If peace and serenity are what you are looking for, Barefoot Cay Resort is ideal. As a boutique resort with a limited number of accommodations you can easily avoid the crowds. Although there were a few other guests, my wife and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed sitting on the beach and snorkeling off the pavilion with no distractions. Relaxing on the pavilion, feeling the breeze and listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks after snorkeling was so relaxing. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating.

A unique private property. Beautifully updated. The staff are professional and kind people. You wont regret a stay at this beautiful gem.

The property was very clean and spacious. The staff was extremely helpful and inviting. The only qualm I might say is the food was not that great, and given the fact that there were limited options around the area, I expected better. There is no shortage of mosquitos, but the hotel kindly provided natural repellant spray. Overall, the property was lovely and a great introduction to Roatán.

It feels very exclusive and very quiet

We loved our stay at this resort. The vibe, the food, the layout - everything was great.

Beautiful secluded property. Perfect for folks really interested in diving. Less so if looking for a vacation oasis. No beach or spa. Mainly pool or palapa for relaxing. That said, restaurant was delicious and we booked an array of offsite activities that were fun.

This place is a little bit secluded but it's own oasis. They only have 1 restaurant so if you want something other than that you will have to catch a cab. They had a shuttle and it cost more than a cab but it's a modern, clean, new van and you're not sharing it.
I agree with most of the comments. It's a beautiful resort. Our room was a studio with modern furniture, clean and a beautiful layout. Large private porch that over looked the lagoon. A full size kitchen with modern appliances.
They only have a very small beach area that was secluded but it felt 'weird', if something happened in the water absolutely no one was around. We sat out for a bit but didn't go in. It's a long walk to get to it.
My only complaint - more observation - is the restaurant and servers are VERY slow. We ate there 3 times on our overnight stay:
Late lunch, drinks, dessert and breakfast.
ALL the staff is amazing!
But I couldn't figure out what was going on with the service. I don't know if they wanted you to wave or call out to the servers when you needed something or what.
You were greeted with amazing friendliness, kindness and attention. The next thing we know: our water wasn't refilled, I wasn't asked if I wanted another drink until I not only drank mine but half of my wives. They had a few folks so we figured that was the reason. But we returned to sit by the pool for drinks. We were there for 10 minutes - the only folks there. My wife had to go up and ask if we can order a drink and again.

There were 8 of us there for my friend's 50th birthday. It could not have been more perfect. The Silversides Restaurant prepared the most amazing meal! The staff was so friendly and helpful and our accommodations were spacious, immaculate, very comfortable and had great views!

Great place for divers, and the dive company with valet service is great, but snorkelers beware, there is NO house reef and no swimming from your beautiful villas. The ocean is less than 2 ft deep for forever, filled with grass, bits of fire coral and the occasional scorpionfish (reef shoes people!!). You can swim off of the palapa, but there is nothing really to "see". you have to get off the resort to get any reef. The week we were there, there was a new kitchen company. The existing staff was great trying to feed people, but for the first half of the stay, there was no alcohol. I mean, not even rum. And you would have to go down at least two menu choices before they would have something they could cook. Communication between the new company and the existing general management was pitiful.

The man at the front desk was so welcoming and flexible with our checkout time. They made us a welcome drink and had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room!
10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone looking for an awesome place to stay and take in the beauty of Roatan.

The private beach is beautiful, all you need is located at the hotel. If you want to go snorkeling as a beginner the property has its own area with a sunken Volkswagen. If you are an expert, they have diving tours and equipment, no need to go anywhere else. The staff is amazing also.

Liked that it was nice and quiet. Didn’t like that it didn’t have its own little beach. But overall a nice place to stay.

This is a peaceful, tranquil, out of the way hotel. This was our first time on the island (hopefully not the last) so we didn’t know how everything was situated. We booked the hotel based on the pictures and it being basically on the water.
This hotel is mainly for hard core divers, which we were not. They offer full service diving, they even wash your wet suit!
Fir that reason, the divers take off in the morning and the hotel is quiet during the day. This was perfect for us as we were happy to frolic freely around the property and take pictures or lay around the pool. Because there’s so few people during the day, the staff get to know you and take good care of you. We left a couple of things on the property and their staff turned them in to the office to return them to us. We felt safe and well cared for. Their restaurant food is very tasty. We took a cab to do some activities around the island and then went back to our tranquil little spot to relax.
Their driver, Ken, is very knowledgeable about the island and was more than a cab driver, he was also an excellent guide. We definitely recommend Barefoot Cay!

It was a complete oasis for our family. It is a beautiful resort and the service was great!

I was concerned that our cottage did not have air-conditioning when I booked the Grand Villa. I was assured that the air conditioning was sufficient and that the upstairs bedroom would be comfortable at night because of the cool breeze. Nothing could be further from the truth. The whole house (which was laid out beautifully) stayed hot and humid all day and all night. The master bedroom had a wall unit but it didn’t decrease the temperature or humidity. Our bedding and especially the pillows smelled like mildew and the beddding was always damp when it was time for bed. The upstairs bedroom was stifling hot and our kids ended up staying with friends at another resort because they weren’t able to sleep in the sweltering heat. We couldn’t really use the house like we planned because it was so hot and humid all the time. All our food would get soggy unless we kept it in the refrigerator. The television would not keep a signal and the power and WiFi kept going out. We couldn’t use our beach because the sand fleas were so bad and we even avoided sitting outside at the pool because of the “no-see-ums” ate us up. Given the chance, I would stay in West Bay at the more populated resorts. Most of the sights and restaurants are on that side of the island and we wouldn’t have to pay $50 in cab fare for the round trip from Barefoot to West Bay/West End. All in all, I thought the service was top notch but the accommodations came up short.

This is an ok 3 star resort if you are there to the onsite diving. It’s not a 4 star luxury resort as advertised though and the photos are very misleading. The place as a whole needs some TLC, the beach is non-existant (although the ocean view is good), it is secluded and the onsite restaurant is below average and overpriced by around 60% (eg a single burger on stale bun, no sides $18. Steak $40, etc). There are far better options around. Grand Caribbean Resort is one. I would also note as an observation that the reviews tend to be a 10 for on-island local reviews and a 5-6 for those guests who are not from the island. Something can’t be right there.

Well-maintained and comfortable rooms (we stayed in a villa on the cay) which can be used with no air-con during the day, due to the breeze. The on-site dive operation is excellent, offering three dives a day with single-dive options. The palapa, complete with hammocks, is brilliant. The food is generally good, although we had to order our dinners before 3 pm. There are several minuses: the kayaking equipment and wooden boardwalks around the island are badly maintained. The private island is sandwiched between two ugly and noisy ports; the resulting hubbub from the ports can be heard during the day and night. A lot of trash gets washed out, causing the beach (and coastline around the cay) to be regularly filled with floating rubbish. One day, we had a nasty oil slick polluting the beach.

My husband and I just returned from a week-long stay at Barefoot Cay to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I cannot speak highly enough about the resort and it's staff - everyone was friendly and helpful and made sure that we had a relaxed, fun stay. Our accommodations in one of the charming, beachfront bungalows was absolutely wonderful - I already miss the sound of the surf! We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Barefoot Divers staff for patiently teaching us how to scuba dive - it was an incredible experience. If you want to learn to dive, this is the place to do it! We will most definitely go back!

We found the Barefoot Cay staff to be very attentive, they accommodated no matter what we requested - they simply deliver! Josh and Vance are the best at what they do; they truly went above and beyond! The facility is great; the pool, restuarant, dive shop, and accomodations are all 1st rate. Although, the resort is near an active port (that can sometimes heard from back areas of the cay), it's isolated with restricted access - we definately appreciated that.
Diving is completely awsome, enough said.
Off the resort, the island is what it is ... rough roads busy with traffic and cruise ships and all that goes with that. Taxis can get you there when you wish to go for restuarants, shopping, activities, siteseeing, etc. It's generally a 2 to 4 hour adventure when you want to do that kind of stuff. Or rent a car and drive to the less populated east end of the island to find spectacular isolated beaches and a very cool bar/restuarant. Resort staff will definately point you in the best direction and make arrangements for whatever you want.
See you next year, guys - we're absolutely coming back and we're bringing friends!

We stayed in the 2 bedroom loft above the dive center. The room was very clean, although the floor tile was a bit dated. The staff the Barefoot was all amazing. Polite, professional and helpful. Its a small resort and all the staff knows all the guests. They took care of everything we needed including a stop at the local market when we arrived. The food at the restaurant was very good. We arrived on Sunday in time for the weekly "Sunday Funday" which featured live music, inexpensive snacks and drinks. Its was a nice way to open the week. And the singers creative rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama" was highly entertaining. The pool was beautiful and the palapa dock was great for snorkeling. It's only a short swim to the reef. All of the rooms have outstanding views of the channel, the reef or the bay and there are lots of places at the resort to sit, relax and just enjoy the peace, quiet and beautiful view. If you are at all interested in diving, this was a great place to get certified and take advantage of the several boats the hotel owns. There are several diving excursions each day. Overall, this was a lovely place to stay in Roatan and I highly recommend it!

A place that caters to divers of which we are not. We wanted rest, quiet and sun. The food was amazing. Service was impeccable. Not the huge white sand beaches of West Bay but an even trade for solitude and pampering. The private bungalows are awesome and set you at waters edge. Love this place!

Best scuba diving experience! Snorkeling was lots of fun as well! The rooms were excellent! Awesome breeze goes through the rooms when the windows are opened!

We enjoyed the resort. It's on the windy side of the island so we didn't get to snorkel much due to the winds. The resort is a bit remote, so not much to do at night. There are 4 dogs on residence, which woke us up from barking some in the mornings which was a bit bothersome. The facilities are beautiful and the island restaurant and pool are very nice! We enjoyed the hammocks on the palapa in the middle of the bay - beautiful!

As a smaller resort, this is the perfect place for those that really want to get away - it often felt like we had the resort to ourselves. Location is great, being well located to get wherever you want to go quickly, but far enough away from the more touristy part of the island. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and despite being a smaller resort, it did not feel like anything was compromised. Perfect location for Diving/Snorkeling.

Very nice facility, a little close to a working port , so there is quite a bit of shipping noise,
Food was good setting nice , staff nice.
Only complaint at all was the managers barking dogs. One of our group was placed next to managers apartment and was woken up on consecutive nights at 4:00 am by fighting dogs in the managers room. They asked to be moved and were told that unless they could get one of our group to move into a duplex unit that the move would cost they an additional 200.00 per night fee.
Word of advise to manager who was a nice guy, you need to either adopt out at least 3 of your 4 dogs or move to an apartment where they do not affect your paying guests.

Booked a trip on EXPEDIA.COM, It gives you 3 options one bedroom villa, two bedroom villa and Oceanfront Grand Villa. However, if your the lucky one that is put in the OVERFLOW room or as they tell you...THE GARDEN ROOM. Be prepared for a once in a lifetime adventure of crap. If you are offered this leave and get your money back. Ants, mosquitoes, toilet doesn't work, leaky ceiling and workers waking you up talking on the other side of the wall at 6 AM.

The resort is fantastic. Just like the photos. The only issues were that the manager had 4 yappy dogs in his unit that barked whenever they heard or saw something (we are dog owners/dog lovers, but this was way over the top!). It was extremely annoying, and when our friends who got stuck in the unit next door complained, the manager's solution was to charge them more for a different unit, or expect them to get one of us (2 other couples) to move out of our private villa into a shared villa, which we did because we didn't want them to have to pay more. I've since found out a lot of other visitors have complained about the dogs. You could hear them barking clear over on the island by the villas. Diving as great - the reef is beautiful. The roads on the island are horrible - I would NOT recommend renting a car and driving due to the thousands of HUGE potholes and all the locals swerving back and forth across the lanes to avoid them. With a group of 6 it cost about $70 per round trip to drive into town for dinner or to go to the nice beaches. The restaurant on the Key was pretty nice, but limited menu and the service was very slow and/or inconsistent/lukewarm at times. VERY nice staff, especially Josh and Alan. There were some ants in our unit after it rained a lot, but they sprayed when we told them about it.

Excellent place, specially for someone who want to relax.
