Could not have asked for a better experience…our host (Alvaro) was the best! He helped us with our bags and gave us great local advise on local sites and great restaurants! 5 stars across the board!

The location in this historic city is unbeatable. The walled area is charming and ancient but this apartment is modern and extremely comfortable.

This place is great. Hondarribia is terrific... so many fun things to do and eat! The location of this apartment, inside the walled city, is perfect. Alvaro was a terrific host and went out of his way to give us advice on things to do. The apartment was well equipped and very comfortable Great for a family.

We loved the location of this apartment. Within a few blocks there are many restaurants, little grocery stores, parks, and beautiful views of the river dividing Spain from France, and of course, the ocean. The apartment had many wonderful touches, a washing machine, a deck to hang them out to dry, and little convenience items in the kitchen. There were even great travel books available to read up on the area! The owner was most gracious and accommodating and quick to respond with any question we had! He was ready to explain how to get around the area, such as where the bus stop was and how to get over to San Sebastian. We originally wanted to stay in San Sebastian, but found this place simply charming! We would definitely like to stay here again if we come back to the area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alvaro’s rental. This lovely flat is located on a beautiful, quiet street. The place was well-appointed, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully stocked with basics (coffee, butter, jam, chocs) to tide us over until we could get to a market. Alvaro checked in regularly to see if we needed anything. He was a gracious, informative host. We couldn’t ask for any better. It made our stay in Hondarribia a total pleasure.

Alvaro was very responsive, welcoming and accommodating. He met us near the apartment and took us to the free parking area and brought us and our luggage to the apartment. We used the apartment as a base to explore the local area and San Sebastian. It worked out very well. Alvaro informed us that very few restaurants were open at night, so we planned accordingly and had no problems. The small town of Hondarribia is wonderful for walking and enjoying the distinctive architecture. We really enjoyed the apartment and appreciated the bottle of local cider and chocolates that awaited us. I would definitely stay here again. The only small negative is that in the evenings and in the morning, the noise from the neighboring apartments was fairly significant, but it didn't extend late into the night and we were out the door fairly early in the morning, so it did not disrupt our sleep.

Estuvimos en el apartamento de Alvaro para la carrera Behovia San Sebastián. En todo momento muy atentos y serviciales. El apartamento es muy bonito y acogedor. Dispone de todo lo necesario para unos días por el norte. Muy agradable. Recomendable.

Alvaro was an excellent host and helped us on our arrival. Lovely scenic town on the sea.

Clean and very convenient (look out for the lift to/from the old town). Lots of character in the neighbourhood, but easy to reach the San Pedro restaurants, public transport (including the ferry to France).

Nous cherchions un endroit pour visiter le pays basque sans être pris dans le tourbillon d'une grande ville car nous étions en voiture. Hondarrabie et l'appartement d'Alvaro sont parfaits. Il est localisé dans une rue très calme et très typique. A pied, on peut aller se promener ou à la plage et le soir goûter à la vie espagnole, avec les apéros et les tapas ou pintchos. A 5mn de l'appartement, nous avons pris le bus (E21, toutes les heures) pour 2,55€ en direction de Donastia (Saint Sébastien). Nous y avons passé le journée sans le soucis de se garer. Si vous arrivez en voiture, il est possible de se garer gratuitement à 200m de l'appartement d'Alvaro. L'appartement est parfait mais je ne dis rien car tout est dans les photos. Du goût, de l'attention et un cadre superbe ! Je n'en dis pas plus pour vous laisser découvrir... Et je ne parle pas d'Alvaro, un hôte parfait et galant. Je recommande et reviendrais volontiers !

We came across an article in ‘Traveller’ which led us to choose Hondarribia as our base instead of San Sebastián. We were glad we made this choice for a number of reasons, and one of them was Alvaro’s apartment. In short, there was not one thing that we did not like about the apartment. It was clean, comfortable and attractively decorated. We have also come to know that your apartment choice is a good one when it is stocked with everything you need to make your stay comfortable and then there are a few thoughtful things added. In this case a bowl of chocolates, a bottle of cider and a Nespresso machine with a generous supply of pods - this is not a limited list and it is the kind of thing that goes beyond what you might hope or expect of your host. The apartment is located in the most attractive street in the Old Town and is in easy walking distance of the area that has most of the pintxos bars and restaurants - although make sure you visit Gastroteka Donantzat which is just around the corner. Parking is free and just outside the gate that leads into the street where the apartment is located. We left our car there for the whole time we were in Hondarribia as we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in the town and it was much easier to catch the bus to San Sebastián. The final word of this review must go to Alvaro who was an exceptional host. He met us at the arranged place promptly, guided us to the carpark, transferred our luggage to his car and gave us an orientation tour of the town. He was always easy to contact and was just so charming and friendly. So stay in Hondarribia and stay in Alvaro’s apartment for a truly wonderful stay.

Our stay in Hondarribia was beautiful. The apartment location is a couple of blocks inside the walled city. Beautifily updated apartment on narrow, quiet street. Short walks to plazas in the old city with plenty of places to eat and see. Apartment was immaculate with all that you need. Two story walk up narrow stairways but Alvaro helped us with our luggage. Brief walk to entrance to walled city and nearby commercial area for market and more restaurants. And close to waterfront area and small quaint downtown area for sightseeing, shopping, and eating. Helped us with directions and finding convenient parking when we first arrived. Happened to hit perfect weather in mid-October, and not too many tourists. Should not miss visiting this beautiful area.

Could not be happier with our apartment. Alvaro and his wife met us and gave us a tour of the apt which was meticulously clean and had everything we needed for 3 days in the beautiful old city of Hondarribia. Although we did have a car, we left it in a convenient car park and walked to everything - great restaurants, cafes and bars - including a Michelin starred restaurant that was outstanding. I can't say enough good things about both the town and the apartment. Would go back tomorrow. Oh, and, yes, you can walk to the airport. While I was initially worried that this might mean noise, it is a small airport with not that many flights which take off over the water and do not disturb the town at all. I highly recommend the place.

Easy access to Basque country, with loads of great bars and restaurants within walking distance. The apartment is characterful and well equipped. Recommended!
