. We would definitely stay there again!

The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent!! Would like to have had a larger tv in the bedroom. Although it did not impact our comfort, there were holes in the bathroom wall below the sink area. I would definitely stay again and would recommend.

When we arrived, the steps to the door had packed snow and ice. They were not shoveled or even sanded. The TV was an old 13” which was about 12 ft from the bed, hard to see. There was only one roll of paper in the bathroom. No extra was provided. We were not happy with that. There were no tissues in the room. The only trash receptacle provided was a small can in the bathroom, nothing in the main bedroom. The wall under the bathroom sink was all torn apart exposing all of the plumbing. The AC was never taken out of the bedroom and it’s January 7th in Bew Hampshire. We were not impressed and will not be staying at the Red Elephant again.

Staff were very accommodating, room was fun and cozy.

Very romantic house but there is no elevator so if you have trouble walking, be sure to get the first floor room. The owner Rob helped get our luggage up the stairs to our charming room. Rob prepared a 4 course breakfast which was the best of our 16 day trip. Very gourmet!

The food is amazing. We stayed two years ago so this was a return trip. Owner is very friendly and accommodating. Bed was not comfortable for us. Needs some updating but we enjoyed our stay

The inn was charming and the spaces were beautifully decorated. Rob, who greeted us, was gracious and explained the amenities, both in our room and throughout the inn. Breakfast tasted like a gourmet chef had prepared it! The young woman who served it was sweet and quite efficient in her serving. Thumbs up, for sure!
