We go on a Guys Trip to Vegas every year during Cowboy Week (World Rodeo Finals). We always stay at the El Cortez. Reasonable rates, nice rooms, small but functional casino, FREE parking (with in & out privileges), and it's within easy walking distance of all Downtown attractions.

We stayed at the El Cortez due to learning about the history of the hotel from our last visit on a walking tour. We stayed in the "cabanas" which were located across the street from the main building. I wish this was made cleared before check-in. The hotel has a very old 50s/60s vibe to it. Rooms are also painted in that way as well. However, we weren't thrilled with the rooms. They look like they've been updated recently but halfheartedly. If I was to stay here again I would choose a different style of room.

For the most part it was just what was needed. Quiet spacious room with excellent room service. I didn't like the bathroom configuration with the door being in the way of getting in the shower but overall everything was good. I would stay again for sure.

Room was clean and updated. The casino is old but it looks like they’re updating the rest. Too much smoke for me to gamble there

I stayed in the new rooms it was ok the mattress was old and you can feel the springs I could hear the music from out side with everything shut

Just hanging out for the days after Thanksgiving had a blast

Greeters were homeless and throughout the casino.

I stayed in downtown Las Vegas to avoid the madness of The Strip. Close to Fremont Experience and some nice dining spots nearby (check out Parlour for excellent coffee and breakfast options). I was in the Cabana Suites which are small but totally functional. The only problem was the bed (hard and small) and the pillows (lumpiest on the planet). So, the quality of sleep wasn't great. Quiet spot however if a neighbor closes their door you'll hear a sonic BOOM that might startle you. Overall, worth the price. But that's if you can survive the bed and pillows.

Great place to stay

One of the most unpleasant stays, I have ever had at a hotel. Believe it or not, in the middle of winter, they did not have working heat. Their solution when we complained about that was to offer us a blanket.
In the morning (big surprise) there was also no hot water. Avoid this place like the plague!

There for our daughter’s wedding and we had a great time! Loved that this was an adult only hotel! Great stairwell for pics too!!

I liked my room, the outdoor noise from the music at the outdoor tourist Freemont Street. There were only 2 things in the room that should make note: The bathroom there should be ONE more towel bar for a room with two beds, and the rounded bed poles are a bit of a problem making in tight to get around...wasn't a good choice in selecting a bed for that space. Also, the garages should have visible floor numbers so you can see where you are parked. Had the hardest time finding the floor my car was parked.

Great stay, very friendly Casino.

WiFi was spotty, it kept dropping after establishing. Front desk told me to go back to my room and call "0", did so and spent 15 minutes with WiFi help. It remained spotty the rest of my stay (2 days).
Walls are super thin. You hear EVERYTHING from neighboring rooms. Also, our room was toward the back end of the hotel, across the street from the "Container Park", which has a show that runs past 1 am on weekends. It is VERY LOUD!

We arrived at what seemed like a lovely hotel and were happy with our room, despite some brown stains on the bathroom wall. After unpacking, we had a meal and explored the Fremont experience. Returning to the room, we cooled down before heading out for a late dinner and got back just before midnight. My grown son had a shower, and I was in the shower when security delivered a notice that we were being charged for smoking in the room.
I immediately went to the front desk to dispute this, only to be told I had to speak to the manager in the morning. While there, I saw another guest receiving the same notice. The next day, the manager insisted the smoke detector was 100% accurate and that the charge was non-negotiable. Despite explaining that we don't smoke and suggesting 3rd hand smoke from walking through the casino might be the issue, they refused to reconsider. I was told that if the sensor went off again, we’d be charged every time it went off, so we chose to check out early.
We reported the issue to the Better Business Bureau, and the hotel responded that they had video surveillance of us entering the room when the sensor went off. However, the video does not prove smoking occurred. On our shuttle ride to the airport, we overheard a couple from Texas share the same experience, though they managed to get their fee reduced. This seems like a money grab under the guise of "non-negotiable" fees. We do not recommend this hotel, if you want a discount hotel try the Four Queens

Our stay never happened. House keeping is either severely overworked or don't know what is necessary for a clean room. The first room booked for us had hairs in the corners of the showers and stained sheets. The second room had less hair in the shower, but hair all over the bathroom floor. The shower glass had build up soap scum and calcium deposits about a quarter of the way up from the floor.
We canceled our reservation and we were about to leave when the hotel manager was told about our experience. He offered to upgrade us to another room and would personally escort us up there to inspect.
This room was also dirty. There was hair in the shower and dried shampoo/conditioner on the shower tiles and shower ledge.
If all that uncleanliness was seen when we walked in, what is it we AREN'T seeing?
Let me be clear, we had an issue with housekeeping, but the service was excellent. The manager, hotel clerk, valet, and security guards were all friendly and very professional. None of that matters though, if your room isn't clean.
After driving five hours to Las Vegas, we then had to scramble to find another room, with dinner and evening plans on the clock.
Never again.

The El Cortez isn't the fanciest, but everyone I dealt with from the hotel staff to the dealers was friendly. For the price it's hard to find a better experience.

Nice room. Loved the decor and that the cabanas were separate from main hotel. Enjoyed free and convenient parking. Easy walk to the old strip. Will come back here again.

It is actually a nice hotel, but it is very loud so being earplugs to sleep.
The location is great and the rooms nielce and clean.

The Cabana Suites provides a wonderful 1950s Vegas vibe at a very affordable price.
The suite was huge. The couch and chair were very comfortable. The shower was nice with good water pressure. The bed was a tad too firm for us. The Cabana Suites are off Ogden St, one block from Fremont St. You are right by the excitement but far enough way so you won't be disturbed by the noise at night.

It is not unique to the El Cortez that many of the hotel providers in Las Vegas use low wattage light bulbs in the rooms. We will avoid traveling to Las Vegas on or during any holiday in the future because all properties increase rates by more than 100% during these times. Frankly no property is worth it!

All staff was very accommodating, very friendly, and extremely knowledgeable of the happenings around the casino/hotel. We were extremely satisfied and will return soon.

I enjoyed my stay. Couple of issues you should be aware of. The shower door would not stay closed and I was unable to control the temperature in the room. Also the shower was stuck on VERY hot and could not use the controls to decrease temp

Aside from issues at check-in w/ total price per the front desk being much higher than my reservation on hotels.com (which the front desk ultimately honoring the latter total), the place was great! Super location, good food, fun slot machines. We will stay again!

The rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable. The only thing that I didn't like was the bathroom. There was no privacy at all. There was a door to the toiled and shower, but there as an opening at the top of the door so anyone you are in the room with can hear your business.
Besides that the room was nice.

I had a very good and easy time at El Cortez, and for the price I am absolutely happy about my stay.
The tower room was renovated to a modern vintage, washroom was clean, shower head strong.
Bed was not the most comfortable and housekeeping needs to check the sheets for stains.
Ice machine on my floor, free parking in a structure!

I checked into a cabana suite for a 4 night stay. Neither of the AC units did not work properly in the room. The unit by the bed won't turn on and the one behind the couch won't turn off till you turn it off, and reset the circuit breaker, no matter what the thermostat is set at. The shower floor and glass doors needed cleaning. The TV kept turning off at random intervals on the first night. Hard to understand the assistant behind the desk at club cortez. She gave the instructions too fast and was not welcoming at all. The meal service at Seigels was much better at the breakfast I had on the 2nd day of my visit, than the dinner service on my first night. The food was excellent though. Overall, you can't beat its location or the effort they've made to preserve its original feel and appearance. I got great service from the valet staff with assisting me with Uber. There wasn't enough lighting in the suite or outlets. If I return to Vegas, I would be willing to stay here again, but I would stay in the tower and not the cabana suites. Its location makes it worth the price if you want to explore downtown and things around Fremont St.

Close to Freemont st but away 10km from Strip main attractions. Hotel is good , parking is close . In general was good.

Falsely accused of smoking in a nonsmoking room. The $300 charge was lifted, but only after the accusation ruined the trip home and led to 12 hours of anger/frustration. It reminded me of when housekeeping stole roughly $1,000 from the money envelope in my bag a couple of years ago. A good deal from hotels.com was the only reason I stayed again. I have three free nights in December, and that will be the last of my interaction with the Cortez, which used to be my favorite hotel by far.

The El Cortez is an historic property that’s been completely remodeled recently. The prices are reasonable, and the rooms are gorgeous. Staying downtown is much cheaper and relaxed than the strip, and transportation to and from the strip is easy and fast.
