Super nice people working there! Everyone was very helpful and friendly.

Too expensive for what was offered. Two full sized beds placed right next to each other. Very noisy in the early morning hours when partiers got back from the bars. The tv didn’t work and we had to have someone come help us with it two nights in a row and the phone in the room didn’t work. Not really a hotel in my opinion

This is a cute hotel in a convenient location. From the street you ring the bell to get in.
The elevator has a loud long beep when closing, and there's a lot of street noise (but hey it is NYC)
Bed was very comfortable and there was lots of natural light.
The area is very walkable and fairly close to the subway station.

The rooms are incredibly small, even for NYC hotel rooms. These rooms are good for sleeping, not for hanging out.

There was a bit of a cockroach issue in the room. Otherwise, it was ok

Expensive for the what it is. WiFi slow and intermittent. Noisy in terms of the outside but it was also possible to hear the other doors opening and closing very loudly.
And for some reason they had me as a no show, so other passenger entered my room while I was there. Having stayed in other hotels in Manhattan, I wouldn’t return.

I didnt end up sleeping here. I was wigged out by the fact the bathroom light was broken and the ac wouldn't turn on. There were broken chips off of the furniture as well as fruit flies in room. The room is located in the basement and the air conditioning unit is located overhead which feels dangerous. I feel that The Gatsby should lower the price due to these conditions especially if they put guests in the basement with little natural lighting. The staff was wonderful in trying to help me, but I have higher standards for my partner who I got this hotel for as it was their first night back in the city. I hope The Gatsby can improve. The staff was very kind and accommodating.

AC didnt work very well and ran the entire night to barely cool the room. Trash caddy in the entryway at night stunk the downstairs up.

The property is located walking distance from a lot of stores, restaurants, and transportation. Staff was great, daily clean up were great. My only comment is that the cabinets(dresser?) in our room was broken, the curtains was just thrown in it(I’m guessing they fell off the window and left there), and there was no hot water(the one time I got it hot it took 15 minutes of running the water). So if you’re looking for an affordable simple clean stay this is it.

The location was great! Super close to everything. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. However, we got one tv channel in another language and that was it. Not bad, BUT the shower was the dealbreaker for me. The teensiest, weakest trickle of water came out. I meant to take a photo, it was so bad. I've heard old men pee with more vigor than that sad shower. We ended up letting the water run into the tub, squatting, and washing medieval-peasant-by-the-river style. If not for this, I would gladly give 5 stars as the price, great staff, and location can't be beat. If bathing isn't high on your priorities, give the Gatsby a try!

The hotel was overbooked and we waited 45 minutes to check in. The gentleman at the front desk did not have access to properly manage bookings.
He tried his best but management needs a better way of checking in guests. For 45 minutes we believed we would not have a room.

the room had a couple of bugs, the restroom light didnt work, tv didnt work. i reported it and some one came to fix the next day. it was so noisy at night time.

It was right nearby subway station, so it was easy to get around city.

I've never stayed in a worse hotel. 2 months ago the Gatsby was actually a homeless shelter. I feels like it never changed... The safe wasn't working, the TV wasn't working and the room was pretty bareboned. Then I complained and they "upgraded" me to a bigger room. The shades had holes in them, the lampshades didn't match and the lightbulb was blown out - they didn't have a new one for me. The towel rack was held up with large amounts of white plaster - looks like someone put a random glob of white crap on the wall. ALSO.. I tried to take a shower and the drain in the bathtub was stuffed up... so I had to walk back to the original room to take a shower. The staff was nice. Never stay here.

This place is terrible. It reminds me if a seedy notell motel. Front door is locked after hours and you have to be buzzed in. After check in- I was given my card and was told that my room is level c.
This was the cellar. And it was a dump. No remotes, bed looked dirty. Absolutely not.
I went back up and asked for another room. Nothing available. I told them to cancel the reservation.
The problem with most 3rd party vendors is that nothing is handled with any sense of urgency. I am waiting for a refund because I didn’t say.

Great location. There’s basically no lobby. Upon arrival the desk staff ignored us and we waited 30 minutes. The first key they gave us for the room didn’t work at all. The second key finally worked but looked like the lock on the door was running out of battery. I paid for the Queen bed room. The bed in the room was a full. There was no fridge, the tv didn’t work, no hand soap, no outlets by the bed. The wall-unit AC leaked, woke up and stepped in a puddle of water, shoes, socks, other belongings soaked. Had to use all of the towels in the bathroom to clean it up. And they charge us a facilities fee? For what? It seems like they just very poorly remodeled, at least we weren’t in the basement. The staff at check out was much nicer and accommodating than the staff who checked us in, and agreed to refund the facilities fee. His kindness did help so I’m thankful for that. I do take responsibility for not doing more research, if the ‘reviews’ are good. They are probably fake. Would recommend paying a little more for a chain hotel at least.

My overall stay was okay. Definitely not good enough to want to stay there again. The location was convenient to my plans so that was nice but that was the only real positive. My main problem is that the price did not match the quality of the room. I do not mind paying a decent amount of money for a good room but the pictures online did not really match what i experienced. The room was simple which is fine but everything was run down looking and dirty. The pillow had a stain, the tub had some sort of black goo and hair in it, the walls were poorly painted and scuffed everywhere, and the bed kept sliding off the frame/had a fitted sheet that did not fit. Even check in wasnt great. I stood there for a while with three employees and no one even acknowledged me. I think two of them were off the clock but if you are sitting there talking about work then at least stop so the person at the desk can greet me. If this was a cheap hotel i probably wouldn't care but over $300 should have gotten me a better experience.

Relatively inexpensive and true to advertising. Small but clean room, bathroom was not great, good location, and the "staff", by which I mean the sole employee at the front desk was friendly and efficient. The bathroom had no soap or other toiletries when I arrived but she provided them when asked. Similarly, there was just a single towel provided but I found the secret stash down the hallway near housekeeping. The bed and pillows are okay but there is no mattress cover underneath the very thin sheet so that was disconcerting. The doors to the rooms don't really fit so you have to pull them hard to get them to close. This, obviously, is not conducive to sound sleeping when your neighbors return late at night. I liked the big window overlooking the small park next door. Pleasant to hear birds and see trees on E. Houston and it's a fun area.

Most importantly, the bedroom was spotlessly clean. Less impressive was the missing bar of soap and when provided it was miniscule in size. Had to ask for second bath towel even though we registered with 2 guests. Convenient location.

I was on the C level and there was a horrible noise all night long that was coming from one of the utility closets down there. It was very difficult to sleep. There were also hairs on my sheets prior to when I got in bed.

It's a very convenient place for going out to restaurants and supermarkets. Easy to access metro and bus. Facilities and cleaness are average. Every staff are nice! Resulted, it is cost effective!
