This has got to be the best place to stay. Watching the deer, horses and various birds while sitting in the pool or hot tub. The house has everything you need and has the feeling of home. Trent is the best to work with and is always there to help if anything is needed. I highly recommend staying here.

The house was amazing. Our family loved everything about it. We seen different varieties of wildlife each day. Trent is an awesome guy to rent from and goes above and beyond to make sure your trip feels like you are at your home away from home. With all the vacations we've been on in the past, Trent was definitely the best person I've ever dealt with. He cares more about you and your family having a great stay than any other landowner we've stayed at. I will definitely recommend any place he has to everyone. If you haven't had the pleasure of staying at his rental then you are truely missing out!! Do yourself a favor and book it because you won't regret it!!! The pool and hot tub are great for all ages!! Again, I can't speak highly enough on the how great this house and everything it offers was!!! Lastly, I completely recommend this place and any others that Trent has available. He truely cares about your stay and it shows!!!

We had an amazing week at Mermaid Hideaway! The house was comfortable with everything we needed, even toilet paper and paper towels. We watched horses from the front yard daily. Water next to the house was clean for fishing, kayaking, and even a little swimming. The owner was easy to contact, answered all questions, and even picked us up some fishing bait. We have been to many vacation homes and this was the best!

This was definitely an experience with having time restrictions when you can leave and have to be back due to high tide, when we figured out our way around it was great. All the puddles we had to go through was a little nerve racking but with the truck we made it. Had a little trouble finding the house with being our first time but I contacted Trent and he came to rescue us, once we got there we did nothing but relax and anything we needed Trent was on top of it and constantly checked in on us! Couldn’t of asked for a better host!

Thanks for giving us a private/peaceful week. It was a perfect getaway. The pool is awesome. Loved relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings. Great communication with Trent. Listen to his advice on tire pressure and you will have an easy time getting to house. Wildlife and nature was amazing. Saw our first otter that was not in a zoo! Highly recommend!

Being on the canal was great with seeing the deer and cranes. My nephew caught his first fish! We loved seeing the horses everyday. We had access to the sound to ride our jet ski. The pool was great! The house could use a power washing and a little better lighting at night.

Trent was a great host. He was always checking in to be sure everything was okay. Location is very calm and relaxing with wildlife around each day. We had a great time at this house.

This place is amazing .... between the horses and turtles and other nature around you cannot go wrong and there is plenty to do .... fishing, kayaking, walking , swimming in the pool hot tub , corn hole and anything you can think of . Perfect for families with little kids and big kids. If you don't mind driving on the beach and have a vehicle that can make it , I highly recommend renting this house 👌 👍 😀

Vacation of a lifetime while staying at Mermaid Hideaway!! Trent and Steph were very welcoming and went way beyond what a host would need to do! Their beautiful home is located on a canal with a lot of wildlife and the horses swimming across it!! When we realized our SUV was only a 2 wheel instead of a 4x4 they dropped everything without hesitation and drove us to Corolla in their own SUV to get groceries!!! The home had everything we could ever want and more and beds very comfortable!! The new pool was situated so you could look at the canal and great location to the beach!! Making plans to go back in the fall because it was so peaceful and relaxing while enjoying the wild horses daily!!!

My wife and I stayed here for the first part of our honeymoon. Trent is a great communicator and an excellent host. The horses were amazing. The first morning we watched them play in the canal right outside. The day we left a group of three horses came into the driveway as if to wish us a safe journey. The experience was very touching. The views from the deck were awesome and the beach was gorgeous. The pool is definitely private and wonderful on a hot day. If you are looking for a place to stay for the wildlife and the views with the benefit of swimming space, this place is amazing!

Had a great time - Place was clean - and taken care of. Had horses in the yard every day and even at night while we were trying to fish.

Trenton the property owner was outstanding to work with. Any time we had a question, he was quick to respond. The location was beautiful, right next to the canal and only a few blocks away from the beach. The swimming pool and hot tub were an added bonus, very clean, the pool is salt water which was a nice surprise. We saw the wild horses almost every day, right in the backyard. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Great location. Saw so many horses and other wildlife! Was disappointed that the running water was basically salt water - they need a new filter. Make sure to bring plenty of bottled water! Also, the grill is charcoal so make sure to buy charcoal before hand... we do a lot of grilling so had to go back into town to buy a bag of that. Had a great stay overall.

Our family had a great time at Carova beach. I was a little concerned at first taking the 4x4 Ford Explorer but it ran like a champ with no issues! The beaches were clean and the house was awesome and had everything needed for a relaxing week. The hot tub, in ground pool , kayaks and dock were on point. The sunrises and sun sets were amazing! We caught lots of different fish in mid July right from the back of the house. The horses paid us visits every day & the wild life was abundant! Trenton was very responsive and great to chat with. Cellular service is excellent with the tower right in the community. Get off the pavement, air down the tires and head to this house. You won’t regret it. It’s the vacation your family needs to reconnect and get away from the everyday hustle and bustle. Mom & Dad, Grandparents, & Kids all feel rejuvenated and connected. We will be talking about this experience for a lifetime!

The usage of the Kayaks and the ability to fish off the pier were great features. Very clean and beds were comfortable. No complaints.

We enjoyed our time at the Mermaid Hideaway. Our boys loved the hot tub and kayaking in the canal. The weather was a little cold for the pool while we were there, but it was clean and private. We saw horses every day near the property and enjoyed grilling on the patio. Some components could use some updating or replacing (e.g., bathroom faucets/handles, kitchen cabinets, some furniture), but nothing major. While we enjoyed driving on the sand, there were times when we wished we were a little closer to town. Wifi and cell signal were surprisingly good! All in all a very cool way to experience the Outer Banks!

Carova Beach is a magical place. The home was situated on the canal and when we were not taking long walks on the beach we would sit on the deck and watch the world float or wild horses swim in the canal. Trenton was super responsive and helpful and lives nearby. He provided us extra kayaks so that we could all explore the backwaters and then warm up in the hot tub afterwards. Great stay

We enjoyed our stay a lot. Long walks at The beach, the kitchen had everything we needed. Internet was super fast and reliable, great if you need to stay connected. Trevor was great and made sure we had all we needed. Thank you!

We love the 4x4 area. The wildlife, the disconnect, the privacy are important to us as a family. The house was very clean and well appointed. The family enjoyed the daily horse appearances, kayaking the canals to the sound and daily trips to the beach. The fact that 2 kayaks were provided saved us the hassle of worrying about logistics. The owner could not have been more welcoming or flexible. The internet was fast enough to watch movies, work remotely on zoom and have the two kids attend virtual learning. We'll be back, that's for sure!

This property is perfect for family, lots of room to spread out, pool, hot tub to chill in. Canal to fish, crab, and kayak in, easy drive to the beach, really private getaway. Back to nature with plenty of wildlife, horses that walk around, so much better than a crowded condo or hotel, this is our 3 year and we will be coming back for many more.

House was more than we expected! Pictures just can not do it justice. Wild horses every morning and unbelievable views of the sunrise and sunset! Not one moment of our trip was wasted as there is so much to do at the house when we finished at the beach each day. We plan to return for sure!! We absolutely loved everything about our stay. This house was perfect for our family. The kids could fish and kayak right off the canal and the beach was a 2 minute drive from the house. We really enjoyed seeing the wild horses and all the different types of animals that visit the canal. An added bonus was that we were able to take our dog with us and we found that it’s hard to find a property that has a pool/hot tub and you can bring pets. The owner was in contact with us the entire time to make sure our stay was going smoothly and answering any questions we had. We will definitely be back next year. Hopefully sooner.

Vacation during the COVID pandemic couldn’t have been easier! Secluded in a home on the canal was perfect for my family! Boys loved fishing, crabbing and kayaking in the canal! Wild horses visited us and even swam across the canal. Easy walk to beach! All the necessary kitchen supplies were available! Trent was extremely responsive with a leaking roof during torrential rain, and hot tub motor that froze up...he had workers out to fix the very next AM. And the highlight of our trip was Trents recommendation for inland fishing charter! Picked our family up right off our dock! My boys have begged to make this our new annual beach vacation!

For context, we've been vacationing in the 4 x 4 section for approximately 20 years and enjoyed staying in this house for about 5 years when it was listed as a rental by one of the big OBX rental agencies. Approximately 7-9 years ago, the property was listed for sale and pulled from the rental market, so we started staying elsewhere. We came upon it as a rental again on VRBO by pure coincidence and were very excited at the prospect of returning to one of our favorite vacation homes. Almost nothing but the flooring had changed, and I mean that in a bad way. Same furniture - now stained and battered. Same kitchen, but now grungy with run down/broken appliances. Something "died" in the freezer and the odor hit you in the face every time the door was opened and it seeped into any ice we made. No idea what the cleaning fee is used for, but the house was not clean when we arrived. When we took the bedspread off the queen bed to put our sheets on it, the mattress cover was covered in hair and other unidentifiable accumulations. We washed the bedspread and put it back on the bed and then put our sheets on OVER the bedspread to keep a barrier between us and the mattress. I spent half the day cleaning, which was not in my vacation plans. Contractors popped in indiscriminately on 3 occasions - one to measure a ripped screen, one to remove a screen door (no replacement arrived while we were there - so the screened porch was unusable), and another at the tail end of the week to deliver a new washing machine that we would have welcomed when we first arrived and did all that cleaning - all without so much as a text message from the property manager before, during, or after our stay. There were no vacationers scheduled the following week, so it was very annoying that the "work" couldn't wait until our vacation was over, especially since none of it was prompted by us. As much as we love the location and used to enjoy vacationing in this house immensely, we will not stay there again.
