Great house & location for our four-girlfriend trip. Superb location 5 minute drive to Main St. in wonderfully walkable Mirror Lake neighborhood. House has everything we needed, very clean and well maintained, very responsive owner. Several in our group had rented this house before and will sgain.
3.0 / 5.0
The house is well taken care of, but the driveway is really a challenge. We were told it would hold two or three cars, but the space is very small and the cars have to be packed in very tightly The driveway is on a steep hill so backing out is challenging.
It says on the info the house sleeps eight, but I can not see how that would work at all. There were 6 of us and we had to sit on stools around the kitchen island in order to eat together. There is a larger table outside on the large patio but the patio is not covered or screened in so if the weather isn’t good, you can’t use it.When everyone is sitting around the island in the kitchen, you can not move around the kitchen at all and it definitely wouldn’t seat 8 people. The patio downstairs is reached by going down a flight of steep stairs. We ate outside one night but carrying all the food from the kitchen down the stairs etc was a chore.
The house lacks a large area for a group of people to gather. The couch upstairs seats six if you squeeze in and the couch downstairs in the den is even smaller. You can pull in some extra chairs but they are not comfortable.
I booked the house for 10 days. We we ran out of dishwasher pods, coffee, paper towels, bath soap and the house had no pantry with supplies. If you book this house, you will need to bring a lot of your own supplies. The host said she only provides a starter pack of essentials.
The beds were comfortable but seemed small.

An excellent property with plenty of room and an awesome layout. We enjoyed sitting around the kitchen island having dinner. Having morning coffee on the lower deck as the sun came up was very relaxing.
I would recommend this property to anyone that wants a great place to stay that is also close to restaurants and shopping in Highlands.

This was the second year my 3 friends and I have rented this lovely home and we had a wonderful time. We mostly shopped and had delicious meals out. We now range in age from 80-85, so we feel so grateful to have been able, once again, to have this get away respite and fun time together because we don’t know what another year will present to ourselves. Caroline was a very gracious host and we knew that we could contact her should we have any questions.

I’m so grateful to have found a lovely property that doesn’t use scented laundry detergent, plug-ins, etc. I enjoyed the weekend without worrying about having a migraine triggered by fragrance. The home and location are fabulous! Thank you

Very well kept. Close to to town. Less than a mile from On The Verandah restaurant , which had great food , and, of course, not far to downtown Highlands the street light at the edge of the driveway and road was very handy late at night, because it gets dark in those mountains.

This is one of the nicer VRBO properties I’ve stayed in. The house is high-end with plenty of space for everybody. Multiple balconies are really nice.
I really appreciated some of the small details that make staying in rented houses much easier- some kitchen consumables available like coffee filters and olive oil, bathroom items like small soaps/shampoo etc.
I struggled getting into the unit bc I didn’t read the directions fully, but host was available immediately to tell me what I should have read before.
There are checkout instructions regarding laundry and trash placement that we followed as best as possible for our 3am departure (unable to locate bear bin in dark). There is also mandatory insurance in addition to a damage deposit which almost stopped me from booking- both seems excessive.
Overall this unit is exactly as advertised and I wouldn’t look elsewhere if I was visiting Highlands again.

Great location to town. Very clean, updated house. Master being downstairs was a bit of a drawback but main level bedroom was fine for our stay. Caroline was great to work with:). Thanks for being so accommodating!

My family all loved this house. It was very close to town, had beautiful views, and was well-equipped. The bedroom layout was great with 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs so we didn't feel on top of each other. It was a pleasure to communicate with Caroline. I would definitely stay there again!!

Caroline is the most gracious and engaged host. We hope to return soon!

This house was perfect for four friends who like to play bridge, dine at nice restaurants and shop. Close to town but not really walkable. Beautiful views of the mountains with a lovely deck for early morning coffee and afternoon cocktails.
Don’t let the photo fool you. This “ little cabin”is big with with four bedrooms and a modern downstairs addition. Very tastefully furnished.

We live in coastal SC where summers are brutal. Brief escapes to altitude are welcome. Our cottage in the Mirror Lake neighborhood, a mile from downtown, featured long views, comfortable bedrooms and showers, a large kitchen, and two porches to laze around. Our host was very friendly and responsive, answering every question and offering insider suggestions about what to do, where to eat and shop, in the area. Great place for your Highlands getaway!

We loved staying in “Caroline’s cabin in the woods”…it was perfect for 5 of us to celebrate 60th birthdays! The view out the kitchen window & deck was SO pretty, almost like being in a tree house. The kitchen had everything we needed and everyone was so comfortable with the 4 BR & 3 baths! Best part was the convenience to Highlands downtown, like 1.2M! The Bascom Art Center was so close too and we want to go back and take a class! Dinner at Paoletti’s & On the Veranda the next night were highlights + spa appts at Old Edwards Inn. Plan ahead for all…reservations necessary!
Check in & checkout were easy! A walk near Mirror Lake was so nice and people were very friendly. Hope to return again!
Caroline was beyond amazing. We originally were booked in March until the birthday gal got Covid. Caroline worked with us to reschedule to May and we were so relieved. Highly recommend!

We had a great stay for the weekend, plenty of room, terrific views and walkable to town via Oak Lane Trail. Owner very communicative and plenty of room for the 6 of us. Can’t wait to come back, so much more to do and see and sitting on the back porch was idyllic.

We enjoyed a quick weekend in Highlands. It was our first visit to the area. The house was well kept. Communication before arrival was excellent. And the house is only a short drive into town.

This property has beautiful mountain views across the back of the home and is only a few minutes drive from downtown Highlands. Caroline is truly a superb host, responsive and provides great recommendations. The house was clean and very comfortable (including the beds and furniture), with easy to use gas fireplaces and a kitchen will stocked with dishes. Our group of 7 cooked many meals, including Thanksgiving dinner, at the house. Having two separate living areas provided a nice option for our group to spread out when needed, while the open concept upstairs provided plenty of space to gather together. The porches and fire pit are also lovely sitting areas. The neighborhood is fun to walk around. It does include hills and no sidewalks, but any cars we passed were very cautious. We enjoyed being able to thing our dog! Highly Caroline’s property.

We go every year and This is the frist time we have ever rented a house. It was perfect for us as every one had a bedroom. Will probably rent this one next year. The view was great and loved both fireplaces. The owner was most attentive and answered our texts right away.

This home was the perfect choice for our visit to Highlands! We were in town for the wonderful Bel Canto Recital; the house is a about a 6 minute car ride to the Performing Art Center in the most desirable neighborhood. This charming home is immaculate and has every amenity for the most comfortable stay. Lots of outdoor space with gorgeous views as well. I highly recommend this property, whether you are coming for the outdoor hiking experience or the wonderful restaurants and shops this home is the perfect location. Caroline is wonderful, definitely a “Super Host”!

Wonderful mountain getaway
Caroline made the check-in process super easy and was quick to answer any questions we had about the house. Every room was very clean, beds were comfortable, the house had most of what we needed. Part of the checkout process is to have a load of towels washed and in the dryer before checking out. We couldn’t find any detergent in the house so that was a minor inconvenience…
We loved the views, especially from the kitchen window. I would love to return in the warmer weather so we could use all of the outdoor space! Thank you for sharing your home!

Wonderful home in great location!
We come to Highlands regularly and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. Great views, great spaces, comfy and cozy. Plenty of towels, kitchen is stocked nicely, convenient to downtown Highlands, you name it. Caroline was wonderful to work with and very responsive. It rained during most of our visit, however, there are two lovely outdoor spaces to enjoy when the weather is nice (with a great view). Great experience! Thank you for sharing your home with us.
