Location is convenient. Motel seemed safe, however the area seems a bit questionable.

I requested a handicapped room. They had booked a regular room with a tub and no safety handrails. After a conversation they finally gave me the handicapped room. I guess they only had 2 rooms. My room smelled of dog. After complaining they supposedly tried to get rid of the dog odor. It lasted 1 night. If I didn’t need the handicapped room I would have asked for another. I bought a can of Lysol spray and sprayed every time I was in the room. Should at least keep one room that is not pet friendly. Also, we were there for a week and they changed towels twice and made the bed only once. Very poor housekeeping service. The hotel is very old and the appearance shows it. It even smells old. I will not be staying here again and won’t recommend it to my friends.

The Best Western Plus Holiday Sands was amazing. We were extremely lucky in that we were given a 2 bedroom unit right on the ocean. I was traveling with my teenage grandson (who wanted to visit the Wisconsin); our 2 rescue dogs & my 75 yo husband (whose health isn’t great). The room we stayed in had 2 new queen beds plus a small kitchen ( appliances only -luckily we were traveling in our RV so I had the plates & silverware). The room had been totally renovated-beautifully done. They gave you body wash, shampoo & rinse in the shower-not just the little samples! There was even an enclosed dog walk on the ocean that had sprinklers -watering every morning the grass there!! I was unable to get to the free breakfast as I had my hands full taking care of my ‘clan’, but I am sure it was wonderful. They didn’t change the towels everyday- which didn’t need to be done as we stayed there only 2 days. The weather while we were there was extremely windy from the latest storm up from the Gulf, otherwise I would have walked more on the beach. There were recycled doggie bags and a place to put them in the dog walk-which was great. Unfortunately the pool was closed, but it looked great, plus there were plenty of lounge chairs available had the wind not been so intense. The TV had many channels available plus there was good internet. The check in was easy as was the ck out. There was a laundry room with 2 washers & 2 dryers- pay with cc. Plenty of stores & restaurants close by.

It was great, easy access to the beach’s and the breakfast is better than most hotels

I didn't like the time that the swimming pool was available

Although the property itself is somewhat pleasing to the eye, the rooms are all fairly older and need a thorough revamp. The room felt ‘wet’ for the first couple of days of our stay. It seemed to be more humid in our room than outside. Ants were seen in several occasions in the room. A guest above is played loud music until the wee hours of the morning and fireworks were set off about 1am in the parking lot. Not the fault of the hotel. Just the type of clientele perhaps.

If you are looking for an affordable hotel for your family while enjoying the beach & area attactions, this is a good pick. If you're a young adult looking for VA Beach nightlife or someone who expects a lot of amenities, this isn't your place. Hotel has good beach access, right on the water, and about a 20 to 25 minute drive to area attractions (Marine Science Museum, Nauticus, VA Beach Boardwalk, etc). Breakfast was reasonable hotel fare with several options: non-fat yogurt, toast, waffles, eggs, bacon, cereal, etc. At/after 9am, so you might have to take your food to go because there isn't a ton of seating, but that wasn't really an issue, just had kiddos eat in the room on the mornings we were late. The air condtioner for our room needed some work, but as we were really only it the room in the evenings before bed, it wasn't too much of an issue. We have young-elementary aged kids - a lot of folks there were also in that category- and the location and hotel itself felt safe enough, clean enough, and was right on the beach.

Near the beach, friendly staff. Problems were solved (sometimes after a reminder). Quality of the breakfast was good. Room was definitely dated. Although clean not in depth. Closer doors were very tired, safe was unresponsive (solved), roaches in the kitchenette (solved), bathroom door stuck and scraped. Staff at the front desk very friendly.

Loved then location. Would stay again.

We have been coming to the property for 25 years because is close to the bay and we get to go fishing at night since our boys were babies and our memories are there.

We enjoyed a couple of quiet days at the beach.

The hotel was very nice and had a great breakfast but the outdoor pool was closed, assuming it was from the storm but nothing was posted online, I would have moved venues since I have 2 kids. I have joint issues and need to exercise before the day gets started and the fitness center was closed 2 days of my 3 day stay, again, if it was on their website before my visit I would have booked another place.

We had a great time. The breakfast was delicious. The coffee machine in the lobby was wonderful. They have a citrus shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The towels had some stains, but nothing unsanitary. Honestly looked like someone tried to clean the sand off their shoes and it scuffed the towels. Overall a great time.

Check in was difficult, person was very nice, however accent made it very hard to understand and when i asked for them to repeat information they got mad and spoke even faster. Room still had last guests trash in it, hair in shower, flies in kitchen area. Only coffee available was decaf and when i asked for some regular at the desk i was told they didnt have any. But the guy was already mad from before so who knows. Kitchen area was extremely used looking.

But didn't get the call that our room was ready till 6 pm Got in room it wasnt very clean had what looked like blood stains on walls and shower curtain. Tv in front didn't work well kept loosing signal. No blanket on bed had to go to front desk for one. They said it summer time that why there wasnt one. Asked for clean towels never got any. There for 3 days room was never serviced. Phone in room didnt even work. The soap in the shower was empty told them never got tended to. Also all hours of the night you could hear doors slaming. Asked to upgrade rooms was told couldn't because we booked through 3rd party.
