The hotel has fabulous decor and is very clean. I also liked that the owners were sustainably minded and provided reusable bottles as a gift. It is also in a great relationship in relation to downtown Provincetown.
I am very disappointed in the level of customer service. The property sends several text messages with directions on how to check-in to your room, which is absolutely necessary because there is no one on site. This is more of an Airbnb than a hotel, which is not the experience I had expected. You have to download an app in order to get into your hotel room. They remind you to “charge your phone.” What if my phone was dead?? I wouldn’t be able to get in because there is no one around to help. I also had to wait to download the app once we arrived because there is no service driving into Provincetown since you are on an island. My boyfriend and I searched the property for our room toting our luggage around for 10 minutes before finally stumbling upon a staff member - had we not found him, I never would have found our room. It was put back, all the way at the end, around a corner and upstairs. Call me crazy, but if I’m paying $700 / night to stay somewhere, I’d like to see some star and expect excellent customer service. Very displeased with that experience.

Excellent location.
The room, meant for two people, was a micro room. You could not turn in place without stubbing your toes. Oh, and then there's your luggage...
It was challenging to take a shower given the small size there as well.
ZERO amenities!! No breakfast, no coffee, not even a can of water.
The keys didn't work, so you had to rely 100% on your phone.
Two "staff" members--seasonal workers--are on site, but that's it.
No ability to control the temp in the room, and it always remained uncomfortable.

Fantastic location and cute vibe. The digital check-in was super easy and convenient. The amenities were great and it was overall a really comfortable stay. I would stay here again!

Location!
We lucked out and got a parking spot. (But would have lost it had we driven anywhere.)
We had a Queen standard room but there was no in-room chair or seating area as advertised. (The queen sized bed and bedstands filled the room.) No coffee pot in the room (as advertised.) Had expected breakfast-- We each received a $5 voucher for a mexican-style restaurant which wouldn't have been my choice for the morning.
It looks like they just revamped the website. The information on the website was not available when we made our reservations in early June. We booked through Booking.com and the stellar reviews and description of breakfast related to hotel under prior management.
Staff not always on property.

Location was good. Water bottles a good idea.
There was no staff whatsoever. An app on the phone to enter the room, no staff around for the whole stay! Nobody to explain anything or check us in or out. Breakfast was promised at the hotel when booking, no breakfast was provided. The app said that there would be $6 vouchers for breakfast somewhere else at a nearby cafe. No vouchers were given to us and who can buy breakfast for $6 anyway. The room was very tired, the blinds were broken, the gas fire was constantly on with no way of turning it off (even though it’s warm outside), the front door also broken, paint needed touching up etc. Everything was just in need of a bit of TLC. The room wasn’t clean to my standard, toothpaste still in the sink. The hot tub outside was filthy dirty and again looked liked it needed replacing, the cover all torn etc.

Fantastic location - very close to shops and restaurants
Communication from the Manager/Owner was awful - brusque and abrasive. Toilet was dirty on arrival. Spa facilities are shoddy

Unfortunately I didn’t stay at the Ellery Hotel. They were still renovating the place so they moved me to their sister hotel, Waterford Inn. The room was very large with a rustic feel.
The building is old so it can be creaky going up and down the stairs. My pain issue, which really had nothing to do with the place were the people across the hall. They were loud and obnoxious. Coming in at 1:45 in the morning yelling and laughing is just inconsiderate.

The bathroom in the Robert Frost suite was nicely remodeled. The bedding was comfortable. I wish the spa had actual services and the whole property is in desperate need of full time maintenance person.
I have stayed at this property many times and I understand that it has new owners, but the current management was non-existent for the 3 days we were there. My room was never cleaned, we couldnt get towels for the room or for the spa. All that we had was a phone number of a kid who they left in charge to run the place. It was filthy in the spa area. None of the amenities were working properly. The hot tub was down, but in all reality, it just needed to be cleaned and then turned on, but no one wanted to bother with that. There are exposed electrical wires throughout the spa area in wet zones that could hurt someone. There was a wide varity of hoses, rakes, buckets, etc that were just laying around the facility that couldnt be put away. The inn staff made a huge mess of the kitchen, piling up garbage and dishes in the sink. You actually had a guest washing your dirty kitchen because it stunk so bad in the common area. Used towels were piling up in the spa area with no one caring to wash them. I also noticed that your security cameras had been inverted so that no one could watch the mayhem that was ensuing all around the property. This was my 6th time staying at this inn and it really upset me that the new people would treat it this poorly. When we booked the inn it included a breakfast, which was substituted for a $6 voucher at a nearby deli. They added the language of no -offseason breakfast well after we booked with no reimbursement to their changed policy. They couldnt even offer us tea and coffee in the main part of the inn. The sad part is this was a fully booked weekend for this inn and they couldnt be bothered to take care of their patrons even slightly. Every guest was screaming at the poor kid they left in charge. I felt bad for him because everyone felt robbed and were taking their frustrations out on him. The new owners faced alot of backlash for buying this property and I would have thought that they would have treated their patrons better.

The location. Also Kevin the manager was very customer focused, friendly, and professional. He was the saving grace of our experience.
Website said breakfast was available Friday to Sunday mornings. It was not. We were given vouchers. Website said wine and cheese. Check-in sheet said it will return in May. Website should be updated! Disappointing. Problem with heat. Thermostat in hallway; so temperature reflected temperature in hallway, not in room. Had to open the window at night because of excess heat (wasting energy). Sometimes too cool in the daytime. I had to constantly adjust thermostat. We heard complaints from other guests about the lack of breakfast and wine/cheese. There were repeat visitors who told us how nice it used to be. It was our first visit.

location, bed was comfy, nice breakfast, really nice people!
our room was a little cold. we couldn’t control the air conditioning, but even that wasn’t too bad.

The atmosphere was relaxing and tranquil. We loved the Asian influences. The staff were very warm and friendly. The location was perfect.
The bed was terrible. It either needs a new box spring or foundation. The place needed dusting. We had no one service our room during the 2 day stay. The price was too high given these issues.

Breakfast was wonderful. Staff were exceptionally friendly. Our room was a little small, but comfortable.
The outlets in our room were not all working appropriately. In today's age with various electronics that need to be plugged in, this could have been better.

Reviewing Carpe Diem is easy: it's 10 out of 10. Plain and simple.
It provided such a beautiful, sensuous and relaxing atmosphere for my wife and I. We went on our anniversary, and we couldn't have been happier. I had requested flowers and a message on a card. The flowers were beautiful, and they beautifully handwrote the message I sent!
The room (Robert Frost) was amazing. Great views, attached decks, and a worthy bed. The fireplace surreal, specially when it was snowing outside.
The staff are super friendly and helpful. The breakfasts and wine and cheese sessions were delightful.
But no review is complete without mentioning the Namaste Spa (which you get unlimited access to). I think we spent more time in the spa than in our rooms. The sauna is amazing. And relaxing in the outdoor hot tub when it's snowing is an experience we cherish. We went in with a ton of body aches, and 2 days at the spa made everything go away.
Finally, the property is at a great location. It was a pleasant 10 minute walk from the bus stop, and a few minutes walk to the seaside.
It's no surprise that we met so many long time Carpe Diem regulars.
Hey @CarpeDiem, you just earned two more regulars! :)
The washrooms are a bit small, which is probably expected given how old the property is.

Carpe Diem is exceptional in every way. On top of that guests have unlimited use of the spa area (hot tub, steam, sauna, showers) during their stay.

The place is right by Commercial St, where all the shops and restaurants are located. We went to Provincetown off-season, so we did not go to the beach, but the place has a lovely spa, hot tub, and sauna. The room (George Sand) was very pretty! Breakfast & wine hour were great. Kind, friendly staff. I would definitely recommend & revisit.
