Calonge and it's surroundings: Calonge is within easy reach of Barcelona and Perpignan (France), half an hour from the beautiful city of Girona. An excellent starting point for visiting all the cultural and natural sites of Catalonia.
Along the coast, between Platja d´Aro and Sant Antoni de Calonge and Palamos, two tourist resorts which share the bay as well as their tourist character with the one mentioned first, there are Sa Cova, N´Artigues, El Comtat de Sant Jordi, Roque Planes, Torre Valentina and Treaumal, attractive places, all of which lie 1km from Calonge inland, a lovely village with a medieval layout crowding around the castle of the Dukes of Sessa, which was built in the XII Century.
Calonge has medieval old centre with narrow streets. It has many remarkable old buildings.
The old maritime part, Sant Antoni de Calonge, has developed considerably through tourism along the beach which continues as far as Palamos. There are plenty of restaurants and bars.

Overall happy! Very nice house and location. Great pool area for families. But some issues with the house. Most importantly the bathroom in the master bedroom had a smell of sewage coming from it. Kept the door closed and had the window in the bathroom open during the day to keep the smell in the room down. Worked to some degree and it did not affect us too much, but I think many guests would find this smell issue unpleasant. Broken shower head in one of the downstairs bathrooms. Expected bath towels to be included and when I read in the info sheet ‘linen included’ I did not read further down about no bath towels included. This information could be more prominent in the info sheet.

We had a lovely week at Mas Villa. On the whole the house was great - maybe a little dated as there was no Air Con - fans provided helped.
Although the beds were all singles ( not obvious from the photos) they were comfortable. Plenty of bedding was available
The kitchen was very well stocked with Crockey , cutlery and extra kitchen equipment.
I was disappointed to have to pay extra for bath towel hire - this only became obvious when the welcome pack was emailed a few days before. The photos showed towels o the beds so this was surprisingly- it would have been very helpful if pool towels were available too. There was a bag of pool toys in the pool room but in a state of disrepair . We bought a ball for the oool and left it for the next guests.
A few small tweaks would have let me give 5 stars.

Portail, fenêtres, portes et volets très difficiles à ouvrir et fermer.
Cafetière en panne, grille pain non fonctionnel, fer à repasser cassé, idem sèche linge et parasol. Absence de gant protecteur pour sortir les plats du four. Sièges terrasse abimés, absence de nappe pour la table extérieur (toutes les miettes tombent dans les rainures de la table, attirant les insectes). Eclairage extérieur non fonctionnel (tout est dans le noir)
C'est dommage, c'est une grande maison (5 chambres, 4 salles de bains) dans un quartier agréable mais qui nécessiterait des travaux et un entretien plus régulier.

Nice house and neighbourhood, shame about the fittings
Likes: fair sized pool, large garden, superb neighbourhood, good location for beach, shops and forest trails, spacious, adequate number of bathrooms, good cleanliness, pleasant outdoor dining area. Very helpful overseas owner who co-ordinated with the local property manager.
Dislikes: lack of air conditioning, malfunctioning locks to the main gates and main entrance (not addressed during our stay at the property) , unpleasant smell in the top floor bathrooms, slight state of neglect of the garden, lack of access to the balcony, lack of on site contact for sorting out technical problems, insufficient supply of towels, lack of cushions for the sunbeds.

Prima verblijf.
Het huis komt overeen met wat er in de advertentie wordt aangeboden. Op sommige terreinen misschien wat onderhoud. Een storende factor was de wat overheersende muffe geur in het huis. Wij hebben genoten van het huis, de ruimte , het zwembad en het mooie uitzicht.

Bewertung des Anwesens
Wir waren 6 Erwachsene und 3 Kinder. Bereits beim Eintreffen die erste negative Überraschung, der Hauseingang war mit Zweigen, kleinen Ästen und Dreck übersät.
Das Haus innen war eigentlich i.O. Räumlichkeiten und Küche entsprachen der Internetanzeige.
Der Außenbereich ist gut angelegt, ist aber sehr ungepflegt und teilweise nicht ganz ungefährlich.
Alle Wege im Garten waren teilweise überwuchert und stark verschmutzt.
Der Pool war gut und abgesehen von der verschmutzten Umrandung ein Lichtblick.
Die Plätze für die Sonnenliegen als auch die Liegen selbst waren sämtlich verschmutzt und nicht sehr einladend
Der Grillplatz war, wie eben alles andere auch, dreckig, die vorhandenen Grillutensilien stark verrostet und nur mit Widerwillen zu benutzen.
Die Außenbeleuchtung war nicht funktionsfähig und zum Teil nachhaltig zerstört.
In der nächsten Umgebung des Hauses wurden auf beiden Seiten neue Häuser gebaut. Der Baulärm war teilweise schmerzhaft und unerträglich. Ein Aufenthalt auf dem Anwesen während der Bautätigkeiten war schlich undenkbar.
Diese Baumaßnahmen bestehen schon längere Zeit, der Vermieter hätte darauf hinweisen und gegebenenfalls eine Alternative oder die Stornierung des Vertrags anbieten müssen. Mietern über mehrere Tage einen solchen Baulärm auszusetzen ist unzulässig.
Wir haben dem Vermieter eine ausführliche Dokumentation über unsere Beanstandungen zukommen lassen und sind auf seine Reaktion sehr gespannt.
Alleine dieser unerträgliche Baulärm erfüllt den Tatbestand einer gravierenden Beeinträchtigung der Urlaubsqualität.
Das Anwesen ist grundsätzlich schön, leider fehlt eine professionelle Pflege, dies gilt im besonderen Maße für den Außenbereich. Der angekündigte Service von Pool und Garten fand nicht statt, zumindest für uns nicht sichtbar. Der Verschmutzungsgrad der Gartenanlage hat sich während unseres Aufenthaltes absolut nicht geändert, die Außenbeleuchtung war nie in Funktion.
Das war alles sehr schade, denn viele Beanstandungen hätten vor unserer Anreise mit wenigen Mittel nachhaltig behoben werden können und müssen. So entsteht dann der Eindruck einer wirklich sehr lieblos gewarteten Anlage mit mehreren vermeidbaren Problemzonen.

Ein toller Aufenthalt mit der Familie. Ein Ort zum wohlfühlen.
Wir haben das Haus mit 9 Personen in Beschlag genommen und uns von Anfang bis Ende wohlgefühlt. Die Zimmeraufteilung hat gepasst, die Ausstattung der Räume war angemessen. In der Küche haben wir alles vorgefunden, was benötigt wurde. Der Pool war gepflegt und wir konnten ihn gut nutzen. Zum einkaufen und zum Strand sind wir mit dem Auto gefahren, alles kein Problem und kurze Wege.

maison très agréable et fonctionnelle, environnement calme, bel extérieur, plages accessibles mais en voiture, quelques détails pratiques à améliorer (pas de machine à café à notre arrivée, pas de torchons à vaisselle, odeur des canalisations, peu d'entretien extérieur pendant le séjour) même si les propriétaires ont géré à distance.

Great house, great beach, great pool!
We returned to the villa for the fifth time this summer and yet again, had a brlliant time. The house is really cool in the scorching Spanish sun, the pool and sn lounging area is perfect for relaxing, and the beach (10 mins walk) is absolutely fantastic - golden sand, with plenty of bars / restaurants close to hand. The kids love the massive expanse of sand and the shallow shore which is great for paddling.
For a more adult focussed night out, you can take a short taxi ride into Playa D'aro, which has lots of bars and restaurants and a very busy, but sophisticated, main strip. Recommend the Cactus Bar!
We also took a walk from the villa to Palamos - again lots to do there and a good way to stretch the legs.
The villa is the perfect base for a great holiday - highly recomended. There is a TV etc inside, but to be honest, we spent the whole time relaxing or exploring.

Had a very good time...
We spent at villa two weeks in this September (2009). It was my family (with two small children) and two of my friends. I have to say that it was the greatest holiday I had during last few years. Villa is equipped with everything one may need. It is only 5-10 minutes walking time to the (great) beach. Supermarket is on the way, so we were shopping on the way back from the sea to the villa.
Weather was great - there was only one rainy day. Water was hot enough both in the sea and the pool.
We barbequed almost every day. Food is good in Spain. One thing to know about shops is that lunch break is from 13:00 to 16:30! The good is that almost all shops are open in the evening.
Please note that villa is on the hill and one part of the road (about 50-70 meters) is going up quite heavy. If you are an old man walking this part of the road may not be very easy.
Funny thing is that taxi driver was not able to find the street even by using his advanced GPS. What was even funnier that people leaving on the neighbouring streets were not aware about name of the villa's street. Hopefully villa owner provided good driving directions so there was no problem. I suggest you print the map of Mas Vila (e.g. google maps) with the street/villa marked on it and have it with you.
We had one equipment accident at villa and I have to tell that owner reacted really promptly and his people fixed the problem quickly. By the way all these people were very nice.
I definitely recommend this villa to everyone. If we visit this area again in the future we are going to rent this villa again for sure. Enjoy!
P.S. Oh, yes... there is no Internet at villa. You'll need to use Internet cafés - I found three of them in some 10-minutes walking distance.

Nice family house
Our family (six adults and 5 children) had a wonderful time in this villa. It was big enough for all of use and had enough badrooms. The kitchen was well equiped en we enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace. We could even catch the evening sun on the second terrace. The environment has a great variety for everybody. Medieval town villages, shopping boulevards in Platja d'aro, lingering paths along the coast, plenty of restaurants, very good mountain bike tracks, the sea and the relaxed spanish people. A superb holiday location.

Our stay in Mas Vila, St Antoni de Calonga
We stayed in this property for a week from the 20th September. The villa is around 30 minutes drive from Girona Airport and is easy to find if you follow the directions provided. The location is set back from the town on a hillside and is very peaceful. We were a party of 7 adults, 5 of whome have learning disabilities. The access to the Villa from the road is quite steep but there are steps which make it easy enough. The Villa is spacious enough and provides all the equipment you need for a self catering holiday. The BBQ got plenty of use during our stay as we spent most of our evenings around the pool.
The villa is well placed for sight seeing trips and the roads in the area are excellent, I was pleasently surprised by the standard of driving and quietness of the roads. I used my Sat-nav and was able to get into and out of Barcelona, around 1 hour away, without any difficulty. The town of Calonga is fairly quiet with a long promenade, around 20 minutes drive away is the busier resort of Tossa de Mar.
There are plenty of shops nearby and you can walk to the closest one, Carre-for in about 5 minutes.
The highlight of our holiday was a visit to Girona town, about 30 minutes, which has a beautiful historic centre.
I would recommend this Villa as a base for those looking for a peaceful setting whch is close enough to all the main attractions of the Costa Brava.
