Well presented and great location, food excellent

Being a listed building it was a cool inside at times given it was freezing outside

Everything was brand new, since the hotel had a recent refurb. The rooms were beyond our expectations, really gorgeous. It is a little noisy but to be expected above a pub in the centre of town, it didn’t cause us much bother. The room was spacious and very nicely decorated. It was well thought out and we were so comfortable.

The bar is rather cramped as the new furniture is a bit on the large side, and I’m afraid some of the staff not very ‘on it’ We have stayed at the Marine, also a Shepherd Neame, and the breakfast is the same menu, however, much more generous at the Marine. We were told we could only order one dish from the breakfast menu at the Duke, so no fruit, yogurt, cereal or porridge allowed if you order another breakfast dish as well. Such a shame as most hotels do offer this. The staircase is a little bit dicey for those with mobility issues, getting up with cases could be tricky.

The location, the staff, the rooms were exceptionally clean and bed very comfortable the decor is decorated to a very high standard and breakfast was delicious with locally sourced ingredients.

There is nothing really to dislike - in our room (3), maybe a door wedge to keep the door open at night to make it easier to get to bathroom?
