The location, looking out over the lagoon was perfect. Lovely large room and bathroom. Breezy deck to enjoy the stars from. Aircon was a godsend.
Suitable accommodation for the 20-40 age group
Shower fluctuated between boiling hot and cold. Shower walls, corners and slides needed a good clean with bleach. Washing machine was half full of water with a mat/towel in it when we arrived so unusable. No instructions or welcoming info for arrivals so couldn’t get tv to work, phone was dead and internet hotspot only usable at the burger bar (not a restaurant!) music too loud and too modern for 60+ age group (unlike other eateries that had soft polynesian background music)

Tavake is great. Hosts are young, energetic, and wonderfully helpful. They found us what we needed through local connections when we had no idea and forgot to book transport. Pawpaw growing at the door, beautiful sunset from the back porch, great spot close to all the facilities you need, and not far from the flash beach up the road. Their cafe next door was open 7am - 9pm and the food and drinks were great and economical, and there were always locals and visitors to meet there for a coffee and a story.
We liked everything.

Tavake villa offered a more budget friendly approach then the resorts on the island. However, with this came issues as stated below.
We also enjoyed having access to a car to explore the island (for an additional cost)
Whilst we had an amazing time in Aitutaki, unfortunately the one disappointment was this accommodation. We had cold showers throughout our stay (4 nights), with no apology. Hosts did not respond to any messages via booking, phone calls or texts. In person, the two girls working there told us to talk to "the boss", who in turn told us to deal with the girls.
In addition the house/villa desperately needs a deep clean. Dirty surfaces and shower. Bed linen felt like sandpaper.
It's clear the staff need proper training, and the owner/manager needs to improve communication and management of the team.
The villa has huge potential, the outlook across the water is pleasant and the accommodation would present good value if the issues above are addressed.

Close to town and other shops. The property owner also has a food store at the front which is great.
Maybe a to do activities book in the villa. Just to give people some recommendations on what to do around. Especially for new to the island visitors.

Perfect location, the staff were absolutely amazing and so friendly and helpful. They treated my girl like whānau and she made this place her home. The umu cultural night was awesome the food was so yummy (best food on the island) and the dancing was beautiful. Thank you for an amazing holiday.

Loved the traditional family values . We wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island from now on . Beautiful people, Beautiful place , their umu cultural night is a must... see you next time ..

The view of the water from the back of the property.
Lack of safety. I checked out after one night due to security issues.
Owner was not responsive to booking.com messages, but answered phone calls.
Hot water was not working, so I had cold showers.

Loved the location, the hospitality and the cafe. Tavake Villa and our hosts absolutely exceeded all expectations. We can't wait to return!

nice accommodations with plenty of space
not well maintained, few amenities (eg one tea spoon, two knifes, one glass for water, no hangers)

BESTTTT HOST EVER! ALSO BEST BURGERS & ICED CHOCOLATE Everything was amazing, communicating with the host was so easy! Its such a beautiful spot close to town.
The host were so helpful and they have a restaurant in front of the villa. Everytime we would walk over to eat (Maata- Host) would happily take our 8month old off us and walk her around their store while we ate!
SO GRATEFUL FOR THAT FELT LIKE A LITTLE BREAK FOR US!
I DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND HERE IF YOU HAVE KIDS THEY ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND CAN PROVIDE VEHICLE FOR EXTRA COST IF REQUIRED

Great spot! Away from the main tourist resorts, super clean and a cafe 10 metres away, ran by our lovely host! We had such a good stay, waking up to the beach every morning was amazing. The villa was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Would absolutely recommend!

Hosts were very friendly & helpful, great advice on where to eat etc. Accommodation was large & comfortable with a great view and located pretty much in the middle of "town" but still felt private enough.
Needed a bit more stuff in the room...cutlery/crockery was a bit random, no coffee & only a small amount of toilet paper provided.
4.5
it had a very good location & the hosts were very friendly & helpful. it is right on the lagoon & close to small cafes & grocery store. you can hire a car from the hosts to use during your stay. I found it very essential to have a car to go to different locations during our stay.
I liked it all

our hosts were delightful and helpful. the location is good. all the basic requirements were there. when we used the aircon unit it was quiet and efficient.
The facilities need to be improved, basic kitchen equipment like a chopping board etc. the outdoor area would be great with a bit of work and a couple of sun loungers. this could be a really good accomodation option.
4.5
Fabulous welcoming owners, quiet spacious and relaxing accommodation. Great deck to chill out on.

Tearaia is amazing. He picked us up from the airport and gave us a quick tour of the area. He kindly drove us to a couple of grocery stores for supplies. He has great energy and is quick to respond when you have queries. We had booked a scooter, but unfortunately nothing available, so he kindly lent us his car for four days.
The accommodation is located close to town, however you do need transport to get further afield, especially to Ootu Beach. Unfortunately you can't snorkle at the beach near the accommodation as it is quite shallow but that's not a problem as you can snorkle further down the beach towards Tamanu Beach Resort.
The bed is super comfy, and in my eyes a selling point. If you are into sunsets, you are definitely located in the right spot. If you stay during the week, Tearaia and his partner's cafe serves great coffees and other yummy food - right next door. Perfect.
If you can, book the Vaka Cruise. You won't regret it.
Not a deal breaker - beach towels would be great. Mainly for those coming over on a seat only deal 😀.

Lovely helpful people and a great view. I would definitely recommend it. They have started a cafe next to the villa and if we had breakfast there it was on the house which was really nice.
it was not quite finished in set up but I’m sure they’ll get there, we had to ask for beach towels coat hangers and got our own sugar and coffee. Because of the wind the pilot light for gas heating the shower regularly turned off.

Beautiful location beside the Ocean with a wonderful view. The hosts are super responsive and helpful!

Being met at the airport & given fresh flower leis; being driven to the local shop to get supplies before checking in; the host was friendly.
The pull out sofa bed was hard & uncomfortable. A soft foam mattress over it should overcome this, or a better sofa bed.
4.5
This lovely little villa was super private with a beautiful outlook. It was handy to the main town area and shops. The villa had everything u need including a kitchen, washing machine and a line with pegs. The bed was large and super comfy, a previous review mentioned the bed being hard but this has obviously been replaced.
We loved sitting on the back deck watching the sun go down.
Tearaia and his partner were wonderful hosts, taking us to and from the airport, giving us recommendations and organising us a scooter. The Tavake Cafe in front of the villa that is also run by Tearaia has great food and is super handy for coffees. We loved our stay!

Superb location overlooking the lagoon and within walking distance to shop and cafe but away from all the resorts. Wonderful hosts, came to collect us from the airport and took us back at the end of our stay. Very accommodating, made a rental car available for our use during our stay. Complementary towels, tea, sugar and milk and flowers on arrival were lovely. Having a Wifi hotspot at the property was a real bonus and Wifi vouchers can be purchased at the local shop. Villa is spacious and clean and has the most amazing sunsets every night from the deck. Perfect to sit and enjoy with a G&T.
It was advertised as a 1-bedroom unit and I was expecting a separate bedroom with a sofabed in the lounge for my daugther. Turns out everything is in 1 room, so we were all sleeping together. Not really an issue but this should be clarified in the ad . The villa is really set up for a couple and gets a bit cramped with the sofa extended into a bed for an extra person. A few things were missing - no scrubbing brush or tea towels to wash or dry dishes, no door mats to wipe sandy feet so the floor gets very dirty. Just little things to fix and make it even better :-)
2.5
The bungalow is big, has air conditioning. The deck is nice and big. Located close to town. We end up staying only 1 night and we book a different place.
The bungalow is not located on a swimming area, although has a lagoon view, it's not a proper beach. No sand area, no swimming.
The cleaning wasn't very good, and the pillows and bed full of stains.
5.0
Great sized place for a couple and maybe the most private place on the island you can stay. It is so wonderful, facilities are a little used but all working and suit someone looking for comfort at a reasonable price. It's a very laid back island in general and nothing happens at a fast pace, this place helps you relax in to that after you arrive from a more urban area. You are surrounded mostly by friendly locals and are a stonesthrow from heaps of convenience stores and rental companies. As for the balcony, the view is out of this world, it really makes you feel lucky and while not necessarily a swimming beach next to you, I would say staying on this side of the island is the best possible thing you can do.
Thanks to Tearaia for allowing us to stay here after the place hadn't been open for long due to covid and for the warm hosting. We hope to stay again soon.

Tearaia and his family are so welcoming and really went above and beyond for us! great location, super close to everything, beautiful views, lovely room with just the right touch of creature comforts. Not a single bad thing to be said, we will be back and sending everyone we know!
nothing!

Friendly and welcoming hosts, met us at the airport and introduced island places, driving us around prior to arrival to Tavake villa. Much appreciated.
Next morning coffee and breakfast next door, fantastic. Host made extra effort to arrange lagoon cruise for us - trip with Ron was one of the highlights.
Weather, but something that you can not predict
4.5
Stayed in early March 2020, Tearaia was a fantastic host, he picked us up from the airport and dropped us off again, and had a car we rented for a day. Tearaia has a little cafe just in front of the villa, due to circumstances we only had one meal from there, but it was fantastic, so its a good option if you don't want to cook yourself. The villa is an easy walk to a grocery store too. The beach in front of the villa is very quiet, I actually don't remember seeing anyone walk by, and is west facing for the beautiful sunsets. If we visit Aitutaki again we would definitely stay here again.
Just one suggestion for improvement, the bed has one 4 inch thick foam for a mattress, we had to fold it double for comfort, therefore one of us had to sleep on the sofa bed, but this was a small inconvenience for a great stay. The cost and difficultly of obtaining items on Aitutaki has to be kept in mind.

Perfect place to stay on Aitutaki. Easy place to explore the island from. Great host, willing to help with everything. Would stay here again.
