Fantastic experience from arrival, stunning place with everything on your doorstep.

Could do with some spending on it

Had a wonderful stay for one night. It is a castle and do not expect the luxury of a 5 star hotel as they are keeping it authentic. Good sized. Bathroom and very comfortable. Great grounds that you can walk for miles. Staff excellent and dining room superb.

Lovely, characterful place to stay in a beautiful town. Friendly staff, lovely grounds, beautiful country walks just a short walk away, the town was a little quiet on a Tuesday night but we still found a lovely restaurant to eat in. Highly recommended!

The hotel is situated in a beautiful area. The small village has 1 or 2 dinner possibilities around the market place and is charming - at least the center is. The hotel could use a lick of paint here ant there and you see that the owners do their best, but the castle is very large and surely there is much to do. They have tried to connect modernity and antique, of which I like the latter more. I visited the fitness studio, which was ok. There is a restaurant in the hotel with good food and cool beer. Be prepared to meet sheep lingering outside when you walk to your car. When we were there, there were enough parking spaced.

Impressive property,beautiful grounds, lovely room,showerhead had pink mould,abit off putting but generally good .You can't sit outside to eat in the evening which is a shame and the casual dine menu that is on till 9 isn't.Check in 3 pm quite late if you have a baby but check out was 12.The lady in charge of restaurant taking payment never smiled or spoke,the other members of staff Kate and Barbara on reception very proffesional.Breakfast underwhelming,fruit salad I imagined allsorts but was prunes and oranges only.Bread was ready sliced plastic wrap bread.Peacocks,rabbits the odd sheep wonderful to observe.7 out of 10.We would return but lower expectations for breakfast.

Pleasant large air conditioned room. Nice surroundings. Good value for money. We will return. Only negative was damp on ceiling, which we could forgive due to nature of the building and being on the third floor. The cleaning could have been a little better also.

The castle was full of character and the surrounding grounds wonderful. Facilities were excellent and staff really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at Ruthin Castle for the second year in a row, and I have to say it did not go as smoothly as last year. We were offered an upgrade to a feature room, but it did not meet our needs so had to move to a 3rd room which was also far from ideal. The staff tried there best to help us but it proved to be a stressful experience finding a room we were happy with. We were booked for 3 nights, but did not properly unpack until late on Day 2. In hindsight, we should have kept the room we were given at the start as the upgrade offered proved to be a mistake.

Fascinating building in a beautiful setting.We required a room with our dog so chose a suite. On arrival we were blown away by the premises and it's location. Impressive entrance and brilliant receptionist, who showed me our room. Walking through the hotel, looking at the decor, artworks and history was a bonus. The suite we had, fulfilled all our needs especially as we had our dog. Apart from the bedroom with a bath, we had a shower room , study and walk in wardrobe.The extensive gardens and countryside were a pleasure to walk and the town was a 5 minute walk away. We enjoyed the food there and the garden was a great place to have a meal and drink. The peacocks were amazing and ok around our dog who even though a puppy wasn't bothered by them.The staff were very friendly and great with our dog. We booked the premises as a base to visit Snowdonia and Chester areas. The staff gave us a leaflet on the history of the building and castle, which helped appreciate the building even more. A wonderful experience and we will definitely return .

Lovely surroundings and a great one night stay for wedding.Room 108 was ok,could do with a little love and attention but did the job.The garden's and little nook's and crannie's were gorgeous.Would stay again.

Lovely setting with peacocks every where. Beautiful landscaped gardens with a lovely outside seating area. Kind staff and lovely ambience. We'll be back!

The castle has so much history it’s so interesting, team were very friendly all of them & welcoming , food was really good and rooms spacious and comfortable ( could do with a deep clean to remove dust )

We had such a magical stay at Ruthin Castle. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is such a unique find. It feels like you are truly stepping back in time. We loved that fact that so much of the castle is open to the public. You can relax in many of the side rooms and walk around the grounds. It does not feel corporate and sterile but instead is imbued with quirkiness and wonder. Some people complain that it could do with a lick of paint, but that’s the charm of the place. It feels aged and of another era (or realm)!! We took our dog with us and he had the time of his life. The staff were so friendly and he was given dog treats (and a sausage for breakfast). The most magical experience was wandering around the grounds and seeing the magnificent peacocks. We can’t wait to come back. We normally opt to stay at a Premier Inn or the equivalent. It was really worth paying the lextra to get such a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to come back (will bring the daughter next time as she’ll also fall in love with the place)!! Thanks so much to all the amazing staff!

A fantastic place to stay

Bedrooms are very dated and in need of redecoration . Bathroom had cobwebs around the sink and bath , sheets were stained as was the carpets. Bedroom curtains don’t cover the windows fully so very light in the morning. Mirror by the dressing table was on an angle so have to sit sideways to look in the mirror. No usb plug sockets

Good value hotel set in an ancient castle so a long walk for guests and staff!

Had a nice evening away food was excellent as was the service will definitely be back for a longer stay

What can i say , your staying in a castle , the grounds are beautiful , i spent hours exploring in and around the castle , the room was good and the breakfast was a buffet style breakfast with hot and cold food . All in all a lovely stay

Fantastic surroundings & next to the village Staff friendly and helpful Rooms & stairway/ corridors in need of revamping ,repairs tired and worn out 30years plus style. Spa and Jacuzzi is brilliant with castle and woods surroundings

I feel the price of the stay was a little steep for the area and the condition of the hotel, public areas are mostly kept nice but toilets and rooms need some TLC with patchy paint, cracks and missed cleaning (e.g. extractor fans). Then to also ask for an additional £20pp to use the spa facilities was unreasonable I thought. The grounds are lovely, as are the Peacocks, until you try to sleep of course and could hear them squawking all night - leading to a not so restful nights sleep.

We stayed in the Hotel on route to other activities in Wales. It is a lovely hotel in fantastic grounds. The hotel in parts needs a little TLC but we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Breakfast was great and the staff very friendly and professional. We would definitely stay again.

A rubbish breakfast

The interior is in need of repair. Many missing or dirty ceiling tiles, paint needs to be refreshed. The spa had mold in the room for mud treatments. When we requested our room be refreshed, we were given one body towel with a rip in it, there was no facial tissue, the “toiletries” were none, one bottle of “hand, body, shampoo” mix. The toilet was difficult to flush. When we left, the door literally broke. The staff were all amazing and the outdoor grounds beautiful. I would not pay $1600 Canadian to stay there again.
