We had a wonderful holiday: the large house with its spacious, lovely garden was ideal for us, a large family of three generations. Not only did it offer plenty of space overall, but there was also a large dining table where we all found generous space when we weren't eating at the large extending table in the garden, as well as a living room where we could all sit comfortably together. The kitchen is amply equipped with everything such as pots, bowls, crockery, cutlery etc. (except sufficient drinking glasses); the kitchen equipment itself with cooker etc. is modern. The rest of the house and its furnishings, however, are getting on in years, and some things may not meet EU standards. But we got along with it very well. As a large family, we also coped very well with the fact that three of the nine bedrooms are only accessible through another bedroom and that a shower room and a bathroom are en suite, i.e. within a single room. Everyone felt very comfortable, especially the small children, who found a large selection of toys. The ample parking space on the gravel parking lot in front of the house was very pleasant. We enjoyed being at the sea in no time every day. For further excursions, the surrounding area offers numerous worthwhile destinations for those interested in history or culture.

We came with seven children under seven and they all loved it - toys galore, many different rooms to play in, lovely garden, beautiful surroundings, historic places to visit. And the parents and grandparents enjoyed everything too. Perfect !

A group of 14 military and history enthusiasts from 2 countries gathered here for the 75th Remembrance of the D-Day landings. We were united by friendship and passions and sought a large home, centrally located, in a village that could be our home away from home.
Chateau Montessus exceeded our high expectations and met our major needs without exception. Prior to arriving--having rented this chateau almost two years early--all of my correspondence with M. et Mme. Montessus was met with warmth and cordiality, and both responded to every question quickly and clearly--at least, as far as my somewhat limited French could deduce...
When we arrived, both M. et Mme. Montessus were there to greet us and welcome us to their beautiful home. Everything was explained, all points, covered. And then they handed us the keys, wished us a lovely stay, and left us in charge.
In charge of eight bedrooms, an extra large dining room, a large kitchen, living room--salon--and two additional smaller salons. The home wore its centuries well, quietly elegant but not ostentatious, and modernized to provide all the comfort required, We had beds and baths sufficient, cooking facilities sufficient, privacy sufficient; we needed nothing more than they provided. And all of this in a stately manor surrounded by several acres of lawns and garden, a small running stream, tall trees and a stone wall to protect us from whatever monsters might lurk outside (my wonderful wide was delighted that none ever presented themselves.)
There are a few things that should be noted:
-There is one bedroom with en suite full bathroom and shower
-One bedroom has a sink and a bidet
-One has a sink and shower
-There are two additional showers, one with a bathtub, and one with WC
-There are three stand alone WCs
-On the top floor, there are two bedrooms at each end, and the second ones are entered through the first.
With 14 guests, and then 2 unexpected ones that arrived for our last two days, one appreciates both patience and thoughtfulness. Our group worked well with the arrangement, everyone slept, everyone bathed, and we consumed more baguettes and croissants from the village bakery than we ever could have imagined yet slightly less than we could have.
A bakery, butcher and small grocery were a lovely, close stroll away, and the Normandy beaches as well.
Generous hosts. Quiet. Comfortable. Convenient. Charming. Only staying longer could have made our stay better. Merci, cher Montessus.

Perfect location for our family of twelve. Dining room seated all of us comfortably. Young people enjoyed playing games in the casual living room. The whole group gathered each evening in the more formal salon. We found the location convenient for visiting the D-Day sites.

This house is spacious with a great yard and in a great location. It was perfect for our party of 16. The only downside was the week before our arrival we were informed by the owner that we were being charged a cleaning fee, damage deposit and extra fee per bed for sheets. These fees were more than double the original listed costs. We were in a bind with such a large party, so we had no choice but to pay the additional fees. Then upon arrival, we were told that we had to pay an additional five euros per bath towel when we noticed no towels in bathrooms. We were traveling from the United States, so it was not possible to bring our own linens, as the owner suggested. If you consider this place, I would ask about all fees up front to avoid these surprises right before your trip.

Am petrecut o saptamana de vis in aceasta minunata casa.

A wonderful large and comfortable 18th century home with many original features, wooden floors, fireplaces and charm, we were a family party of 14 (8 adults and 5 children) celebrating a 70th Birthday, on arrival we received a very warm welcome by the Owners Monsieur and Madame de Montessus who spoke very good English. The house is extremely well equipped and there were plenty of bedrooms to go round, 2 bedrooms had shower rooms, and there were 2 further bathrooms with bath and shower attachments, most of the bedrooms also had sinks in too. The kitchen was very well equipped and the huge dining room and table allowed us all to sit around together as a family. The large Salon lounge was cosy with plenty of chairs and we were allowed to light a fire each night in the fabulous fireplace. There is another separate reception room with TV and a study room with WiFi. The house has a wonderful large garden with a boules area and outside furniture to enjoy the sunshine. It is very well located in a quaint village near the sea and ideal for exploring the Normandy museums and beaches, we will definitely be returning to this wonderful home, we all enjoyed our stay very much, thank you.
