We were able to both "get away from it all" at this cottage lost in time and also quickly join the line at the addictive PG Boulangerie or popular Bagel Hound nearby. The Cape light, the marsh right by the house plus the sunsets over it, the bike trail and the evocative White Cedar Swamp - both right across Rt. 6, the 15 bike ride to beautiful White Crest beach and 10 mins. more to Beachcomber, host Scott's quick responses - all contributed to a WONDERFUL week at the Cape.

The cottage is charming and cozy. It was the best of all worlds - we had the quiet seclusion of being surrounded by nature and being in walking distance of the CCRT. Scott was a wonderful host immediately responsive to any of our questions. While the house is right off of Rt 6 giving us easy access to go all over the Cape, it had unexpected privacy tucked back and away. Our 23 yr old was fascinated by the architecture & all 4 us are eager to come back again. The fans were were perfect even with the heat - plenty of ventilation.

We loved this little rustic cottage in Wellfleet, and were lucky to find a place so close to everything. Even during the worst traffic, you're about 30 minutes from just about everything, including the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Provincetown. There's an abundance of beaches, restaurants and stores within ten minutes of the place.
Our weather was perfect, but note that if it was hot, you would be dealing with extremely hot temperatures in the cottage, as there's no AC. In fact, it would get hot during the day, so in the morning we had fans going in every room so that it was cool and aired out when we would return in the evening.
ONE NOTE FOR OUT-OF-STATERS: I'm sure folks from Massachusetts know that to rent on CC means to bring your own bedsheets and towels. The owner does list this in the instructions, but there's a lot of info there that I decided to look at two days before travel, which is on me. For a bit over $100, you can rent sheets and two towels from a local dry cleaner, or pack your own (I had to pack my own since I was too late to rent). I've never heard of this, but the fact that a local business offers such a service shows that it's likely a well known practice in Massachusetts.
The home is quite rustic, in the sense that it has a wonderfully weathered look. I saw from the one bad review that this freaked people out--you can keep your pristine hotels and cottages that are basically half million dollar homes, my wife and I loved this place completely.

This was my third stay at the cottage on Blackfish Creek. We enjoyed every minute - it is such a relaxing atmosphere. The cottage is rustic and very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed with counter space for prep work. We ate all of our meals on the screened in porch. The outdoor shower is amazing! Enjoyed grilling seafood on the outdoor grill. Scott was very responsive and helpful. Very quiet despite being close to the highway. It is an easy car ride to the beaches in Wellfleet Center. I hope to return next year.

A quaint, rustic cottage in a beautiful location which is perfect for rest and relaxation. It's ideally situated for biking on the Rail Trail so you can leave your car behind and cycle to many beaches and swimming ponds.

We could not have asked for more. The cottage itself is an old fashioned Cape Cod cottage with a nicely updated kitchen and bath. The location was quiet and secluded but close to beaches and restaurants. Scott was great with any questions. Really a perfect place if you are looking for relaxation, peace and quiet.

What a beautiful spot, nestled in the trees, overlooking Black Fish Creek. Comfortable cottage, well appointed
kitchen. We really enjoyed sitting out back and watching the sunset while the birds put on a show. Loved the outdoor shower!

This was my second time renting this property. I wasn’t disappointed. I love the rustic feel of the house. It is so comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed and had any utensil I was looking for. We used the outside gas grill a lot for several kinds of fish as well as steak. I love the backyard and marsh. Scott was so responsive and helpful. The week went by very quickly. I’d love to return.

The cottage is just across Blackfish Creek from the home where my family summered for thirty years. I wanted a Wellfleet immersion experience., so the cottage was perfect.
It is modern in important ways, rustic in others..
Be prepared to enjoy beautiful dark nights, gorgeous sunsets,

It is a joy to stay at Scott's place. The cottage has an understated, timeless quality that is rare to find. I love everything about it, from the older spring mattresses, to the defunct call bell in the main bedroom, the dowels that prop the original windows, the spare Duravit fixtures in the kitchen and bath, and a fairly well-stocked kitchen. The outdoor shower and the marsh view are also highlights.

This was our second stay at Captain’s Cottage. We love so much about it…The view across the marsh, spectacular sunsets, the outdoor shower, the privacy, and having almost everything we need in their well stocked kitchen. The owner lives adjacent to the cottage and is very responsive to any needs we had, both prior and during our stay. The cottage offers simplicity, aesthetics and an incredible sense of peace. Highly recommend!

This was our first VRBO rental experience and it was great! Scott - our contact , was attentive, organized and positive. The cottage had such artistic flair and the energy all around it was wonderful! It felt like rediscovering our beloved Wellfleet of 24 Summers all anew!

It was wonderful, the cottage was adorable and surrounding land gorgeous. Loved the privacy of the property. The sunsets were stunning overlooking the marsh.
The landlords were very responsive. Only issue (which we knew in advance) was no air conditioning. The weather was great most of week, but the heatwave the last two days was intense and challenging for sleep. We asked for an extra fan which they brought immediately and helped. Ceiling fans would make a huge difference if possible. However, most nights were very comfortable. The screened in porch was wonderful! Look forward to staying there again.
Thanks

A Wonderful Week
Had a fabulous week at the Captain's Cottage. The cottage is charming and comfortable. Loved dining in the screened porch. The living room is a nice space. The views from the master bedroom are amazing. I loved waking up to all the different birdsongs. The backyard and marsh offer great views of the sunset. I am already missing the outdoor shower! The kitchen is well equipped. The house is fairly close to Route 6 but street noise was not a problem. I loved the privacy and seclusion. This is a slice of heaven! Oh and last but not least, Scott was a fabulous host! I was sad to leave and plan to return next year.

We were overwhelmed bu the beauty of this house and its surroundings. Birds and rabbits and sunsets and breathtaking mornings. Incredibly beautiful and peaceful, and amaizing how it is close to route 6 yet feels totally remote and enchanting. Scott was a great host, responding promptly to our needs. We will return. Thank you!

Sublime
Every morning, first thing, my wife and I went to the chairs and bench overlooking the the marsh. What a way to start the day! We had a bunch of crisises in our life and this was a perfect place to recuperate. The house was comfortable, somewhat rustic and also beautiful. A great stay!

Favorite property in Wellfleet.
This was our second time at this summer cottage and it is truly magical.
The cottage is rustic (love it) but maintained with a lot of taste and it feels like jumping back in time, but with all the modern commodities. It's just perfect.
The location is gorgeous, as the cottage is looking at the marsh and it's sided by trees and bushes. A gorgeous view from the master bedroom reminds me of England, especially in the morning light.
When I am here I feel I can really relax and disconnect from the hectic pace of home.
Magical.

Beautiful antique cottage with a lovely view
Wonderful small artist's cottage with a lovely window filled bedroom with a queen bed, a loft with two twin beds, an updated kitchen and bath, two smaller fridges each with a little freezer, a screen porch with dining table for 4, and a yard with beach plums, wild black cherries (just don't eat the pits which are poisonous), and a beautiful view of Blackfish creek and the surrounding marsh, including a resident osprey. The proximity to rt 6 was not an issue. The cottage feels tucked away and very peaceful. There is easy access to the nearby rail trail for bicycling or getting to the area beaches and trails on foot. There is a wonderful network of trails nearby in the wooded area between Maguire Landing and Nauset Lighthouse. Scott was a gracious and helpful host. We didn't read carefully enough to notice the rule against children under 15, and unfortunately a friend and her 4 year old couldn't come for a planned visit, but this was our mistake. We also didn't realize the need to bring our own linens, but thankfully Scott had an extra set of sheets. The mattresses are an older spring type, but just fine and everyone slept well. There was an issue with low flow rate from the kitchen faucet which they should be able to fix soon. The outdoor shower was very nice, as were the sunsets over the marsh. Thanks so much, we hope to be back.

Perfect in every way!
Our time at the Captain's Cottage couldn't have been better. The setting by the marsh was magical, and we were treated to glorious sunsets and soaring birds almost every day. The cottage is adorable, better than the photos, with a well-stocked kitchen which was important for us because we cooked each evening, comfortable beds and a wonderful screened porch. The outdoor shower was fabulous with great water pressure and a view to die for. Most of all, we found our host, Scott, to be incredibly kind and responsive to every question we had. We would absolutely recommend, even with the occasional noise from nearby Rte 6, this cottage felt a world away. Hope to return next summer!

Beautiful retreat on the marsh
We had a great week and wanted to stay longer! Scott’s house was clean, well-furnished, and he was a friendly and welcoming host. Sunsets on the marsh were spectacular!

Quintessential Cape Stay
Incredibly charming cottage with everything we needed—well fitted kitchen, modern bath, heavenly outdoor shower, sweet screened-in porch and comfortable beds for us in the main bedroom and upstairs in the loft for our college age daughter. The house came with two fans. We brought an extra that we put to good use during the hot spell when we visited. The hosts were very responsive and friendly. Great location. And beautiful landscape—the smell of honeysuckle out the back door was heavenly. The cottage was recommended by friends and it did not disappoint. We would certainly return and recommend to others.

Nice Private Cottage
The Cottage was clean & well kept. The owner was very accommodating. It was perfect, except for the noise from rt6 was incessant. It's nobody's fault and cannot be fixed. I would say it was the only black mark on an otherwise very nice vacation.

A hidden gem of a place
Guests can spend hours enjoying the many faces of the marsh from chairs thoughtfully provided. The Cape Cod Rail Trail is a short drive with Wellfleet and an Audubon Wildlife Refuge a bit farther down the road. Armed with Cape Cod area kayaking and hiking books and our bikes, our week flew by. There is so much to do and see before returning to the hidden treasure of Scott's place. The other option is to stay put and enjoy the natural world out the back door. Without question, we would return.

Storybook cottage in phenomenal location
The Captain's cottage was even better than I expected from looking at it and all the wonderful reviews on line. The owners furnish the house so it is charming and beautiful but comfortable and not at all fussy. I am a big cook and the kitchen was very well appointed. I loved the outdoor shower so much it was all I used. The spot feels otherworldly and is graced with the most beautiful light yet it is super close to amenities; the bike path is right across the road and one can walk or cycle to a wonderful bakery. The owner was quick to respond if I had any questions and couldn't have been any more hospitable. I have been going to Wellfleet for many years and my time here will make it hard to stay anywhere else when I return.

Wellfleet unique rustic
It was a magical place in itself, set aside from the owner's house just in front a beautiful marsh. The cabin was restored just enough to keep it's lovely rustic character, and was super clean with great antique furniture. Bathroom and kitchen are new. My favorite things were the screened in porch and outdoor shower. Great for a couple or family with two kids, who can sleep in a fun loft. Owners very available and helpful but the space was definitely private. Good spot from which to explore Outer Cape.

A delightful place!
This is a unique, adorable, very private-feeling fairy-tale cottage set on a grassy lawn on the banks of a salt marsh, facing the sunset. (Mosquitos were NOT a problem.) Lots of birds and bunnies. Our family of two parents and two adult children spent two weeks here in August and had a great time. The owner, Scott, was cheerful, helpful, and a pleasure to interact with.
The cottage itself is very sweet, with a charming rustic feel but a modern, renovated kitchen and bath. The photos are accurate. We ate all our meals either on the screen porch (hard to find) or at the picnic table located on the expansive lawn.
The location in Wellfleet is great. It is located within a fairly short bike ride to the ocean and bay beaches and freshwater ponds, and we did a lot of kayaking within a short drive and on site in the salt marsh. The town of Wellfleet is about a 10 minute drive. Having a French bakery (PB Boulangerie Bistro) nearby was a plus, with short lines in the afternoon and evening.
We were initially worried the cottage would be too close to Rt 6, but we quickly adapted to the faint background noise. Though we are VERY sound-sensitive people, it DID NOT BOTHER US ONE BIT or diminish our sense of peace and quiet in this lovely setting. We would definitely come here again.

The cottage is charming. A mix of old and new Cape Cod. The grounds are amazing.
My husband and I had a wonderful visit to Scott’s cottage. It is a perfect mix of old and new Cape Cod. While there is no ac the breezes move well through the cottage and fans were provided. The WiFi was great and having a smart tv meant we could keep up our binging with a glass of wine once the sun set. Scott was an excellent communicator. When we arrived everything was spotless. We hope to return as my artist husband found the spot so inspiring and because of good WiFi I could still connect with the office.

Hidden Gem
The Captain's Cottage is charming and in a beautiful setting that is also convenient to restaurants, bike trail, ponds and ocean. Scott was very communicative during the whole process, and the cottage was extremely clean upon arrival. Special attention was paid to all COVID guidelines which we appreciated ... a great week! Thanks!

Beautiful Rustic Cottage on the Marsh
This cottage is completely charming and well equipped and the owners were nothing but gracious and attentive to our needs. While it was unusually hot for Cape Cod, we were supplied with fans in every room which managed to cool the house enough for sleeping. The sunsets over the marsh were beautiful and the location right off Route 6 was very convenient and surprisingly secluded and quiet. I definitely recommend this place for a family of up to 4 or a couple. Thank you to S & C for your hospitality.

A terrific stay!
Our week-long stay was an absolute dream. The cottage itself was quintessential Cape Cod - old-school, charmingly rustic place with nicely updated bathroom and kitchen (which was well stocked and equipped for the many meals we prepared and ate in the screened porch dining area.)
The property itself was beautifully landscaped, and features a wonderful marsh-side sitting area for viewing sunsets and a great outdoor shower to rinse off from the beach.
The hosts were very responsive, quick to help with a few of the requests we had, and were extremely respectful of our privacy and of social distancing.

Lovely spacious house with privacy and a charming screened porch for meals
This is a place you can truly relax. Open grounds around the house for relaxing in shade or sun, with shrubs all round for privacy. Plenty of room inside for reading, writing, watching TV, or just hanging out. The large downstairs bedroom gets lovely light and has a view over the marsh. (We only wished a few of the larger shrubs along the marsh were trimmed back so we could appreciate it more). The house is very clean and orderly , with lovely upgraded kitchen and bath (white marble kitchen counters, new white cabinets, spacious white tiled shower, all pristine). Yet the vibe is mellow and easygoing rather than overly precious in this classic Cape cedar-shingled cottage. (Shingles gradually being replaced as the owners continue to upgrade. ) The easy beauty of this house and privacy of the property are hard to beat, and Scott responds to any questions or requests immediately.

Rustic cottage, beautiful setting
Best parts: Beautiful views of the marsh - great for bird watching, new well equipped kitchen and new bathroom.
Upper bedroom gets quite hot

Horrible
Owner misrepresented condition of this property. His use of the term "rustic" is a euphemism for disgusting. The property abuts a salt marsh but has inadequate screens, subjecting the property to exposure to mosquitos. We walked in, saw the condition and walked out and the owner refused to refund our fully paid rental fee. Stay away from this place. .

A precious cottage in Wellfleet.
We spent two weeks at this cottage and loved every minute we were there.
The setting is beautiful, surrounded by nature, with bunnies and chipmunks strolling around the property in the mornings and in the evenings.
The location is great, pretty close to Macguire Landing Beach , Beachcomber and White Crest beaches.
We will definitely consider going back. We love Cape Cod and this property made us love it even more.
The hosts were welcoming and helpful.

South Wellfleet on the Marsh
We loved our stay at this charming , well-equipped cottage. The location is extremely private but also close to everything. The bike path is just across Rte. 6. There is an extended bunny family that pops out now and again to share the sunset. Locust trees frame the marsh and the breeze cools things off nicely. We will try to stay again next year.
