This is a spacious and well equiped/furnished apartment in a very genuine, central Palermo neighbourhood.
We enjoyed being somewhere where we felt we could experience local life, rather than simply being in a tourist area. It's not been "gentrified" and is a largely residential district. Only 50 yards away is the buzzing, messy Ballaro market - one of the sights of Palermo - but the apartment itself is very peaceful and the terrace a welcome retreat from Palermo's streets.
We found the apartment very well located for seeing all the main sights in Palermo: a short walk from the Palazzo dei Normanni and Cathedral, the Quattro Canti at the heart of the city, and the sights of the Kalsa, Capo and Vucciria districts. The proximity to the central station (which we used for the airport and Cefalu) and Piazza Indipendenza (for the bus to Monreale - highly recommended) is also very convenient.
Internally the apartment is very generous, with a downstairs living room and an upstairs kitchen/diner opening onto the terrace. Even in an unseasonably hot period for late September it stayed cool in the living areas and the airconditioning effectively kept the bedrooms at a good temperature.
Our Host, Yvonne was very welcoming - we enjoyed meeting her on arrival and she was very accommodatng with our check-in arrangements, helpful in correspondence and provided useful information/recommendations (for eating we enjoyed Bisso Bistro and the basic/genuine local Tratorria il Bersagliere)

A spacious apartment in a lively neighbourhood. It can be a bit noisy at times due to the proximity to the Ballaro market but it is convenient to all the sites in the historic centre. Yvonne was a wonderful host. She had multiple suggestions of things to see and do including a fantastic restaurant recommendation that turned out to be one of the best meals we have every had. Highly Recommend.

This apartment was delightful. Its layout is such that four people could easily stay there and not get in each others way. It is located pretty much in the middle of the Ballarò market. The market shuts down in the early evening so street noise is not a problem. Yvonne was waiting for us upon our arrival, and was most informative and gracious during our stay. This was our fourth trip to Palermo and we really felt that we were staying in the authentic Palermo. Our concerns about safety in the neighborhood proved to be totally unfounded as we felt very safe the whole time.

Yvonne was an amazing host. The neighbourhood is a little edgy, but very authentic. We loved going to the market which was just steps away and buying fresh fruit, veggies and bread for breakfast and lunch. We had our bread guy and cheese guy. It made our trip to Palermo.

I highly recommend this apartment/flat. Yvonne is a wonderful host. She is very thoughtful and was a huge help during our stay. We ended up arriving 12 hours late; shortly after midnight; and Yvonne was kind enough to arrange transportation and meet us for check-in.
The accommodations exceeded our expectations and the location was perfect for reaching most everything by foot. The flat was very clean and well kept. The patio/deck was awesome! Yvonne also gave excellent suggestions for places to eat and see. We would visit again without hesitation.
Thanks Yvonne,
~ Randy

Perfect Palermo home
We can’t thank Yvonne enough for our 18-day stay at her wonderful Palermo apartment. This is a lovely spacious apartment, comfortable, extremely well appointed and located on a marvelous lively street that empties out on to the authentic Ballaro Market. We will never forget sitting on her jewel of a terrace, sipping
Sicilian wine and gazing at the beautiful dome of Chiesa del Carmine Maggiore. Yvonne is wonderful. We followed so many of her recommendations for everything from local sights to restaurants and shopping (her suggestions include options for all budgets) to visiting the nice lady at the corner who squeezed fresh pomegranate juice for us each morning. When we needed her advice about where to park a rental car or best transportation to the airport, she got back to us at lightening speed and was so kind and helpful. We hope that when we return to Palermo we will be able to stay at her lovely home again. It was such a big part of a perfect trip. Thanks Yvonne!

Feel the pulse of bustling Palermo up close!
The apartment is right behind the Ballaro’ market, yet very quite and extremely comfortable with all you need for a wonderful stay. Yvonne, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable of the neighborhood and Palermo in general and will dispense to you any information you’ll need. The other historical sites of the city are an easy reach by foot, we never had to use either a taxicab or any public transportation. We highly recommend it. Thank you for your hospitality!

Palermo's Secret
If your staying in Palermo, you must stay at this flat. It is perfect. Yvonne greeted us with so much information. The place was clean and up the street from the World's famous Ballaro Market. I recommend staying here. It is walking distance to the train. There is no need to rent a car. My company and I literally walked all over Palermo. This apartment is one of the best kept secrets! Thank you Yvonne for being such a great hostess!!! A+A+A+

Busy Ballarò basecamp in Palermo
This is a lovely renovated apartment in the heart of old Palermo. Less than 50 meters from the historic and lively Ballarò market. Comfortable living area, 2 spacious bedrooms with good beds, two modern and functional bathrooms. The view from the living room balcony out over Via Albergerini is priceless - very active family neighborhood, lots of yelling, kids, crazy vaporettos, laundry handing out, and frequent parades with bands and images of saints. The upper floor back terrace is quiet and has a great view of the dome of the neighborhood church. The kitchen is a dream, fully equipped and functional, and with the market right next door, you can cook up a storm. Excellent communication and help from the owner. We loved it.

We were very happy in this beautifully appointed, immaculately kept apartment, whose spaciousness will be particularly welcome to the long-term visitor. Its thoughtfully (and fully) equipped kitchen, with a roof terrace on which you can dine in full view of the tiled dome of the Carmine, will permit you to make full use of the bustling market outside your front door. Palermo is a city of intensely felt contrasts, the apartment will be a place of rest and calm in it. And the hostess will always be available for advice and help with a perfect combination of promptness, efficiency and warmth.

Beautiful apartment, very helpful and friendly owner
The apartment is ideally located for Palermo old town and is in a residential area, so you can experience real Sicilian life, not just the tourist version.
We were met at the apartment by Yvonne, who explained everything and sent us recommendations of how to best experience Palermo.
The market in the Ballaro is amazing and the locals are like a force of nature. We always felt safe and welcome.
The apartment offers flexible and comfortable accommodation and from there you can walk to anywhere in the old town.

Great week in Palermo
We stayed in Yvonne's flat for a week the end of May and thoroughly enjoyed it. The flat is exactly as advertised and has everything you need for an enjoyable experience. The neighborhood in which the flat is located seems a bit rough at first but once you get your bearings it is an ideal base to tour all of Palermo. Most attractions are in easy walking distance. The Ballerò Market is 5 minutes away and is wonderful. Yvonne was very responsive, answered all of our questions, and made some great suggestions on restaurants & attractions. All in all a wonderful stay.

A gracious and welcoming host. Thia lovely and roomy apartment is located in the heart of the old city. An area that is gritty and not so well cared for but has charm in abundance. Within walking distance of all sight seeing places.Great. We want to go back as there are so many alleys and lanes we just must explore.

Wonderful flat is perfect position
We have just returned from a four week stay in Yvonne’s spacious flat where we were so comfortable and wonderfully looked after by Yvonne who couldn’t have been more helpful. The beds are cosy, the bathrooms work and the kitchen is equipped with everything one needs. The sitting room is large and light with comfy sofas. Upstairs, there is a sunny balcony with views over the roof-tops to Santa Carmine church. The flat is very central and once you get the feel of all the little roads and alleys, an easy walk to all the monuments. However, the real joy, and why we chose Yvonne’a flat, is that from the moment you step out of the door, you are right in the middle of the true and authentic Palermitan life.
Ballarò market just throbs with energy and is pure theatre. It is far from a clean, polite stroll down a supermarket aisle, it is a heaving mass of people jostling to buy the freshest produce - and to get there first. Every morning, seven days a week, all the World and his many wives turn up to pick the choicest ingredients for their parmigiana or their pasta all Norma. If you go often enough, the stall holders, a friendly bunch, greet you and pop a ittle something extra in your basket.
When you tire of the market, you can watch the action from the little balcony in the sitting room. Below, in via Algheria, lives a Signora who likes to tell the neighbors all about her life. She has a big voice and obviously a very interesting life as everyone comes onto their doorstep to listen and join in.
Nobody spends a month’s holiday in Palermo if they are seeking peace and solitude, but Yvonne’s flat was to us a overly oasis of calm when we wanted to escape from the bustle. There is also a nice clean little cafe in via Ballarò which gets the morning sun; there you can sit in (relative) peace, enjoy a cappuccino and have fun as real Sicily parades before you.

Perfect Location
Yvonne is a wonderful host and her apartment was the perfect base for three women. She set the upstairs room with two twin beds, per our request. When we arrived, she found us several blocks away, where the taxi had dropped us, and helped to get us to her apartment. The apartment is beautiful; clean, comfortable and well stocked. She introduced us to how to make coffee in the moka coffee pot, which is wonderful. The welcome goodies and supplies she left for us were much appreciated as well! The two bedrooms were very comfortable as was the spacious living area, but the outdoor space, overlooking the beautiful dome of the Chiesa next door, was where we spent most of our time. Yvonne provided lots of suggestions, tour information and reference guides, which helped us to plan our days.
The apartment is steps away from the bustling Ballaro market with a myriad of food and goods for sale. It’s also walking distance to the Quattro Canti with the beautiful Fontana Pretoria, the churches of San Cataldo and La Mortorana, Piazza Bellini and the hop-on-hop-off tour buses, allowing easy access to all the top attractions Palermo has to offer. The apartment allowed us to enjoy being part of the local community, getting used to the daily routines, exploring the market, shops and eateries in the area. We highly recommend this as your base while exploring Palermo if you want to immerse yourself in the local culture. Yvonne is a perfect host, just a text or call away, should you have any questions or need anything. Thank you for sharing your apartment Yvonne!

Nice Apartment near Market and Old Town
The apartment was very nice and served two couples well. The owner was helpful and gave us lots of good suggestions as to where to eat and what to visit. The neighborhood is in a part of town that has been partially renovated but still needs some improvement. The neighborhood was loud at night.

A little oasis in the Ballaro.
We had a lovely few days here. The apartment is very clean, comfortable, well appointed and Yvonne the owner is very quick to respond to emails, texts etc.
Palermo is quite a small city so many of the sights are within walking distance. The neighbourhood is not wealthy but the locals are very friendly and helpful. You certainly see real life at first hand. Shopping is great fun, lots of stalls in the Ballaro market to chose from and Lidl is a five minute walk away. The red tourist bus is worth doing and going up to Monreale and its amazing cathedral is a must. A train trip for a day to Cefalu is straightforward and inexpensive.

Convenient and homey
The property feels like a home, not a rental. It's steps from the Ballaro market which makes it convenient for shopping.
The taxi from Palermo got us as close as to the property as he could, which was right behind the Chiesa del Carmine Maggiore -- a good place to meet Yvonne. We called her and she met us right away. Yvonne's response time was excellent, from inquiry before renting to the day we left. She also has a wealth of info on the area, and seems to enjoy sharing her knowledge.
The property has a great kitchen, balcony, and effective air conditioning in both the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms (the downstairs bedroom's a/c is effective enough to cool the the entire lower floor). There are also ceiling fans. An added plus: there is a separate freezer unit with ice cube trays, which people who are used to having ice will appreciate. The washing machine is in the kitchen; it is a washer only, not dryer. Laundry can be hung outside on a rack the property has.
Highly recommended.

Look out for the unexpected -
We are two married couples in their 60s with the opportunity to travel to fairly exotic places. To date, this has included the expected places like Turkey, Argentina, and rural Scotland, but Palermo proved to be something different - perhaps more risky. We arrived at the apartment in the middle of the old historical district to be greeted by throaty Vespas, yelling children, booming fire crackers, and a feeling of apprehension.
With the help of Yvonne, we found our way around the area with it's incredible food market and human hubbub and embraced the differences from home. It was so much more than we expected and was a truly memorable three days.
The apartment was very comfortable with two bedrooms and two baths place a pleasant kitchen. It was modern and things worked. A great place and a great location after the initial trepidation.

Great experience
Great location if you want to be in the center of the action within walking distance to major sights. The apartment is spacious, very well appointed with everything you need and more. Yvonne was lovely, knowledgeable about the area and super friendly. Can’t think of anything more she could have done to make our visit more enjoyable. I’d stay there again while visiting Palermo.

Great 3 night stay
Yvonne's place was clean, spacious and in a great location in the midst of the centre of Palermo, with quick walking access to markets, historical landmarks and every type of necessity. Yvonne greeted us with instructions and tips, not to mention a bottle of wine and other foodstuffs and articles. She also stayed in contact with us to answer our inquiries and arranged for a very good taxi service back to Palermo airport when we left. The second level patio was especially nice in he evenings. I definitely recommend staying there for the convenience of being in a very nice place in the centre of Palermo. If you do not like the noise of staying in the city centre then it may be a concern to consider. We stayed over the weekend and because of the location and night life, expected it to be active into the late night, but that was compensated for by the multitude of positives we experienced. Thanks again Yvonne.

Wow!
This apartment was perfect for two couples on Easter weekend in Palermo. The apartment was very classy and a great location for the Ballerò Market and many other venues. The landlord was exceptional. She met us upon arrival and helped us park, unload our bags, and get settled. Her recommendations for dinners were right on point and she was focused on making our visit perfect. We just couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

Fantastic apartment and thoughtful hostess!
It was a pleasure to stay at Ivonne's place. It's a great, spotless, two-level apartment close to most of the major attractions of Palermo.
We found everything we needed, from comfortable beds to the washing machine.
The area around is the market place so be aware that the streets might not be super clean. Overall, we highly recommend the place as it is comfortable and well located.

All mod cons in a central location
Yvonne, the owner, was so helpful and kind. She met us at the station and returned us there at the end of our stay. Apartment had everything we needed and was comfortable and clean. Good location close to Balaro market, so, easy to walk to most of Palermo’s attractions. Won’t suit everyone as the area is quite dirty with piles of rubbish everywhere. We would definitely stay there again if visiting the city. Yvonne’s food recommendations were excellent as well, particularly if you want to experience authentic palermo food.

Wonderful, fantastic location, comfortable, GREAT
We were two couples who stayed at this great apartment for a week and the accommodations were just perfect for us. The bedrooms, being on separate levels, each with its own bathroom, worked out great. Each level had a table for eating, working, or planning the day's activities. It had a well stocked kitchen and a large living area with two comfortable couches. We particularly liked the large balcony terrace with the view of the adjacent piazza and church. So enjoyable to sit out in the evening enjoying our local wine.
Of course one of the best things about this property is the location. It is an easy walk to all the interesting and important parts of Palermo; the Normal Castle, Cathedral, Four Corners, major shopping streets, and the train station (from where we look a wonderful day trip to Cefalu). And of course the fantastic Ballaro market is only a block away. A previous reviewer had indicated the apartment was a bit noisy, but we did not find it so. It is located in a very interesting and lively area of the city, but it is not noisy and is quiet at night.
And the property owner, Yvonne, is just terrific. She met us there with house plants, milk, some local food and great suggestions for restaurants and activities. She could not have been more helpful or pleasant.
In summary, this was a terrific place for our Sicilian home base. Just perfect. Five star plus!
