Awesome place

Such a beautiful place and location. A unique stay. We have stayed before that’s why we came again. Unfortunately we had some not so good experiences this time. Mostly with the restaurant. We brought friends with us and we all had different entrees the first night. Each one said the meal was not good! The service was very poor. Breakfast was good. Except for the pineapple/ coconut juice which had soured. But again very poor service. The second night we could only trust a pizza to be palatable. So unfortunate! Also no towels to dry hands in the bathroom off the bar. We mentioned this but nothing changed. If they could change the staff issue and better meals it would get a better rating.

A supremely good place to stay for enjoying the cloud rainforest, and birds. If you're an athlete you can either hike, run the trails, or jog/run the Quetzales grinder hill descent and climb and see the bird on the way.

Absolutely wonderful gardens and property

The scenery on this property was extraordinary! Perfect place for birdwatchers. We saw both the male and female elusive Resplendent Quetzal as well as many other birds of the area. We saw the Quetzal on the property. The guided birding walk was well worth the cost - highly recommended! The gardens around the property are amazing - words cannot express the beauty and tranquility. The food at the lodge is excellent and included trout from the local area.

The grounds are beautiful and very well looked after with many places to sit and relax. The staff are very friendly and personable and the breakfast was excellent.

We had a remarkable visit at this special place. We joined the early morning Quetzal Quest and saw a pair of Quetzals and nesting Toucanets. The next morning we saw more from the beautiful deck. The included breakfast was superb.

Spectacular scenery, went there for the birds & as a special finale to our mostly-hosteling trip. Did not disappoint. Everyone visitor to Costa Rica needs to experience this area.

Location and property are beautiful. The staff is wonderful. Food was delicious! We ate breakfast and dinner at the lodge for most meals because it was so good. Two things that would make the lodge perfect (and this is being picky!). Yoga classes, a hot tub. Area gets cold at night and there’s no true heating anywhere. Bundle up! Would stay again!!

Wonderful grounds and ideal location. Nice trails and very good restaurant. Plenty of food and choices. Nice bar area with fireplace and pool table.

If you love nature you will enjoy this place. Food is just great and personal very friendly.

When we spend this much on a hotel stay, we expect working heat and hot water. We had neither.

The gardens were just magnificent. The thread count on the bed was nice. The food was very expensive. $50 for 2 soups and a salad. Outrageous!

We only stayed 1 night because we were passing through from the west coast to the east coast. Big mistake!! Lovely grounds, very peaceful, with a nice trail hike on the property. I can't say enough about how beautiful the grounds are. Amazing design with several ponds, the beautiful flowing river on the property, bridges, etc. I wished we could've stayed longer. With that being said I should also point out that the drive down to the property is long and steep - the sign suggests using a lower gear - do this!! We overheated the brakes on our car which prevented us from leaving the property to get a late lunch. Luckily they do have a restaurant onsite, but they close in between lunch and dinner. The restaurant is amazing, but pricey (understandably). The cabins are definitely considered rustic. There is a plugin heater in each room - get it started right when you get there, as the nights are very cold and the rooms are not insulated. Bring warm pj's. hahaha You share a little porch with a connecting guest room. The walls are paper thin. We could hear every word, sneeze, pee from the people next door, it was almost embarrassing. So, in summary, beautiful place but almost wished they would've spent as much on the rooms as they did on the grounds. Oh, and the staff is great!!

We went to this magic place for two nights. Upon arrival we had a very warm welcome by Greivin. He explained us all about the lodge and the offered activities. Infected by his fascination with the wildlife in the area, especially his love of the quetzal, we booked a quetzal tour for the next morning. Lodge: Park-like setting with various pavilions with a lush flower garden and ponds. Already within the lodge there are many different species of birds. Many small places with seats, which invite to stay. Hummingbirds are everywhere. From the lodge, there are small hiking trails on which you can explore the surroundings. Accommodation: Small rustic rooms with verandas and views of the greenery. Since it can get quite chilly at night the rooms have a small electric heater. Restaurant / Bar: Simple menu with a good mix of local and international cuisine. Salad, herbs and trout come from own cultivation / breeding. The staff is very accommodating, and tries to cater to requests. Activities: On the quetzal tour early in the morning, we visited different places and observed quetzals. You can tell how much Greivin knows about nature and how important the quetzals and their conservation is to him. We felt very comfortable during our stay.

Comfortable beds, cozy cabin, great amenities. Restaurant and food was great, presentation, portions, decor, staff, quality. Great place to disconnect and recharge surrounded by nature.

Fantastic location, very friendly staff, beautiful garden and surroundings, comfortable room, and on top the amazing (and successful) search for the Quetzals in the morning. We just loved the place!

Staff are very helpful, food in the restaurant is excellent. Good location and super grounds and trail.

This lodge is among many lodges in this location all serving the ecotourists. To get here, you need a SUV to navigate the windy roads. The birding is outside the lodge grounds on the road where tons of other ecotourists gather At 6am to see the Quetzal eat avocado.

Our second time staying at Trogon - have stayed in three other hotels and one Airbnb in St. Gerardo de Dota. This is our favorite. They are recovering from Nate which wiped out a large part of the area, including roads, so give them your business!

This place is great to have a nice recess from all the noise of the city and to conect with the nature. Pretty nice!
