Robert’s place is in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by tropical vegetation(Ofc everywhere in Hilo you can hear the frogs). We intentionally stayed away from busy urban area of Hilo so this is perfect for us. It is on the way to the volcanoes National park so if you are like us that visit the park quite a bit then it is a great location. The host is an artist who has a pottery workshop on site so we got to see some of his work. He and his wife are very friendly and accommodating. Would love to stay with them if we come back :-)
The house has a bit of dog smell

Everything was Exceptional and the best accommodations I've stayed at thus far during my travels for both business and personal. The hosts were kind and gracious and my ohana house was clean, safe, Quiet and peaceful. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Island of Hawaii. Couldn't have asked for more!!
Thank you very much Robert and Aya! I will definitely stay there during my travels in the future!
Nothing.

This is sooo much better than a hotel... one bedroom with all amenities, a garden and a great host!

This property is amazing and it is because it is in amazing hands. Robbrecht is an absolutely great host. We arrived after hours and he stayed late to meet us and he kept the lights on so that we could find the place easily. He showed us his pottery workshop in the morning. Our son got a boogie board, and beach towels were also provided: no need to bring yours. We picked up a coconut at the beach but could not open it without the tools. Rob opened it for us with a machete, and the coconut was delicious. He also gave several bananas from his garden to our kid when we were about to leave, and those were the best bananas the 11 year old tried in his life - at least this is what he told us :)
The pictures of the place are accurate, just the trees are somewhat bigger now. However, the pictures do not show the music of the place. We absolutely enjoyed the sounds of the rain forest and especially the coqui frogs singing through the night. There is actually a whole jar of ear plugs in the bedroom and also a white noise machine but the frog song is so cute and so perfect for the place where your dining room window faces the jungle. Cannot imagine someone would want the ear plugs in this setting.
There is a full kitchen with a set of dishes for four and some pots and pans and a coffee maker (Keurig capsules and ground coffee provided). The whole house is very clean and tastefully decorated. The surrounding garden is also beautiful and well taken care of. The Pahoa village is on the eastern side of the Big Island and it can get pretty wet, but even the rain is quite an experience there with its drumming sound and its fresh smell and its power.
We had great time snorkeling with the sea turtles in Onekahakaha Beach Park (30 min drive from the property, close to Hilo). We also spent a whole day in the Hawaii Volcanoes national park which is 45 min drive.
I am running out of space to say the good things and I did not mention yet that the wifi was fast and reliable, that there was a collection of CDs, that the golden retriever was exceptionally well behaved, that our kid made friends with the smiling green geckos... Thank you Robbrecht for our great time at your place!
Well, just one small suggestion for improvement: the towels stay wet in the bathroom when it's raining outside. Would be nice to add a foldable drying rack.
