nice room ,clean and very quiet, also FRESH AIR available as it was possible to open the window instead of the usual plastic sealed room.shower room good, modern, heated towel rail ,no nasty tiles, illuminated mirror.Had lunch in the pub, absolutely fine but the real winner was the indian restaurant, part of the same business.Absolutely fantastic food.I was expecting standard dishes but this was different and great.Loved every minute of the stay

The hotel is lumped in with the bar and the restaurant in terms of staffing. It feels like an afterthought rather than really looking after guests.
Not enough staff. Not really knowledgeable when the hot water didn’t work when I wanted a shower in the morning. They had turned the water off so they could only offer a shower after breakfast when it had heated up.
Room was ok. Would have liked a bath but only a shower.
Disappointing stay, not good value at all.

I emailed the Hotel before writing this review, but have not received a reply back. So, here goes….for £94 per night B&B in high season, I did expect that the room would be basic. What I also expected was that the room would be clean. I unlocked the door to an unwelcoming room, drab and in need of decoration.
I was attending a wedding so needed a room as a base. I got back to the room quite late, and just needed to get into bed. Firstly, I couldn’t close the sash window, which could do with a good clean. I closed the curtains holding the bottom of the fabric because they were grimey. All of my bags went onto the desk because I felt the carpet and chair could also do with a good clean. When I pulled back the bottom sheet, the mattress protector was horribly stained that I slept, cold and miserable, on the top of the quilt.
The plug was jammed in the sink. I tried to push it up from underneath but it wouldn’t budge. It was also cracked. The toilet was clean and sanitised but I didn’t want to use the shower which was mouldy in places.
Everything could do with a deep clean and cheering up. The staff that I encountered were pleasant. I couldn’t face breakfast there so I checked out and ate elsewhere.
If anyone asked me today if I would recommend The Kings Head Hotel, I certainly wouldn’t.

90 quid for a narrow single bed and a tiny shower room in a cupboard on a high street in South Wales is pushing it if you ask me. I booked it out of desperation but l have stayed in many way way nicer places on many occasions for a little over half that price. Why so expensive?!?!

Excellent location near the market and an easy walk from the train station.

Very enjoyable stay at an old building which has been carefully modernised apart from the bar's stone floor which is. probably, not allowed to be changed. Excellent staff and breakfast.

Lovely stay at the Kings Head, Abergavenny, lovely friendly staff, comfortable and clean rooms, very quiet only downside was the parking as they shut off the street between 8 am and 4pm, plenty of car parks close by though.

Hotel very central in Abergavenny! Lively hotel restaurant and attached bar area.
Single room was very clean super shower and clean comfortable bed. If you want to get to sleep before 11.00 on Saturday night there will be noise from bar (singer performing) Wi-Fi was good in room and tea/coffee making facilities!
Just two negatives
Advertised parking the hotel has no actual carpark and is in a pedestrian area on Saturday!
I booked in at reception which is actually the restaurant so quite busy
All in all an excellent two nights for the price 😀

This was an unexpected stop for us. The hotel was basic. Cleanliness and comfort were average. The room was small. We did not eat there. Parking was easy. If I were to return to Abergavenny, I would try a different hotel.

Very convenient…right in the heart of Abergavenny. Lovely comfy bed so good night sleep with a hearty breakfast served next morning by nice staff.

This was a small quirky hotel above a pub & restaurant. The building was ancient, and no walls were parallel, not floors were level. Top floor rooms were quiet at night and I really liked the whole package. Pub had some covered "drinking booths" out front IN the street parking spots. The restaurant had very good food Indian/Asian/fusion, though we just sampled several appetizers/combos.

Staff were very helpful. The super single room at the top of the hotel was quiet, excellent comfy double bed.

chosen as was within walking distance to the hospital. Nice stay, pleasant staff and good food. Could park outside at night and at hospital during the day. Abergavenny town is such a lovely area to visit.

Room was good standard. The rest of the place was dirty and noisy.

Overall the stay was really pleasing, the room was okay, bit dated and tired looking but staff at hotel and adjoining restaurant were really lovely and delivered a great service. Complimentary water in room is always a nice touch, as well as regular tea and coffee/ biscuits. Had a lovely indian meal in the evening, so tasty and reasonably priced. The breakfast, which was included in the price was very tasty. Continental and full cooked breakfast, with numerous options available. Would recommend and definitely stay here again if in the area!!

Friendly staff - and the breakfast was good. I had a twin room which was clean and very tired. It felt like it had last been updated sometime in the 1970s. Old fashioned and in desperate need of a freshen up. Photo is taken from my bed looking towards the loo/shower room door - that's the TV up on the top left. For what I paid - I have to say it felt expensive for what I got.

Staff were great especially in the hotel bar but very tired and grubby family room was supplied. Home made room furniture, from planks/pallets (Im not sure) peeling wallpaper below rads, slumped singke bedframe (not used) with cheap double draw divan having been 'improved'...? by a pallet wood surround. Pictures on the web are clearly very very old or if another hotel compared to our room. Avoid at all costs. There are many better establishments for this amount of money. This was truely one of the poorest rooms ive stayed in, but for 1 night after along day, we couldnt be bothered to complain. just take our experience if you are looking at this and go elsewhere

Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff were lovely with a quick check-in. Paid extra for a superior room which was great for the first 2 nights of our stay. The room had an adjoining door and on the last night the adjoining room was occupied but a loud and obnoxious family whose child screeched loudly for most of the evening. father (I assume) then proceeded to make loud phone calls until well past midnight. As there is no hotel reception or phone in the rooms you can not contact anyone so unless we wanted a confrontation with clearly rude and obnoxious people we were stuck. Being partially deaf I couldn't even block out the mans incessant drone even with loo roll stuff in my ears which may give an idea of how loud he was after his child has stopped screeching.I guess we were lucky that it as only one night and not the 3 we stayed or we would have come home early. Despite the good location and other positives mentioned not sure we would stay here again as we were absolutely wrecked the next morning after a dreadful nights sleep.

Do not stay at this hotel on a Friday when there's live music if you want a good night sleep. The noise didn't stop until after 12:30.
Other customers complained as well as me and were told "oh you drew the short straw".

Everything was fine until the last night at 10.30 when the bar either had a massive delivery of beer kegs or they started playing skittles with them!! Either way when you have to be up at 5.45 the next morning it’s not much fun
