Beautiful location, roads leading to the property is not in great shape but the rooms sure deliver. Food options were limited for vegetarians but they do have options

A lovely hotel with beautiful grounds looking across the could forest area. Heated pool was a lovely place to relax after taking trips in the surrounding areas.

Fantastic breakfast - staff at bar and breakfast were 5 star- so helpful and polite. Front desk staff was ok. Tv didn’t work and they told us a random excuse (tv’s working at the bar but not in the rooms?) - seems like many rooms didn’t have a tv that worked. Rooms were amazing - lots of space and clean. Towels provided for the pool. Again, staff at restaurant were A1.

Here you are in touch with nature. This was our 2nd visit to Fondavela. If we come back to Monteverde in the future, we will stayed with them for sure. To be honest the restaurant it’s pretty descent but you can find better options outside the hotel.

Beautiful grounds with amazing people. The bed was awful, there is no hot tub, and the food is ok. To me is was a $150 a night room but with a few improvements would justify the price.

Great hotel, don’t hesitate to stay here. Had a family of eight in two rooms. Rooms were clean and neat and very nice.

Nature around the hotel was great. We saw many tropical birds including toucans. Staff was very kind and helpful. We would highly recommend it.

The path to the rooms is not paved causing damage to luggage wheels. There are no other restaurants nearby for lunch or dinner. Very limited items for breakfast. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Beautiful hotel minutes from Monteverde biological preserve. The hot tubs were out of service the day we were there which was a disappointment because it was cold and rainy. But we passed our time at the bar instead and David behind the bar was great!

The property is beautiful and well kept with a nice walking trail that circles the perimeter. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Pool was fabulous and a nice break after touring all day.

Our stay at Fondavela was great. The staffs are very friendly and nice. We should give 5 star for that. Our room was alright. We did see some bugs but given that it is surrounded by forest we can understand that. The restaurant on property was good. We played pool at the bar and relaxed.

Beautiful Property! Nice updated rooms and bathrooms. Animals on the property including monkeys in their trail. Need clearer instructions on where to park for some rooms. Theres abit of walk from the car to the room. Breakfast service was good and front desk was helpful! Alot of noise of the rain and wind inside the room which did wake me up a couple of times!

Beautiful property, close proximity to the reserve and town.

We liked this hotel. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. We happen to be there during a very windy days and we could hear the wind in the room. It was SUPER windy and we could definitely hear it all. Also, they were doing work on the pool which was close to our room...and every morning at 6am when the workers came in there was A LOT of noise: them yelling, banging, etc... So, it impacted our stay for sure. We didn't sleep to well. Plus, we didn't have access to the pool because they were working on it.

I imagine that at one time this was a nice property and maybe it will be one day, but not now. We booked this hotel because it was listed with a pool. The pool was under construction. When I approached the subject with the staff, they rudely told me that they had informed the websites and it was there fault it was not taken down. Then in the dining room we met others who had chosen the hotel for the pool as well - they had booked through another site, making clear this was not Expedia's fault, but there own. They refuse to take responsibility for it. Had we known they did not have a pool, we could have stayed some where cheaper and closer to town. As this hotel is outside of town, through a very torn up/pot filled hotel. Besides the lack of pool and lack of helpful response from this hotel, the newly renovated showers flood the bathroom so there is no way to have a dry bathroom. If you like to wear socks in your room, find some where else. If you travel with clothes that you hang up - find somewhere else. There is no closet, and their solution was to put hangers on a towel rack, so your choice is either to hang your towels or clothing... but wait the hangers dont actually fit on the towel rack, so plan on your clothes ending up on the floor. Lastly, if you have any sensitivity to light, I do not recommend that you stay here. Our room had a wall of glass blocks with no way of shading, so we woke up every morning at 530am to sun streaming in. I would not stay here again.

Loved our stay here. The property was beautiful. Our room was lovely. The staff were all so friendly and went out of their way to make our stay amazing. The food is delicious, drinks were great and all the restaurant staff were exceptional.

I wish I could give Fonda Vela 6 out of 5. The road from Santa Elana was fun, take your time you'll get there. The property was spectacular. Properly placed to enjoy every sunset. About a 25 minutes walk up to Monte Verde Park. Our room was recently renovated and was beautiful. The local coffee in the room was delicious. Beds, shower, views were all perfect. The restaurant on site makes you not want to look any further. Dinner was fantastic. Try the coffee ice cream. Breakfast is included and will prep you for your day of exploration. Freddy (I think his name was) was a gracious host at the restaurant. He even included us in the feeding of Matéo the hotel monkey. The desk can help you book local tours etc. They set us up for ziplining. The property is truely in the clouds. Early mornings and after sunset the mist comes in and makes this property truely magical. If my wife and I ever head back to Monte Verde we will definitely stay here again.

I like that this property is remote and close to the cloud forest.

Very nice property grounds and great location. Restaurant is overpriced. Hot tubs were out of order during our visit and we found out the hard way that tre “standard” rooms are too small and cramped. The “Standard Comfort” rooms are more spacious and are the ones showcased on the Expedia website as “Standard”

Beautiful views. We couldn’t work out times to eat here with our activities.

Great hotel and room. Very poor hot water pressure in shower. Check and move rooms if not to your liking. Otherwise it was great. Great drink and meal after a late night tour. Exceptional staff. The local tour guides and taxi drivers were available when you need them so don't worry about the walk to Santa Elena. I would stay again.

Good location and the room we stayed in had been recently refurbished. Complimentary breakfast was excellent. Lunch and dinner options were a little premium. Drinking water available for sale. No complimentary water available.

This is our favorite hotel near the San Jose area and was our third time staying here. Beautiful inside and out. Birds everywhere. Has nice pool areas, restaurants, bars, and shops. Very friendly staff as well.
