About this cottage rental

In the middle of a magnificent fjord landscape, located on “The Queens Route” from Ålesund to Geiranger, Urke is a perfect destination for an extraordinary and peaceful holiday. This region has, for more than a century, been an inspiration to tourists and artist. The site is extraordinarily beautiful with the majestic mountains circling the fjord, constantly changing in character with changes in light and weather. For the active there are mountains to climb, and an abundance of fish in the fjord.
Our holiday house, (buildt 2004), easily houses up to 9 persons. Its architecture is based on a traditional building method for wooden houses on the western coast, with a green, grassy sod roof. The house has two floors and a fine thatched terrace facing south west. It offers all the comforts of modern accommodation. A 15 feet boat with outboard engine is available and included in the rental. We rent out on weekly basis only in the main summer season June until August. Fixed day for changing guestes is from 2025 Friday.
Hiking through the valleys below snow covered peaks, with numerous rivers, waterfalls and small lakes is a wonderful holiday experience. The cottage is an excellent starting point for mountain hikes of all kinds and all degrees of difficulty. Nearby peaks well known among mountaineers are Slogen, Smørskredtindane and Jakta (all around 1600m). But also lower mountains like Saksa (990m) offer splendid views.
The renown high class and classic wooden hotel Hotel Union Øye, is situated only 5 km from the cottage. The hotel is more than 100 years old and is an attraction by itself. The nearby Norangsdalen is an extremely narrow valley with a row of small lakes. One of the lakes was formed as late as 1908, as rocks falling from the mountainside formed a dam. Remains of the flooded houses are still visible from the road.
The cottage is an excellent starting point for day trips by car in the district. You may visit places like Briksdalsbreen, Stryn Sommerskisenter, Geiranger fjord (Unesco heritage listed) and Trollstigen, as well as the bird sancturay at Runde or the art nouvau city of Ålesund .
If you have an interest in fishing, this is a perfect spot. There is an abundance of fish in the fjord. The fjord is well protected from all winds, by mountains on all sides. Opportunities for river fishing (salmons) in Bondalselva and Norangselva are also available. The freezer in the cottage will allow you to take care of your catch.

We loved the cabin with its stunning views, handy location, and excellent facilities. Urke and Noringfjord are absolutely beautiful, with mountains raising directly from the water. We had an absolutely brilliant time despite rainy weather - made good use of the boat for fishing, climbed to Saksa, and walked down to the village bar/restaurant, as well as exploring local sights, which are easy to reach by car. At the cabin, there is a lovely covered outside decking; plenty of space and beds; the kitchen has pretty much everything you could need, including all basics (including coffee, sugar, spices); and the washing/drying facilities were the best I've experienced. Rune and Emma were very helpful with fast responses. Truly recommend this cabin!

Schönes Ferienhaus mit allem was man braucht!
Schönes Ferienhaus mit allem was man braucht!

Amazing location and views
Amazing location and views
The pictures set some high expectations, but the location was even more amazing. There is a cabin behind this one, but no one is close on the front, so the views are wonderful and the area feels very private. The cabin itself is very spacious, with high ceilings upstairs and a lot of sleeping options. Great outdoor seating on the porch, and a charcoal grill. The town is super small, but only a short walk away and there’s a great local pub right on the water.

Even better than I had remembered!
Even better than I had remembered!
This was a second visit so we had high expectations, but this beautiful house in a peaceful and perfect environment exceeded even those. Urke is a fantastic spot and the hillwalking opportunities on its doorstep are boundless. I hope to be back some day...

Urke is a really beautiful place, in the midst of some of the best mountain and fjord scenery there is. It's a peaceful and secluded spot, off the main tourist trail, and so is ideal for enjoying the nature, the outdoors and the culture of the place, as well as to just relax. The house itself is ideal; spacious, well equipped and very comfortable, and with spectacular views too. What more could anyone want? Many thanks Rune for a great stay in this fantastic place!
