This is a perfect base for exploring the area and wonderful to come back to after a day out as the grounds are large with lovely views all round. It is extremely peaceful but close enough to Le Bugue if you want a coffee or meal out. We were very comfortable in the property as it had everything you could need and the hosts Jackje and David were excellent. Never intrusive but kept in touch and would pass on useful information. We watched some fireworks on the riverbank at Le Bugue which was magical and would have missed if Jackie hadn't sent us a message. Its a stunning area with plenty to do. We took a canoe down the Dordogne, had a day in Sarlat, a boat trip from Roque Gageac, visited Limeul and the beautiful gardens there, the Sunday market at Saint Cyprien js a must, we had sliced ham and potatoes from there and they were delicious for Sunday dinner. The walk along the river to Le Bugue is perfect and everyone is friendly and happy to help if your French isn't great! I would go back happily.

A perfect location to explore the region.
The hosts are very welcoming and give great advice about things to see and do.
This was our second stay and we will be back next year!
The garden is also great for dog owners as it is large and secure.
The house has all amenities and after sightseeing in the mornings it is difficult to leave it in the afternoon as it is so easy to relax there.

We enjoyed our vacation at the property of David and Jacky.
The house was very clean and everything you need was there. The owners are very friendly and also 'dog minded'.
The beds were very comfortable and the garden had a complete fence.
There was very much to do in the region.
We will absolutely go back in the future and recommand the house to others.

This property is centrally located as a home base for exploring the entire Dordogne Valley. The house is located on an acre of land in a very peaceful and private residential neighbourhood, 3 kms from all necessary amenities in Le Bugue. The house is spacious with a well appointed and functional kitchen, two decent size bedrooms and a separate living room and dining room area. The main bathroom would benefit from a remodeling to add a larger and more modern shower stall. The owners live nearby and are available to assist with any questions or concerns you might have. Overall, our experience was positive and we take home many fond memories of our time in this beautiful region of France.

Clean and tidy house, with all you need. Close to a little town and yet a quiet location. Two bedrooms and seperat bathrooms. Good kitchen and cosy livingroom. Good wifi througout the whole premises. Jackie and David are the perfect hosts. Definitly can recommend their house!

Toller Urlaub!
Dienstags toller Markt in Le Bugue!
Gerne wieder!

we have had a thoroughly enjoyable week at la gardelle. Our little dog, dexter absolutely loved the huge garden.
The property is very well equipped, resulting in us having relaxing evenings at home most evenings....although the short trip into Le Bugue is straightforward and most definitely worth a visit on market day. Jackie & David were both very helpful when we met them upon our arrival at Le Bugue. My only regret for our holiday was that a week wasn’t long enough!

We had a great week at Jackie & David's property. It was exactly as advertised and all of the previous reviews gave an accurate reflection. It is very private and peaceful, and our dog loved having the freedom to roam the huge amount of land (the word 'garden' doesn't accurately reflect it). On the point about dogs, the local vets is only 2 mins away, and when we visited for Duffy's return worming treatment & check, the vet was great & spoke great English.
All of the furnishings were of good quality, and it was spotlessly clean. It is a 5 min drive into Le Bugue (I don't think it would be easy to walk, but never tried it) where there are some great shops/restaurants etc. We didn't spend that much time in the town, as out every day exploring the region, and usually too tired to head back out at night, so the barbecue came in very handy.
It is a good location for getting to a lot of the main sights & attractions, and Jackie & David provide some good recommendations. The canoeing was great, and I'd recommend a visit to see the Police Horses of Brantome to anybody, and only an hour's drive away. The weather was absolutely scorching when we were there, so I suppose a pool would have been nice, but really didn't take anything away from the holiday.
Would have no hesitation in returning to this property, or recommending it to friends & family, which always speaks for itself.

We had a fantastic holiday at La Gardelle as it is so well equipped and comfortable that you feel so relaxed.
We took our dog who loved the large garden which is totally secure and because France is so dog friendly it made our holiday so much easier.
Jackie and David were very welcoming and ensured we enjoyed our stay with tips of where to visit and where to eat, all of which were very useful.
The surrounding area is very pretty with lots of medieval interesting villages to visit and of course the River Dordogne runs through most of them so a boat trip was a must.
The weather was very hot but the house does stay cool which is excellent so if you need to chill this is the place to do it.
All in all a wonderful place to stay and we had our best holiday in France.

Dordogne Out Of Season
My wife and I travelled with our two dogs and had a great time. This property is an excellent base for exploring what the Dordogne has to offer.
The owners David and Jackie met us in town and escorted us to the property. They keep it spotlessly clean and it has everything you need to make your holiday go smoothly. They showed us how to work the central heating (needed in Feb/Mar) SKY and WIFI etc. Note, the wifi is fast and I had no problem watching movies & sport (Netflix) on my laptop through HDMI into tv!
La Bugue is a few minutes away in the car and has everything you would expect from a mid sized town, 3 supermarkets to choose from along with other smaller shops and restaurants. You can walk into town but the scenic route along the river is around 4kn and the direct route is under 3km but no pavements and partly main roads.
The owners live around 10 minutes away and they insisted if we ever needed anything or were unsure we should phone anytime.
Lastly, our dogs really enjoyed the secure garden and the Dordogne. Most places accept well behaved dogs and if you need a vet? It is around 300m away and both reception and the vet speak excellent English. Consultation and tapeworm treatments for both dogs cost us 60 Euros.

We have just returned from an enjoyable six week stay at La Gardelle whilst we were house hunting in the area. The property is situated in a lovely quiet country lane but is only 2 miles from the bustling town of Le Bugue with its many shops and supermarkets and is within easy access of all the main attractions in the area. The house was very clean and comfortable with an extremely well equipped kitchen. Our dog loved the large, fully fenced garden and we particularly enjoyed sitting out on the sunny front terrace looking out over the valley. The owners were very helpful and made sure that we had everything we needed during our stay. Thank you Jackie and Dave for all your help and advice.

It was our first visit to the Dordogne. We had a good holiday due to the tranquilty of La Gardelle. Le Bugue has a great weekly market (lovely fresh eggs and mushrooms) and is well located and easy driving distances to surrounding villages/sites, shops and restaurants. Jackie and David were very helpful in settling us into La Gardelle. The house was spotlessly clean and for a self catering holiday had sufficient utensils, gadgets etc a a bit like home away from home athough weather and food is unlike ole Blighty! Thank you Jackie and David for the use of your home which gave us a wonderful start to our holiday.

La meilleure maison
I've seen reviews of this property referring to it as a Gite. This is misleading as it is a single storey house in a quiet residential area. It sits in approx an acre of grounds which are private and secure. It is very comfortable with well equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms, ensuite shower and separate bathroom. There is also a large living/dining area plus a choice of 2 terraces, the front one having lovely views over the valley. We stayed with our 2 dogs who loved the garden especially the shaded areas under the trees which was welcome in the 30 degree plus temperatures whilst we were there.. The house is only about 3 km from Le Bugue, a small market town with good supermarkets and an ample choice of bars and restaurants. It is situated well for exploring the Dordogne and Vezere areas. Our favourite place was Perigueux with good shopping, restaurants and a bit of history. Our dogs particularly loved Limeuil where there is a confluence of the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, great for cooling off. Both of these places were recommended by our hosts Jackie and David who provide excellent customer service. Overall I would recommend this property to anyone with the description perhaps underselling it. We have visited France on many occasions and can quite honestly say this is the best property we've ever stayed in. The only problem with writing this review is that it may make it more difficult to book a return next year.

A Gem
Set in a tranquil neighbourhood, offering peace and comfort. We loved the terraces and the spacious garden. We were a couple and it suited our needs perfectly, but I think the garden would have proved a hit with children of whatever age. Plenty of space to get lost in but entirely secure and private. Lovely, large, well equipped kitchen. Plenty of hot water always available for the showers. Comfortable sofas in the lounge and large comfortable double bed or two singles to choose from. Lovely welcome from Jackie and David, who went the extra mile offering help and support when we had a few problems with the car. Highly recommended!

Ideal accommodation in the Dordogne
Our recent stay was the fourth in this property which we have occupied for over three months in total. This fact alone will tell the reader that we are very keen on the facilities on offer and will use it again when visiting the Dordogne. We have looked at other properties in this and neighbouring regions and none compare with La Gardella.
The key features which keep taking us back are as follows:
A. The kind, generous, and helpful way in which we have been supported by our hosts, David and Jackie and their family;
B. The dog friendly aspect of the property;
C. The spacious back garden, patio and BBQ;
D. The delightful front garden and raised patio;
E. The red squirrels and range of bird life in the garden;
F. Very good wifi connection and speed;
G. The relatively rural nature of the property together with the many excellent walks, and
H. General interest of places to visit in the area.

Excellent Holiday Home
The owners David and Jackie could not be more friendly and welcoming. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and clean with two lovely outside eating areas. The area where it is located is quite and peaceful and it is only 5 minutes drive to Le Buge, where you will find lots of facilities and restaurant's.
We would recommend Sunday lunch at the local Chateau and a visit to Cabanoix et Chataignes in Domme. We would not recommend Restaurant Julien, prices are high which is not reflected in the quality of the food.
All major sites are within easy driving distance from the cottage and we will certainly return.
Thank you Jackie and David for an excellent holiday.

Excellent holiday base
A fine holiday base exactly as described, including a fully enclosed large garden for our dog to roam in at will. Very friendly and attentive owners. The property is in a quiet location, but close enough to the town for all its amenities. Will return to this delightful property.

Lovely and relaxing
A lovely location, quiet, private, walking distance to town, lovely walks for the dogs along the river.
House full of all the essentials, coffee maker and BBQ especially appreciated.
Clean, nicely laid out internally with plenty of space.
Garden area fabulous if your taking your children or your dogs, our dogs lost weight from playing in the large garden, we all returned home much fitter.
Sunshine present and correct.... With both a sunny and a shady patio to suit all tastes.
We didn't want to come home... You can't get a higher recommendation than this.
Suitable for families with disabilities, a couple of steps front and back so not suitable for chair users
Thanks Jackie and Dave, what a lovely family, pleasure meeting you both.
