The breakfast was so good, freshly made just for us in the morning. We enjoyed sitting in the dining room, leisurely eating and drinking coffee in the morning sun while overlooking the gorgeous scenery. The hostess was so welcoming and helpful, making our stay feel like we were with friends who wanted to make our trip the best possible. The property is close to the National Park and other places to explore.

A fantastic location, lovely property with the most welcoming hosts. Thank you for a lovely stay, hopefully we can return one day.

The property is in a great location and was perfect stay for a family weekend skiing at Cape Smokey. Breakfast being included was a huge bonus since in winter the options are extremely limited. The owners provided excellent hospitality! Plenty of games, music and room for a nice pizza night after a day skiing. Perfect place to stay.

The location was great, 2 seconds from the beach lovely where we watched the sunrise. The owners were lovely, they made us a really good breakfast. The check in process was easy and the bumped us to a better room free of charge because they had the space. They recommended places to go for the rest of our travels which were amazing. All around very easy process and great place to stay.

The staff was fabulous. We were given a lot of ideas for the day we were spending in the area, one of which was a great hike in the area. After a great breakfast of eggs and bacon we were also given a wonderful idea of driving through Neil Harbour, another fantastic day.

Welcoming hosts. Lovely room with view of the sea. Outdoor verandah area. Coffee and tea available in the dining room. Delicious breakfast, hotplate, toat and preserves. Best light fluffy blueberry pancakes to date of my 2 months of travelling Canada. I would stay at The Island inn again.
There's road noise but very quiet after about. 8.30pm.

Excellent breakfast & tranquil location coupled with an excellent hostess & host.
With luggage, it was quite a challenge navigating the steep narrow stairs leading to our room located on the 3rd floor.

We spent 2 nights at the Island Inn during a trip around Cape Breton soon after the April-May 2021 lockdown ended. Our room was at the front and had a lovely view of the water with a comfy bed, a small desk (something we appreciated as we needed to check in with work), and a clean spacious bathroom. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They were always masked in our presence and were clearly following all current covid protocols. They also made sure we had a yummy breakfast and made sure to ask about any dietary restrictions (not something that applied to us but always a good sign in my book).
The location is great as a place to base day trips in Highlands National Park and while during our visit there were only a limited number of options for lunch and supper, more opened each day we were there.
One other note, there is an inn cat, but one who is passively curious about visitors but not overly affectionate. He's not allowed upstairs (there's a door blocking his way) and from what we could see mostly spends his time lounging outside or on a chair. He accepted a pat when offered but otherwise kept his distance
It's a great spot to stay with all the comforts we could want, good food, and great location, and nice people with a lot of local knowledge, but it's a simple family run B & B so lots of amenities it's not going to be for you.
