Room was very clean and tidy.Everything was good except the T V did not work.Receptionist replaced T V when we were out so all good.

Very basic , only entertainment was a " northern sole night " and was asked to pay £5 eeach for access to the bar ?
3.4
‘Free car parking’ was taken up by 7 maintenance vans parked all over the place.
Room was exceptionally hot and the shower was scalding hot.
TV also kept coming randomly during the middle of the night.
Phone didn’t work to call reception. Cleaners shouting in the hall from 7.30am.
Cleaners didn’t make up bed just emptied bin.
Ceiling covered in cracks and cobwebs and rain dripping on me whilst I checked in at reception

Cheap stay, happy with the price! Large room & bathroom straight across from the train station! No complaints for a 2 star hotel.. Would i stay again mabye

Very comfortable bed and pillows. Room was at back of hotel so was fairly quiet. Most enjoyable stay.

It's an old building so yes you guessed it some things in there may well be old!
Consider the Premier Inn and other hotels in the area were around double the price then this place offered good value for money and is very central and convenient, free parking too which is a bonus.

Comfortable

As nice hotel just outside the railway station and on the A6 main road into Carlisle it was easy to find. Instructions for finding the car park would help.
3.4
Window wouldn't shut. Room temperature very hot not control. Noisy
3.4
Very central for train station and easy access to city centre.
Booked a triple room for myself and 2 friends to visit Cumbria Pride. The hotel was the cheapest available which initially concerned me however all concerns were gone after arriving. Ample car parking available, friendly staff and room was comfortable and clean. My only comment is that the bathroom could benefit from a little refurb to be more appeasing to guests expectations and room didn't get replenished during our stay
Would definitely book here if visiting again

Great hotel, great location not far from the railway station and town centre.good pub and takeaway around the Area

The County Hotel is very conveniently positioned for the railway station and has its own car park which is free to guests. It is surrounded by eating places from fish and chips to a very good Chinese buffet restaurant. There is plenty of nightlife too. Our room was a large family room for 3 adults at the rear of the hotel so was relatively quiet and comfortable. There is a lift to all 3 floors but some corridors and even rooms have steps in them so make enquiries about access if you have mobility issues. We have stayed here before and would be happy to stay here again in the future.

Staff were very helpful.
Breakfast was great..Hotel was most convenient for Railway,Cathedral and bars/restaurants.
We stayed an extra night because it was so good.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in August 2024 on our way up north. The hotel provided good value-for-money accommodation at the price we paid. It is a budget hotel though, so do not expect luxury at this price.
The car parking is a bit chaotic. We arrived around 6pm and managed to get the last available place between two rubbish skips. We also struggled to find it, but that may just have been our ineptness.
The receptionist on arrival was friendly, helpful and efficient and the room, although basic, was clean, with en-suite bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. Everything worked ok. In general the hotel was clean and uncluttered.
Breakfast was a help-yourself buffet style with plenty of hot food, fruit, juices, yoghurts, toast, tea/coffee and so on.
For what we paid, this was a perfectly acceptable hotel.

A great value clean and comfortable hotel in city centre.. staff friendly and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Dated hotel creaking floor boards all over, noisy area, but not disturbed much, ok for a couple of nights for a wedding.

Good stay again at the County.New stairway carpets which has helped freshen the look of the place .Overall good stay.

Was very impressed at the friendliness of the staff, they took great care of us and let us park our car before check-in and even after checking out. Very charming old school hotel.
3.4
Great location opposite train station close to shops restaurants and bars.

very noisy room if going back would ask for a back room

Tha window in the room didnt close so noise of the traffic was constant. My feet stuck to the carpet in the room, it was so filthy.

We checked in at about 21.00 & given room 110, unpacked our bits & popped out for food, only to notice the door lock was broken and the door wouldnt lock. Down to reception and moved next door to room 109, not for long as the windows wouldnt open (Hot Room). Back to reception to try get another room. 317 was given and this was acceptable even though we had to use a can of deodorant to jam the window open! A ver comfortable sleep and as we had bother getting a room that worked the lovely reception lad (Dale) chuck a free breakfast in for the 3 of us - which was 110% - very nice. Plenty to choose from Buffet. Stay again - Yes!

Central location is convenient for the railway station. VERY noisy with loud music from next door, WiFi was not available although advertised as having it. This was very inconvenient for me as I had planned to do some on line lessons while away.
3.4
Staff were lovely - very friendly and helpful. Car parking is free if car is registered in hotel. And car park has 24hr surveillance. Room and bathroom were huge. But - this hotel desperately needs some TLC. Flooring (including the VERY loud floorboards making it sound like there's a herd of elephants having a dance-off on the next floor up!); the windows which wouldnt close; the mildew on the wall near the fire exit - I could go on. I was glad I was only there for one night as I didn't like the look of the shower. Also the nightclub opposite was EXTREMELY loud (not helped by permanently open window) and went on till about 2am. Not usual for a Monday but obviously if you were to stay at the weekend this would have to be your expectation.
3.4
Lovely hotel right in the center of town. It’s clean & has helpful staff
3.4
Ok for a night stop. Room was not very clean.
3.4
Reasonably priced hotel in the middle of the city.
Rooms were large and clean but decor was a bit tired.
Because of the location, the room was very noisy!
3.4
Hotel does need to brought up-to-date, the room was literally like a trying to sleep in a furnace. The little fan just moved very hot air around the room. The decor looks quite grubby but the bathroom had been cleaned with a stinky mop and although clean looking it smelled. That being said the bed was actually quite comfortable albeit due to the heat I couldn’t sleep.
3.4
Staff excellent.Room 124 in need of an upgrade bathroom like a black hole .
Breakfast excellent.

Check in was quick and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We booked in for convenience to the railway station. We knew it was an older property and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the furnishings. Our room overlooked the main road and we heard a lot of external noise. The hotel was obviously short staffed during a busier than usual week due to Graduations at the Cathedral but the staff were really working hard and keeping cheerful and helpful going above and beyond at times. Reception staff supporting Housekeeping staff for example.
3.4
Basic amenities in room, was allocated what appeared to be an ‘add on room’ it was a genuine 2minute walk both up and down 8 flights of steps to get to a ‘1st floor’ bedroom at the furthest end of the numerous corridors. We bumped into other guests who were equally at one stage ‘lost’ in the rabbit warren.
The room itself was clean and spacious, only 1 light working in the room hallway between the front door and bathroom. The bedroom was spacious, i personally bumped my head on the low eaves twice as they were painted white - same as the walls. The bed was comfortable. There was no mini fridge in the room, no air conditioning, there was two very large skylight windows - only way to pull the shutters down and open the windows was to stand on the desk chair. The room was very stuffy without having these open even a crack. They had to be closed at night due to seagulls - there was no fan or dehumidifiers to reduce the temperature of the room.
The bathroom was excessively huge, outdated, and needing some tidying up with grouting, re-tiling and de-scaling, again one huge skylight window which needed the chair from the bedroom to open - no handles or access tools without a chair.
Breakfast was pleasant enough, believed it was purchased at the time of booking, but was informed this wasn’t the case. Cost £18 for two adults, standard buffet cooked items, bowls of fruit and yoghurts, cereals, tea & coffee - overpriced for what it was.
Overall give this hotel ‘average’ rating.

Nothing
Had to move out because the room was terribly hot and the windows could not be opened.
We left and went somewhere else
3.4
Definitely recommend staff all nice and helpful breakfast was good and plentiful but don't bother booking meals as Wetherspoons is directly across the street
3.4
I love the characters of the Hotel and its convenient central location. But it is starting to become a little on the expensive side, so they need to be careful.
3.4
Nice stay, parking directions was a little tricky for tourists.
3.4
Staff wasn’t very friendly. We were told parking was free and received a citation a week later. Although we were told they would handle it if we sent the citation it is still inconvenient.
3.4
The room felt a little isolated from the world - only having a window looking out on to a tiny, and rather dingy, enclosed area. (Don't suppose anything can be done about that, so perhaps it's an unfair criticism!)

Old , noisy,
